If it's a game in which he's playable, I will usually go with Mario. I even make myself play as him in SMB 2, even though he doesn't have much going for him.

I always used Yosuke, Yukiko, and Teddie in Persona 4. Your three party members have different elements (Wind, Fire, and Ice), so that leaves the Main Character needing only Electric, Light, and Dark skills. You also have two very effective healers, as well. The other characters didn't seem nearly as useful:

  • Chie begins to focus on physical attacks (which I rarely found useful) at higher levels, and her few Ice spells become less useful later on.
  • Kanji, despite being the Electric-using party member, focused more on physical attacks too, and his magic stats were poor.
  • Naoto, who uses Light/Dark/Almighty, suffered from having so many good spells, but only so many spell slots (the max is 8). There's also the problem of Almighty not being as effective as elemental attacks, and SP tends to run out quickly, even if you stick to only using Light and Dark.

Strangely enough, I quickly became that person in a 3 person co-op game of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. I was using Stills, who has the most offensive Knives summon. I quickly rose my willpower (raises mp and damage of summon attacks) and health to become an epic magic tank. About 5 of the exes I ended up the last one alive, and 2 or 3 of them I finished off by myself. The fight with the twins ended with a Triple Knockout, yet our team won...for some reason.
