The image is an entire comic book page and is illegible.

You know, pretty much any old picture of Frank Castle blowing someone's brains out should be fine.

The image is okay, it's just been resized. Any particular panels you like?

I like the second one. Frank pouring gasoline over someone is pretty evil... and swearing is an evil enough excuse for seeking that kind of retribution, I guess.

I think a two parter would be could. Somebody doing something evil in the first panel, then that person getting tortured or something in the second.

Can't argue with that.

Depending on how familiar people are with The Punisher though, I'm sure we can get away with just showing him "punishing" someone. I, for one, am very unfamiliar with much of The Punisher's history, but I know that when he's getting violent, the people he's getting violent with aren't exactly the friendly and nice type.

Yeah, that's way too graphic to use as a page image.

• sigh* This is the problem with image vigilantes. They don't like an image that since forever was considered fine, they don't like suggestions another image, they don't put something up they think is better. They'd much rather have nothing. We try and make the site fun and entertaining and informative, but sometimes it's a wonder why we bother.

I can understand the problem with the current image; it really doesn't look good shrunk down. Why we cant just crop one or two panels from it and use those, I don't know. I think it illustrates the trope fine, just not at the smaller size.

I put up the next full page panel, hopefully even the Frank Castle of image vigilantes will not have too many issues with it.

^I'm only taking it down so we can first establish a consensus. I have some doubts on this one.

Even using the Punisher as the page image, we still need to have a "bad guy being bad" pic alongside the "bad guy getting perforated" pic to demonstrate the trope. That being the case, I'm hesitant to go with the "burning the slaver" example because in the burning pic, you can't see enough of his face. Is there a shot of him doing his thing that we can work with?

I just gotta say that what seems to be the site's current attitude of 'if you don't like it then leave,' I don't think that's helpful. I think that's an arrogant attitude to have, I think it turns off a lot of people who contribute to the site. To say that this is how things are going to be regardless, rather than try and work out a solution to keep everybody happy, that's a real holier than thou approach that quite honestly does not work.

As for the image, no one likes the image ideas that are suggested. So let's not have one at all.

There's not going to be an image until a good one is proposed. So you get your request.

I might note that sneering at the process as a whole and dismissing the efforts of the folks in the thread rather than offering constructive solutions isn't exactly helpful.

We're not trying to be "Stop Having Fun" Guys, you just jumped the gun a little and posted the image before we had figured out what we wanted to do.

We just want to come up with the best picture that we possibly can.

It is not cool to come to a forum, disregard etiquette, and then accuse people of having a "Stop Having Fun" Guys attitude for calling your attention to proper etiquette. It is your responsibility to learn, not anyone else's responsibility to teach, or to conform to your vision.

Not knowing is fine. Not knowing and then getting pissy about getting corrected is not.

I'm not getting upset with having the image pulled, or criticism of the way I may have acted. It's how there's all these image vigilantes now, all these nattar Nazis now, and sure there are times where they are warrented. But last time I checked we weren't wikipedia. We're meant to be a buttload more informal. And my concern is that it will get to the point where people will start leaving.

To be absolutely clear on one point though, nobody here is a Nazi!

The entire purpose of having Image Pickin' Discussions is to do just that, discuss current page images and potential replacements. When the troping community is holding a discussion on new page images, we don't just slap a new image on a page without giving the community to chance to add their input first.

Thing is, lately there had been a huge crackdown on everything. There was nothing stopping people from changing an image before, but now it seems to be the in thing to wipe images or change things that no one seemed to have a problem with. And the attitude is if you don't like it then leave, go to Encyclopedia Dramatica. I don't want to leave here and go to Encyclopedia Dramatica. I want to be here. I just want here to be a little more relaxed the way it used to be.
