Yeah, the band who recorded One Week and If I Had A Million Dollars. Anybody own any albums, and if so which ones? I own gordon, maroon, and stunt. My fav songs are Grade 9, Some Fantastic, Falling for the First Time, Humour of the Situation, Helicopters, Alcohol, Too Little Too Late, Box Set, and Enid.

For those who don't know these guys, there from the east side of Toronto. They formed in 1988, and still record today and get hits on Canadian radio. They are a lot like a more modern Beatles, and Paul Mc Cartney even said that he enjoyed them best out of all the modern bands. He said in an interview: "they could out-sing anyday" and "their harmonies are right on." He even said he wouldn't mind recording with them.

If you don't like a single Frank Ocean song, you have no soul.

I hate to abruptly stall this thread, but my BNL (can I call them that?) story is pretty short. I suppose I may have heard "If I had $1000000" (yes, that's how you're supposed to write it) when I was around Kindergarten age, but other than that, it's all about "One Week". I heard it for the first time maybe a little over five years ago on the radio with my dad. Knowing his taste in music, I'm surprised he didn't just switch stations right away, but I got to hear the whole thing and it kind of amazed me. So I went home and downloaded it, but after a year or two, I got tired of hearing it and it became one of those things in my (rather limited) music selection that I always skipped.

I suppose now that I've had a few years apart from it, I don't mind it as much. I was perhaps partially re-inspired by this, an accordion cover by my friend Dan.

Other than that I essentially know nothing about the band, but I wouldn't be averse to learning more (i.e. listening to more songs). I suppose I'll take my typical course of action and go check out their Myspace at some point.

They actually have a good youtube chnnel: bnlmusic (the acronym is often used, considered the early controversy over their name). They have recordings of the two lead guys of the band singing their songs.

Yeah, I will say they have one of the most amusingly misleading names of any band, seeing as they are neither nude nor female!

And oh yeah, I forgot, I've also heard "Brian Wilson", and I think I kind of liked it.

I'm quite a fan, but got a bit bored of them recently. I never got the chance to see them live, but right after Steven Page left he performed at some folk festivals, so I got a chance to see him locally rather than having to travel to a larger city for the whole band.

"The Old Apartment," "Jane," and "Brian Wilson," and "Light Up My Room" are among my favorites, but I think the Are Me/n albums are my favorite overall.

Yeah, I will say they have one of the most amusingly misleading names of any band, seeing as they are neither nude nor female!

They actually did record some songs nude just for kicks, but I think the name originally was just a Good Name For A Rock Band.

^Never heard anything by them, but I heard that they picked that name specifically for one of their very first live shows. They were playing in a bar with another band, so they wanted names that would attract a crowd. The other band in question named themselves Free Beer.

So the signs advertising the show all read: "Tonight: Free Beer and Barenaked Ladies!"

Don't know if it's true, but it's funny.

They're awesome. Currently I only have their greatest hits CD, but I love it. Interestingly enough, my dad's a big fan too (and we hardly ever agree on modern music, though we do have the same tastes in classic rock and blues), and a couple months ago we sang "If I Had $1000000" together at a local karaoke bar (the audience seemed to like it, even though most of them appeared not to know it).

No breasts/scrotum on that last post. Shit just got real. -Bobby G

[up][up] That seems like something they would do lol.

[up][up][up] Where do you live where he did folk festivals? That is cool, I'm 5 so they formed the band before I was born. (They are modren but not new).

[up] Buy Gordon first. It's a good intro to their stuff.
