I hate the word "graphics" because it implies the only aspiration for a game's art designers is realism.

Isn't the minimum acceptable level that the games look good?

I prefer the term "visuals". "Graphics" just come off as amateurish to me.

Art direction is more important than fancy graphical trickery.

Good visual design can add a lot to a game though. An example I like is Mirror's Edge, the Realism level was very good, but what I loved was the austere whiteness of everything giving the impression of an over cleaned dystopia.

Cell shading can work beautifully in some games, awful in others.

Graphics do help though, it's not the be all end all, but it can make it feel more immersive and real. Obviously some things require different levels of realism or even just detail. I want a realistic FPS, I don't care much in a Mario game. With those games it's more about style and making things clear.

Like COD MW on Wii looks like crap in parts because the graphics were poorly ported and it detracts from the gameplay.

^ Blame the developers/artists, not the hardware. It's not as if the HD consoles automagically make bad art attractive, either.

Conduit and Metroid look just fine. Porting a game meant for a more powerful system to a weaker one is the problem. It didn't work with Resident Evil 4(Gamecube and PS 2 Power difference is less than Wii to PS 3), why does anyone think it'll work now(Oh right, MONEY!)

What's all this about realism. You all your responses to my bashing of Resident Evil was about why realism isn't important in games(even a game that claims to be realistic). You know a realistic game wouldn't be fun to play.(Itching, sneezing, strained muslces, healing taking days weeks and months with rehab, sleeping, using the bathroom, famine, changing weather ALL the time unpredictably, using the bathroom)

Why the sudden flip flop? Huh Tropers?

I've read many posts on this site about why graphics only make the game look better, not play better. Who cares about the move anyway. Devil May Cry is what all the cool kids play.

About the graphic discussion above, I think games reached the minimum treshold of taste in the SNES / Genesis generation for 2D games, while 3D games became as pretty as they needed to be in the Game Cube / PS 2 / X Box generation. Any improvement in graphics after that just gets diminishing marginal returns.
Because of course standards are a definite list and not based on current averages, and everyone instantly rejected the Atari 2600.

I wonder how long it will be before we find the current day generation of video games to look like unplayable shit.

Considering that many of them use cartoony, stylized graphics, I doubt that will ever happen. Those that rely on "realistic" graphics might suffer, though.

Though considering that people still praise Final Fantasy VII despite its early-PSX graphics aging more poorly than the graphics on pretty much every other platform, the answer might still be never.

Okay, so according to you, both graphics and gameplay are irrelevant (since the Move is way more accurate and thus beaqts the Wii in that regard as well)

You keep claiming that, what is the basis for that claim?

Apparently the ball on the end of the Move allows it (through the use of the PSEye) to sense motion towards and away from the monitor better than the Wii does.

That's hardly saying much, since the Wii Remote is already accurate enough to play Starcraft.

Based on my understanding of the tech involved, I think that if Sony is lucky they'll be able to pretty much match the features and accuracy of the current Wii Remote/Motion+ setup  *

. The problem still becomes convincing people why they should buy a PS 3+Move when the Wii is already available for less (especially now that Nintendo is rolling out the Wii + Wii Sports Resort + Motion+ for $199 bundle). And touting HD graphics and Blu-Ray aren't likely to sway customers, since they already weren't swayed for the last three years.

I understand that a number of PS 3 fanboys are pinning their hopes on Move as the Great White Black Hope against the Unholy Wii Abomination, but from the perspective of the mass market, I'm predicting that this will be as successful as the PS Eye was (read: not a whole lot).

I don't see why you would want to play Starcraft on a console anyways, motion controls or no. Even HD console RTSes have to zoom in the screen about as much as PC RTSes did back in the DOS days, because your field of vision when looking at a TV monitor is smaller than that of looking at a computer, because while a computer screen is smaller, you are significantly closer to it.

The Wii is not as accurate as that, no. Motionplus is an improvement, but still isn't completely 1 to 1. It is also still under lag, which the Move has lowered to a single frame.

I'm not saying it will be successful, and I doubt anyone can claim its certain to be. But it is well established that it is better than the Wii.

Motion+ lags? Seriously? No, it doesn't, not one bit. I question whether you've actually played Wii Sports Resort. M+ is very reliable indeed, with re-calibration being a minor issue at worst.

"Well-established" is bullcrap. Let's be frank, when it comes to gaming, historically, motion detection with cameras has been been pretty damn unreliable, with little exception. I don't see this being much of an exception either, from what I've seen. I don't see the Move doing very well. Sony haven't exactly thrown out brilliant business decisions as of late, I imagine they're losing a shiton of money on the PSP Go.

Just a note: One frame of lag is 1/60th of a second. Your brain is the one causing the lag at that point.
