Greetings. This is the thread for requesting assistance with recovering a TV Tropes account for which you have forgotten the password.
Before posting here, please note that Get Known has a comprehensive set of instructions for managing your account. To summarize, password resets are limited as follows:
- If you have an associated email address, use the Lost Password link on the login screen to request a reset email. If that doesn't work, post here.
- If you do not have an associated email address but you are still logged in, you can register an email address and use it for recovering your password.
- If you do not have an associated email address, and have not used your previous account since September 18, 2013, we cannot verify your ownership for technical reasons.
- To verify ownership without an email address, and if you have used your previous account recently, you should be logged in on the same computer and/or Internet connection that you most recently edited or posted from.
- It is not currently possible for moderators to reset your password or change your registered email address. As a last resort, you may use our contact form
to send a message to "The Staff".

I was cleaning my cookies out last week, then realized too late that I had cleaned out this site's cookie as well. I haven't had to log in for a while, so forgot my password. My troper handle is Eagle Fan. Can I have the password reset, please?

I was supposed to be just The Martian Geek (incidentally, why does it automatically add spaces to both usernames?), but after repeated failed attempts to get it with what should have been my password, I just gave up and made a new account. Should I just continue with this one, or can I have the old one reset?

I was just wondering, how can you create a new Handle? I lost my password once and attempted to create a new account in order to request a reset, but it didn't let me and said something like "my ip address already has an account, and to email the staff if you think this is an error."
I managed to work it out again, but for future reference, am I missing something or is this odd?

That's normal. We have a system in place to prevent people from spamming the wiki with sockpuppets.
