This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

~Cieloazul, OK. While you have had two previous suspensions, this is your first one for an edit war. I absolutely do not want to see this again, and here are the conditions I'd be comfortable with:

  • You have to participate in this thread and actively contribute to the clean-up of the SW pages inundated with complaining and negativity. I'm not saying you have to change your mind on every example, but you have to participate in the conversation and discuss. If the majority is against your take, then you should accept it, even if it means a full removal. This conversation is what we wanted to happen in the first place, before edit wars occurred.
  • You need to clean up your troper page. If a random troper can come across it, and reasonably think that it is suicidal ideation, then we do not want to risk that happening again. Whether that means removing all the questionable dramatics or cutting outright, is up to you.

Agreed?

~corindhero, if you're not interested in participating in TLP, then OK. We won't release your suspension on that until we have sufficient appeal.

Regardless of that, though, your posts here make me question your ability to write with sufficient English grammar, which makes me reluctant to release any editing suspension. Tell you what - rewrite your last post with correct grammar. We'll go from there.

In addition, it seems like you were at one point cutting examples without any edit reason, which is against good practices. You have to provide a reason for your deletions, or else it looks like an agenda.

You were suspended for rogue-launching Back to the Early Installment, despite a PM notifying you to not do such things.

~Nombretomado, absolutely. You can count on me.

In order not to get any of this wrong, may I ask about a couple points?

  • The mentioned thread has the goal to remove negativity in tropes like WAI, narm, etc. Having that in consideration, I believe there is a reasonable amount of subjectivity about what counts as complaining and what counts as valid criticism in the listed tropes. You just said I'm not forced to change my opinion as long as I play the debate's rules, which is perfectly okay for me given that I have never been called an uncivil speaker. I promise I will give out reasonable arguments and will accept any outcome with sportsmanship. However, I fear that my opinion (in this case, that many if not most of those SW criticisms could be essentially valid) might clash directly with the thread's cleanup goals. What I'm trying to say is that I would not want to be considered a saboteur, or an obstacle to the thread's effort, only because my beliefs might not line up with the official task regardless of how civil I'm about them.

  • I assume this goes without saying, but although I promise to contribute to the thread as often as I can, I will have working hours in real life (currently studying for civil servant exams) and I won't be able to stay 24/7 tuned in, just like I was not the site's absolute most active user before being suspended. I also seem to operate from a time zone different from most users' (I'm European, and I'm under the impression that most tropers here live in the American continent) so I might be late to the discussion on occasions. I state all of this not as an excuse, but as a plea not to be automatically considered a slacker if I happen to be not the most active threader.

~Jonesangelo369, we have to believe that you won't make the same mistake again. Admitting you didn't bother to do any research or even general looking around to understand how to participate - that doesn't look good. Plus, your grammar in your posts here is bad. We do want people to write at a sufficient level of English when contributing, or else you are only creating more work for others.

~Cieloazul:

  • There is some subjectivity, but here are my goals for asking you to participate;
    • Primarily, it's so you can retroactively do what you should have done before - discuss.
    • Secondly, I think it would benefit you to get a better sense of what crosses the line into complaining. YMMV is YMMV, but that doesn't mean everything goes just because it's marked as subjective.

I think it would help you to think about clean-up in more nuanced terms - it's not just removing what is explicitly unacceptable, it's also about identifying and clarifying what may be borderline. Yes, there's going to be cases where something is soundly agreed for a cut - but there will be others where the write-up can be salvaged, or argued, or further clarified before the thread reaches a consensus. It wouldn't be in your, or the thread's, best interest to go in and baldly say "this is Narm" and wait for others to go "No, it isn't". Rather, what I would like to see is, as appropriate, posting "I made/saw this edit, here are the reasons why I think it qualifies, what are some other opinions?" As long as you are civil and make it clear that you don't want to impede the overall thread goal, then you should be fine.

To your other question, there is no baseline "you have to post [x] amount of times" in the thread. I just want to see you in there, making a good-faith effort to participate and hopefully accomplish those two goals up above. If you make three posts and constructively participate, then that's fine with me. If you make ten posts and constructively participate, that's also fine. As long as you are making good-faith to discuss.

(Your other two suspensions were about failures to index pages.)

~Nombretomado, I understand. Well, tomorrow (in my time zone) I will get start if you have given me green light by then.

(I edited my last question out because I suddenly remembered both were for the same reason. Still, thank you.)

Hello. By december 2018 I was suspended for lousy spelling. Admittedly I do mistakes on some levels, partly because I am not English. But, as I pointed out to my "jailor": How can I possibly correct anything of the sort if I am banned from editing? As far as I can see, none of you have corrected the small ortographical mistakes I have made (or even grammatical ones) during my year-long absence. So, if nothing else is wrong - can I get this sorted out?

~Eilevgmyhren: We have a specific thread for users who've either identified that they have an issue with written English or who have been referred there by us. Post the edits you'd like to make there, and they'll be checked and amended if needed.

~Guiletheme, you were issued a wiki suspension for persistent problems with Example Indentation. This is despite being sent some notifiers and PM's on the matter.

~TheMrAMP, while I understand there may have been some IP issues (I will ping ~Willbyr or ~Berrenta to speak on that matter), the reason on file I see is problems with Zero Context Examples and excessive Entry Pimping. I say "excessive" because pimping in itself isn't bad, but doing it to shoehorn in examples or links inappropriately very much is. Thoughts?

ETA: Willbyr has let me know that you've already discussed the IP stuff, so that can be X'ed off as addressed.

For the Zero Context Example or ZCE, I do apologize for that as I was new here and received some general advice from one of the people that use to update the site. He said put a brief description on it. Some fans I know via the Discord wrote them up and I copy and pasted. Another user on the site I talked to on Discord showed me ZCE article last week. I realized that the tropes employed weren't up to bar with what the standards were and got to work on fixing them. Unfortunately, before I could go back and fix it, I was temporarily suspended. I should note that each new description is between 280 to 560 characters with a link to a specific page on each one. Is that sufficient or is that too long?

As for entry pimping, like I said, the fans wrote them up and I copied and pasted them into the various tropes. At first, it was about 20 entries at a time. Then it was 10 entries. If finally dropped down to 5 entries. Because of tax season starting, I was planning on just simply doing 5 every Saturday while at work.

I should note that I read through them and made certain that it fit the trope itself. I've read the series and am quite familiar with it. After all, the series should fit the trope. To my knowledge, none of the tropes seemed to fit the series accurately. Again, this could be the fact that the trope wasn't written well by the fans per say. I do have fixes for them. Would posting one here as an example only, be sufficient?

I was going to give you a chance to at least make an appeal, as dim as the prospects were, but seeing as your last gasp was to veer into antisemitism after a telling posting streak about the world being anti-white - to the point of saying white people were on the back of the bus - it's clear your inclinations aren't something we are interested in entertaining. Your time on TVT has been conclusively closed.
