The site runs on Pacific Time, so my guess was California.

It moves. It is on Pacific time for historical reasons and none of the founders were living in similar timezones when we started up and just picked CA time out of a hat, figuratively.

The servers we are on today are in Texas. We may soon be able to move to an 'edge' system, which means the answer to "Where is it based?" could literally be "The Internet."

↑... but for legal purposes the site would still be considered to be "US-based" with that system, isn't it?

EDIT: coo, so when we move to The Internets we can ditch local times and move to Swatch time as well... wild mass guess

I don't know. Foundation papers are being drafted to assure that the wiki will not go away if Janitor or I fall in front of a bus or something.

Janitor is on that and she lives in Bern, Switzerland. I mostly live in the Bahamas. Nothing very 'US based' based about that. The foundation will most likely turn out to be Swiss.

But I don't really know.

Uh, OK. I wondered about that because in some discussions it comes by tat "we can't link to X or Y (usually One Manga) because of US law".

I think One Manga no longer does anything objectionable. We don't like links to things like porn or torrents because there are no shortage of other ways to get to those sites and it hurts our availability at schools and other web-nannied sites. Not fairly, I'd say, but it isn't a battle it is important for us to wage.
