Trope in question: Three Amigos Not in question, but linked to due to stuff: Two Guys and a Girl Power Trio

Now, when I clicked on Three Amigos, I figured it would be a simple Cast herd trope about a trio of friends. Something without the specific roles applied with Power Trio, and without the gender lines of Two Guys and a Girl. While certainly the make-up can be similar to the above tropes, it isn't required. Pretty much making Power Trio and Two Guys and a Girl subtropes of Three Amigos.

Of course, when I looked at it, it seemed to be a bad splice of the above tropes. With some strange desire that any Three Amigos set-up must be main characters, with one hero among the trio, and one must be female. Meaning it's a waste of a page unless it's retooled so it isn't a straight rip-off of Two Guys and a Girl.

My suggestion is we make it less specific on those fronts, with the primary rule being that the three are equal in the friendship. While one might be the voice of the group, the other two aren't subservient to them (like Those Two Evil Guys would be to The Big Bad). And the usual attached dilemma is one of the three abandoning the others for a romantic relationship, that they all three desire something (or someone) but only one can win, or one of them wins two tickets to that thing you like.

But above all, the talk about gender really has to go. Otherwise there is no difference between it and Two Guys and a Girl.

Yeah, since the Trope Namer is three men, not Two Guys and a Girl, this seems shoehorned and redundant.

Edit: Seriously? We don't have The Three Amigos?

It may be time to rename the trope and restore the film to the Main namespace (at least with a redirect) if we're running into this problem again.

Renaming it so Three Amigos can have its Main namespace again seems like a good idea too. The name is good, just not that good.

The main issue, however, is fixing the trope so it isn't so specific that it loses the initial idea of it.

I remember we had a good thread on this earlier that detailed better what the differences were, and there were some good ideas about how to fix. Let me see if I can find it.

EDIT:

Found it

It even has a crowner with a solid vote for changing and rewriting.

Looks like people just forgot about it and never made the change.

Make this a Super Trope of all trio tropes, but leave the name.

Based on that crowner the rewrite is definitely in the works, a rename wasn't as clear cut. However given it is named after a work, renaming it probably should be the next step after figuring out a new page text...

anyone have any suggestions for a new page text?
