So i got my hands on ALBTW, and i just beat heras tower.

Its ok so far, i feel like the painting sidling is one of the better gimmicks the series has had for a while. I also rather enjoy the controls and sound effects, nornally i dont pay those much attention but they make all your actions quite satisfying.

I have completed all dungeons in Hero Mode except Ice Ruins and Lorule Castle. I'm a bit bittersweet that the ordeal is almost over (I'm also aiming for 100% Completion; right now I have 18 hearts and I'm only 1 Container and 3 Pieces short of having 20, 91 Maimais and all regular items upgraded, and the only sidequest I have pending is the Treacherous Tower, as I haven't gone through Lorule Death Mountain yet). It's a really good game while it lasts.

After ALBW, the only game I'll be playing for a long while is Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. There's no way in hell I'm going to get BOTW in the inferior Wii U version.

So i've made some decent progress into ALBW, just finished my first lorule dungeon.

Ravio's shop is a really interesting idea that i feel has potential but i feel like the downsides of a flawed execution are kinda present here as well.

I'm not sure that this is entirely related to the item shop mechanic but all the dungeons thus far have been pretty short and easy. The painting sidling makes you think of space in a different way and has presented some cool moments, but it seems like since they know you wont be guaranteed to have xyz combination of items for a lot of the dungeons, the puzzles can only be so involved.

Also yuga has been an utterly pathetic boss in terms of difficulty. Both times i was done wirh him in under a minute or close to that.

[up]It's not like dungeons were built around combinations of items since about WW. And I don't get why people say ALBW lacks a difficulty curve when TP and SS also lack a difficulty curve despite their linearity.

It's good that they're improving each pressing issue one at a time.

[up][up] well you two hit the nail on the head for the problem i had with the game. i knew i wasn't the only one who found the dungeons lacking. all that rental system did was make me go 'does this work? no. does this work? no.' in every dungeon, and i rarely do that in other zelda games. the overworld however was the most fun i've had n a zelda overworld in a long while. it was like one big dungeon and the painting mechanincs saved a few of te dungeons for me. alas, i dont have it anymore. traded it and other games in for that majoras mask nendoroid at gamestop.

speaking of which i have that now.

playing this game has made me come to really appreciate the compositions from alttp, mostly because so much of the game's music is remixes from that game. Definitely one the strongest soundtracks in the series.

I also now just realized that a big part of why the dungeons feel so short is that you dont really have to solve puzzles or fight minibosses for the dungeon item anymore since you already have the item.

I think nintendo prolly accounted the player buying a bunch of the items bc i noticed rupees were REALLY plentiful. I rarely have to go out of my way to farm them or anything since by just doing a dungeon or exploring i get the money to buy an item and more.

What do you guys think would be a less...weird name for Linkle? imo i thk they should have done a pun on Link's name for naming her, a name that shows how disconnected she is from the plot the opposite of how our boy in green is 'linked' to the plot.

I would've been fine if it had just been written as Linkelle.

It's good that Linkle's name is weird, though. It highlights her similarity to Tingle since she isn't a female Link, just some weird girl who thinks she is.

That's a fair point.

Also, not sure if this has been touched upon yet, but it's confirmed that Link can wear a green tunic in BOTW.

So, in anticipation of BOTW's release, I've decided to play and attempt to 100% all five 3D previous Zeldas. I'm starting of course with Ocarina of Time. I'll do a full writeup at the end, but I'll provide some ongoing thoughts and observations.

-I'd forgotten just how perfect a tutorial the Kokiri Forest and Great Deku Tree segment is. Basically all you need to know about the basics of a 3D Zelda are right there. The only mark against it is that I find the part where you have to break the spider web by jumping down from the top floor a little cryptic.
-The Castle Town arc and the sidequests surrounding it are honestly kind of boring and frustrating before getting the Sun's Song, but it's such a small part of the game that it doesn't really matter too much.
-They had to start somewhere but Hyrule Field is just so dull in my opinion.
-The Goron arc is a ton of fun though and I think that this and Dodongo's Cavern, a pretty solid dungeon, is what got me hooked in the first place. Going out of the way to actually fulfill the sidequests makes it even more fun, especially how unlocking the Lost Woods and the Goron Bracelet allow you to get like an entire Heart Container's worth of Heart Pieces in a really short span of time and it's great.
-On that note, finding the Heart Pieces and Gold Skulltulas are just great sidequests in general. Mask sidequest is OK but the reward is pretty underwhelming. The other sidequests in the Young Link side of the game might as well not exist, because they basically don't. Adult Link is better about this but Majora's Mask or Wind Waker this ain't.

It's amazing how leaving out a single "3D" botches everything
