I posit that Zelda puzzles aren't about thinking hard so much as they are about paying attention to detail. There are exceptions to the rule, of course, but they tend to be among the most frustrating (the ice block puzzles in A Link to the Past and Twilight Princess come to mind).
Not that the regular kind can't be frustrating too, as every water dungeon ever demonstrates.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?Yeah. Puzzles in Zelda tend to be more about noticing details and quickly forming a plan of action. This helps create a sense of flow in the dungeons as you rarely stop moving in any given room. Pretty much the only time you stop for a good period of time is if you've missed a detail in the area.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! The Switch Hook in OOA was a nifty alternative to the Hookshot, as was the Seed Shooter to the Bow. I'm not sure how well the Shooter's ricochet-based puzzles would work in a 3D environment, but I'd love to see a return of both that and the Roc's Feather/Cape.
Remember how the final item you get in the final dungeon of OOS was a dang Slingshot, of all things? Good times.
they/them || "Forgive me, regent of queer amphibians" - Lt.BGobI'm a page or so late, but I think Wind Waker and Twilight Princess's weight puzzles requiring you to control statues and move them onto spots is more ingenious than just creating them there.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Sorry for the tangent, but I wonder what'll happen if you throw the Master Sword in Bot W. It's been stated that other weapons get destroyed when they hit an enemy while thrown, so I wonder if you can make the Sword of Plot Advancement Lost Forever, or if it's invulnerable like that? Or the Throw button might generate a Sword Beam if you have the Master Sword equipped?

I'm guessing it'll be unbreakable, but if you lose it it will return to it's pedestal.
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobThere's definite fun to be had in noticing details (I have fond memories of the I Spy books and computer games), but it still would be nice if the targets weren't so obvious and the tools used on them weren't specialized to them.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page. You know, something odd I've noticed is that, of all types of block puzzles we've seen in the series, the Sokoban style was almost never seen. In fact, among the games I've played, Spirit Tracks was the only one to do it (and only once, namely in floor 18 of the Tower of Spirits).
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300That's the disappearing-in-sequence type, right?
The worst thing in every Mega Man game?
I sure said that! Not exactly. Sokoban is a popular Japanese game in which you are in a room that contains several blocks and switches. Normally, in a Zelda game you'd have to move a block onto a switch to open a door, but in floor 18 of Tower of Spirits you have six switches that have to be held pressed at the same time, so you have to move the blocks present into them. It sounds easy, but the layout of the room and the placement of the switches make it so you have to know how to displace each block to avoid getting stuck. Think of that room in Stone Tower Temple where you have to press the switches with the statues of the Elegy of Emptiness, only here you don't press them with any song.
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300I'm not so sure Sokoban would work well in anything but a fixed top-down perspective. The constantly-rotating camera and its behind-the-back perspective of the 3D games wouldn't lend themselves well to that kind of block puzzle.

I sure said that! You know what would be a great HD remake for the Switch? Skyward Sword. They wouldn't have to change the controls too much thanks to the Joy-cons
I hope there's another one. I'm getting a bit tired of these games taking five to six years. If they could get it down to three or four that would be ideal. Then there could be another Switch exclusive game and after that they could work on a launch game for the Switch's successor.
edit: I literally realized right after typing this that we won't have handheld Zeldas to tide us over either. Hopefully that means they'll merge the console and handheld teams so they can make these things faster.

Maybe they could have two different Zelda playstyles, the same way they seem to now have Linear and Open World Super Mario. Once could be 3D and another could be top-down
I'd be down for that. I've been thinking for a while that it wouldn't be a bad thing to have smaller download only games. Something like a GBA style Oracle of Secrets or an online capable Four Swords would be great.
"Switch may get another Zelda game later in its life."
Correction: Switch may gets its first true Zelda game. What we're getting is an overdelayed Wii U game, just like the case of Twilight Princess for the Wii (whose real Zelda game was Skyward Sword). As amazing as Breath of the Wild looks, it looks very dated by virtue of having been designed originally for a dead system.

Trans rights are human rights....That is a very strange definitely of "true Zelda game".
I fail to see why any of that was merited anyway.
Oh God! Natural light!I just didn't like that Aonuma insinuated that BOTW is the "first" Zelda game on Switch. It isn't, like TP wasn't the first Zelda game on Wii. BOTW was intended for the Wii U, and it's very evident. What worries me is that he's not giving guarantee that Switch will indeed have a Zelda game that truly makes use of Switch's hardware, which means we might have to wait another 5-6 years for the next game (if there is one).
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Dude. It is the first Zelda game on the Switch. Whether or not it's on any other consoles is irrelevant to that fact.
Well, good thing it's going to take so long. Considering that the Zelda series might take the direction of BOTW for the forseeable future, they need that time to handcraft the overworld and populate it too.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page. It's a Zelda game, and it's on the Switch. I get what you mean about wanting a game that takes full advantage of the hardware, but stow the pointless quibbling.

Trans rights are human rights.
Probably. But it's the reason why off the top of my head I can't remember Zelda puzzles: because they've never required me to think as hard as the edutainment games did.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.
