Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

Oh awesome they had Palom and Porom there as well as Edgar and Sabin. FF fan artists are always cool about that.

Life is more fun with infinite MP.Looks like its Alph's turn to get the new class of an expansion as the scions level up
Thancred and Ali got Gunbreaker and Red Mage last time
...
Well this is interesting, Wo L didn't get a new job reveal this time being a Paladin though being a Paladin makes sense with the Fucking Star Destroyer to the Moon
I thought Wo L had evolved in the Strike Freedom for a moment
So Sages get Funnels... 'Has funny mental image of Aerith turning the tide on Sephiroth

PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyAs I mentioned in the XIV thread, this is really the push I needed to resuscribe. I’m still on the start of Heavensward so I’ve got a lot of work to do
I actually just finished the base content of ARR now.
I enjoyed it enough but boy was it rough around the edges. And I still have a bunch of quests left to get to heavensward ):
Out of curiosity, what server/world do you run?

Speaking of FFIV, anyone else just adore the "Giant of Babil vs. literally everyone" sequence? It's like Avengers Endgame thirty years before Avengers Endgame.
I spent over 200 hours getting all of IV's Steam achievements - why does this game have so many hyper rare drops goddamn. 3D TAY's gonna be a long while away now.
Back to suffering through Hell House on hard mode I guess.
I've only played the GBA port of IV, but I always felt that all the random sci-fi stuff in it felt really out of place since I think none of it is actually explained in game unless you count the opening crawl mentioning the advancement of technology, and even then it's just talking about airships, not giant robots and ancient mechanical space vessels.
I’m playing through FFVII for the first time, and I may have encountered a Game-Breaking Bug.
Basically, I approached the Temple of the Ancients, I did brought Aeris/Aerith and Cid to the Temple, the prayer happened, I went up the stairs, talked to the Keystone Guy, and then went inside the Temple, but Tseng isn’t showing up, so what do I do?

SKREEEEEEEONK!I think I saw it on FF Wiki years ago, but their entry for the Giant of Babil called it a wish granting robot. Apparently it deliveries wishes in the form of explosive murder bombs of fire death.
I like the idea that each overworld crystal terraforms a section of the world with a specific elemental factor to see people's adaptation. Not surprising how the land corresponds to each crystal placement: fire has the surrounding area hot and a desert, wind has a large empty plain like trees were blown and cleared, water is a peninsula and earth is covered by forests. I'd like to think the dark crystals are their counterparts and keep the overwkrld crystals in check, like a grounding wire or surge protector. So if they are separated, the elemental crystals continue terraforming the land with no control and destroy it, like Damcyan becomes hotter and the desert grows, Mysidia floods, D Fabul ravaged by tornadoes and Troia overrun by vegetation.
-Witty line-The sci-fi stuff in FF4 isn't that mysterious. It was presumably all made by the Lunarians. The Giant of Babil is explained to have been made by Zemus and other radicals to attack Earth, but was sealed away on the moon. How the Tower of Babil got built isn't explained, but it's used as a sort of dimensional elevator, using the crystals' energy to warp the Giant from the moon to Earth. All the robot enemies you encounter in the game are in the Tower of Babil, in the Giant of Babil, or on the moon. The Lunar Whale was made by Cecil's dad to travel between the moon and Earth.
The only really weird thing is the Tower of Zot. In the 2D versions of the game it has the same look as the Tower of Babil, but it's never explained what it is or even where it is (you enter and exit it via airship completely off-screen). The 3D remake changes it to look like ancient stone ruins, but that still doesn't answer the other questions.
That's weird, FF1 did the same thing. In the original versions, the Sky Palace was very sci-fi and mechanical, but starting with the PS1 version, they just changed it to look like regular ruins. In hindsight, it probably makes Warmech's presence all the more confusing.

I'd like to think the Tower of Babil was the Lunarians setting up shop on the planet but stopped at making that structure when they found the inhabitants of the planet incompatible with them, so they slept and waited for the people to catch up.
Maybe Zot was their temporary base to view the planet to find a spot to create the tower.
-Witty line-That change to the Flying Fortress was particularly silly. It's clear that originally the dungeon is supposed to be a kind of space station left by a very technologically advanced race. The dungeon is grey and metallic, and the background is black with dot stars. I don't know why they changed it to a traditional-looking castle floating within the cloudy blue sky in the remakes. It just makes it more generic, and there's still robots running around in it. The change seem very deliberate too, since there's dialogue in the NES version about how the ancient Lufenians built a castle in space among the stars, while the remakes change it to them having built a castle high in the sky among the clouds.
wait a buttload of ff4 references
A sudden focus on the twins
oh no
oh nooooooooo
They turn to stone but then their father drags his ass from Sharlayan to unstone them.
there’s that, but you also have to consider that the whole COVID situation most likely pushed things back, though admittedly SE adapted quite well to the situation apparently.
