Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

I know XIII is way harder but it's still the same battle system as XIII-2. Both games get you into the mentality of going as fast as possible. Defense is a waste of time and clearly only supposed to be done for the brief moment a boss or enemy does a Big move. This is not a game that rewards patience or caution, it's all about quick thinking and reflexes.
That is not a value judgment, it's just a statement of fact. It's not to my taste but I respect it. Could do without star ratings, though.

Not really. They deliberately made XIII-2 easier because it was a major complaint by FF fans. There wasn’t a single difficult fight in XIII-2 till the DL Cs.
They nerfed a lot of well everything in the game and changed the 5 star system to be static so you could just grind and face roll.
XIII you DID need to be defensive at times and buffs and debuffs were substantially stronger than in XIII-2.
Apart from the designated Sentinel fights you never are defensive in XIII. You adopt defense for one attack from a boss and then immediately go back to laying into them.
As for there being no hard fight in XIII-2, that's because it's so open ended and not a linear hallway like XIII. You can actually do things in XIII-2 and be rewarded for it so naturally you overlevel. I've seen people who just went through the story without grinding or detours have trouble with Caius at Oerba.

I don't know the Japanese voices but is that the real Gabranth?
Giving Basch's outfit is a cheeky reference.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.Gabranth always had a Basch out fit in Dissidia. Hell, the first time we actually see him in XII he’s in a Basch outfit.
PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheySE just uploaded a high res video of the TGS demo
Also VII-R's NA boxart has been revealed and its exactly what you think it is.
Also also, full characters renders for Tifa, Barret, and Ifirt. Also Out first proper glimpse of the materia system.

GOH! JII! RAH!That's a reference to the start of XII, though.
People tend to forget about it because that particular twist is very early in the game.
Life is more fun with infinite MP....
Oh man. What are Tifa’s Meteor Drive / Strike Limit Breaks gonna look like in this game?
That’ll break some brains I’d say.
One Strip! One Strip!I still can't help but notice Tifa is punching that monster in the nads.
It's probably just going to wind up being a hit from above or something.
Given the ultra realism look they're going for I'm wondering what Red XIII will look like, all that fur..
New theme music also a boxAs I understand it, he barely appeared in Advent Children because his fur was his moma bitch to animate.
But that was then, and this is now.
One Strip! One Strip!Hey Square is constantly jacking off their engines & how advanced they are.
Big dog completely covered in individual pieces of fur is just another opportunity for them
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."There was probably some truth to that, but the fact that he was such a minor character relatively, both to the story and in the fandom's eyes, also meant it was easy to sideline him.
If he was central to the plot and/or extremely popular he would of had more screen time, rendering difficulties be damned.
Also SE had issues in general with animating four-legged creatures properly back then. Its the main reason why there wasnt a The Lion King world in the first Kingdom Hearts game.

GOH! JII! RAH!But Simba and Bambi were in the first game and they looked fine.

They were controlled by an AI and were not on screen constantly, the difficulty was making a character with four legs who was playable (Sora's lion form)
New theme music also a boxDoesn't help Red's case a lot of his plot was cut in pre-development, and he's not left with a whole lot to do. I like Machinabridged's take in making him a very goofy animal sidekick. Gives a lot of personality.
"No will to break."Red also suffers from having a pretty nonsense subplot.
Bugenhagen not once telling him about his father in all this time is just the tip of the iceberg on how nothing really makes sense in it.
I've always felt Barret had the best subplot in the game. Everything to do with Corel, Shinra and Dyne does a lot for both his character and the themes of the game.
Bugenhagen not once telling him about his father in all this time
I've played this game for years and never thought of that. I can't believe I missed something so obvious.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.If you think that's bad wait till you get to FFVIII.
Thats XIII-2, aka the piss easy one.
XIII you occasionally need to slow down and buff then murder and with the way the 5 star formula works, the lower your stats are the easier it is for that to work too. And the higher your stats the less time you have.
The way it works is (Enemy strength / Party strength) + 8 = Target time
Sum of each party member's [(Attack power x ATB Level) / (3.5 + ATB Level)] is Party Strength.
This is why if you are having a hard time 5 staring a boss you equip level 1 weapons, drive your party strength down and just get good at exploiting the stagger meter multiplier.
