Because Kinkajou told me to.

So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?

My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.

I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

Ye, it was in an old old old issue of Famitsu, Aerith got her name from transliterating the word Earth into katakana, Earth became "Earisu" or Aerith/Aeris.

The lesson learned here is; Translation and localisation is hard. Especially during the PS One era.

I wish we got to see more of Aerith and Tifa's playstyle. I'm guessing Aerith will have things that let her build ATB for magic more quickly then everyone else or something.

Well, there's a lot of game to divide up, and I'd be surprised if we get each part closer together than a year. I'd like to get each part sooner, but that's the gap I forecast.

So are they going to divide them up as physical media or have the subsequent parts as DLC?

Yea, that's actually kinda why I'm worried.

This game seems way too ambitious for it's own good. Didn't they have same idea back XV?

Huh. Will they hold back some of the limit breaks until later games?

I'm guessing the ultimate ones won't be available in this game due to taking place mostly in Midgar.

Maybe they'll dip into the characters moves from Dissidia (well, for Cloud and Tifa at least).

Maybe they'll go really nuts and use some moves from Ehrgeiz.

I need to finish my FF 7 playthrough, I let myself get distracted and now it is costing me. Do I need to rush in order to complete the story?

I'd much rather they not go in with a set number in mind. That's how things get rushed.

There is a nice medium between being open to changing your plan and not having one.

Overambition is a industry sin for sure and Square is hugging it close though.

Love the E3 content for the FF7 remake. Looks like they'll be launching it exclusively on PS4... and now I'm sad again. I don't care if they dis XBox owners — I have no investment in the console wars whatsoever — but don't leave the PC gamers out in the cold.

They ported FFXV to PC eventually. I'm sure the same will be true of VIIR though yes it sucks to have to wait.

Its pretty much guranteed to be a timed exclusive like all non KH square games to be ported to pc at a later date.

Seems like they may be breaking it out into multiple games worth of content, though? That's ambitious. And greedy? Don't get me wrong; FFVII is huge compared to modern games, but still.

I mean so long as its legit multiple full length games of content I don't really mind.

Rufus better be a more impressive final boss or otherwise a Jenova or something though.

[up][up] Well the only bad ports that SE has done in years were the outsourced mobile to PC ports that didn't change the UI from the mobile one back to the appropriate style.

I dont think that would be the case here.

@Shirow: I think its less them being overambitious and more just them wanting to focus one part at a time, which I'm fine with.

Also, unless I'm mistaken, the game being focused on Midgar means that Red XIII will probably be our only other party member. Unless they decide to add characters out of order.

[up][up]Not exactly. The first three games on the Gameboy were renamed The Final Fantasy Legend outside Japan for marketing purposes, but it was always SaGa in Japan, and didn't have major elements taken from Final Fantasy. The series is however headed by Akitoshi Kawazu, who was the game designer for the first two Final Fantasy games, and some of the SaGa games use evolved versions of ideas first experimented with in Final Fantasy II.
