Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

I've never actually listened to them to be honest
New theme music also a boxSpoony, along with The Dark Id, were sort of the poster boys for the cynical mockery of goofy JRPG plot and aesthetic sensibilities in the mid to late 2000's. I think his content's a bit dated now and I remember hearing Spoony himself ended up being kind of a fucked up person, so I haven't bothered watching any of his content since.
Dark Id has really chilled out a lot since then though.

First time I'm hearing of The Dark Id,the thing with Spoony is that you never stopped hearing about drama in his life
New theme music also a boxA review is meant to address facts.
Noah Antwiller's videos do not involve a single fact about the Final Fantasy games he acts like a twit about.
The Dark Id is an LP'er from Something Awful. He did LP's of Chrono Cross, Xenogears, Drakengard, and a lot more. He's still active today and is currently doing Shadow Hearts.
I think some of his content has aged poorly (a fact I believe he himself has admitted), but he did get me into Drakengard and Nie R by extension so there is that.

The Dark Id is mostly known for his written Let's Plays that are on the Something Awful forums and the LP Archive website, and gained a bit more notoriety for his LPs of the Resident Games and the DrakeNier series.
He's still a bit cynical and surly, imo, but yeah, he's calmed down a lot from his earlier days, and I still find him funny.
Really need to finish reading some of his more recent LPs that popped up on the Archive...

There's a running joke among the Drakenier community that his LP of the first Drakengard is the only good way to experience that game, because boy is it not enjoyable to play lol
My favourite LP is Tipping Forties playing Final Fantasy X.

Life is more fun with infinite MP.Put simply if you read Dark Id's Resi Evil 4 LP, then his Dirge of Cerberus LP and his Nier LP, and finally his Nier Automata LP you do see a considerable change in his writing, a lot of maturity and complete lack of the slurs he'd originally use by Nier Automata. He's matured so much which you can definitely tell by the Automata LP.
I legit believe Dark Id is partly responsible for Nier and Drakengard blowing up the way they did.
Nier and Drakengard blew up prior to Automata?
This song needs more love.Well I wouldn't quite say that.
Drakengard was a niche cult series, mostly just the first game, but it was kind of obscure.
The first Nie R was initially a flop overseas (though it sold decently in Japan and was always highly regarded critically there), but it slowly came to be more popular than the Drakengard games and considered better overall. Even before Automata it was already firmly cemented as a Cult Classic, but Automata's popularity is on an entirely different level.
Regardless, Dark Id's LP's were certainly influential in getting people into the series, no question about that.
Well with most of the games he'd done until Nie R he either thought they were enjoyable but had a lot of silly stuff, or just thought they were bad. Nie R he actually loved and called it his GOTY of 2010. In fact, that he, a notoriously cynical and jaded person, had such a positive opinion of it was part of the reason why I originally wanted to play it.

Both Nier/the Drakengard series and Platinum Games in general were always well regarded the way some indie film directors who's movies bigger audiences never watch were.
So it's kind of cool that Automata was such a mainstream success for both of them.
And for anyone wondering where Spoony is now, check out his Twitter account.
And why would I want to know about such a terrible person? He has done more damage to FF than anyone with his crap.
I mean I don't particularly care for the guy now but that feels like an exaggeration. I barely see anyone bringing up his takes and memes anymore, any influence he's had has long passed. FF 8 and 10 were contested way before Spoony was a thing, so that doesn't count.
> He has done more damage to FF than anyone with his crap.
square damaged their own brand by pumping out crap
New theme music also a boxAnd why exactly? Shouldn't Square Enix be responsible for whatever damage caused?

All Spoony did was popularize the concept of the anti-fan
His entire shtick was loudly complaining about games and the people who like them "I'm an old school gamer that hates this game for whatever dumb reasons and if you like it FUCK YOU you're wrong'
IE " My fans should hunt down FFX Fans and kill them!"
Back then it was seen as challenging the popular status quo...
In reality as time wore on... Noah and his toxicity'Which he fostered and attracted' basically hit critical mass
That and his criticisms are basically whining about aesthetics or over the top plot points.
over the top plot points in RPGS say it ain't soo
eventually it became evident he was going after targets that would give him notoriety not that he had substance to complain about.
I'm A Pervert not an Asshole!A lot of this sounds like some of you took his videos a little too personally. He didn't like a lot of VIII, X, or XIII and a lot of what he said was vitriolic and mean spirited, but I don't think he ever called for violence against anyone, and a not insignificant amount of his criticisms were valid.
None of those videos have aged well (his Ultima IX video gets so obnoxious that even though it's criticizing a universally reviled game I still think it goes way too overboard) but I don't think he's had any serious impact on the series's perception or anything.
Edited by Hashil on Dec 6th 2018 at 5:37:32 AM
From what I've heard, he calls for violence on Twitter.
What, against FF fans? All I've heard about him recently is that he bitches about Trump and conservatives on Twitter. Spoony isn't a bad person or anything, he just got fucked by mental illness and has seemingly lost any motivation to do anything except rot in his house and shitpost on Twitter.
Spoony's videos on VIII and XIII are good if you're fine with 2000's-style internet reviews, where it's not really a review but a psuedo-let's play while he mocks the game. His videos and X and X-2 aren't very good from little I remember of them, from lack real bad points for him to make fun of and him trying too hard to be angry about them.

Not sure, maybe against conservatives. Only got the idea from a random comment on the Spoony subreddit.
If you want harsh game reviews you just need Zero Punctuation.

What do you guys think of Spoony's Final Fantasy reviews?
