Unfrosted by Jerry Seinfeld

I’ve created a page for Unfrosted, a comedy film about the creation of Pop-Tarts directed by and starring Jerry Seinfeld.

Jerry's a bold man. His first acting role since Bee Movie and his two most prominent female co-stars happen to be the most polarising names among women comedians.

I get Schumer, but what’s polarizing about McCarthy?

I wouldn't be surprised if Jerry is counting on that.

I mean I think saying "I'm gonna star in a movie about the invention of pop tarts" is pretty bold because who the hell cares about that story?

A good storyteller can make any story interesting. And he’s making it interesting.

The thing about Melissa McCarthy as far as I know is that she's one of a few comedians that just plays as herself in most appearances.

Well she’s funny! And I like the naming scene! FRUIT MAGOOS! OBLONG NIBBLERS!

I’m hoping this movie makes fun of all the easily forgettable corporate backstory movies from last year.

Which ones?

And yeah it looks to be a parody of the space race, just with Pop-Tarts.

They did the story of the creation of Pop-Tarts on A&E's The Food That Built America. It's actually reasonably interesting. For instance, the initial shipment of Pop Tarts to stores sold out so quickly that they had to scramble to make more, and actually printed a public apology for not making enough to meet demand.

Re: Melissa Mc Carthy—I dunno, it always seems to me that most comedians tend to play themselves—or at least, they tend to play the same character a lot.

Melissa McCarthy was very good in Spy and not terribly good in anything else. Amy Schumer has never, to my knowledge, been good in anything.

I mean Melissa McCarthy has two Oscar nominations. She is quite the skilled actress.

Schumer is okay in Trainwreck but nothing else really.

& What about Trolls 3?

I think the concern with Schumer is more towards the plagiarism accusations.

…She was one of the villains in Trolls 3. Mind you, it’s the only Amy Schumer film I’ve ever seen, but I thought she was okay.

Voice work is different from live action acting. And Amy Schumer has been in a lot of (mostly forgettable) things. Judging from just that isn't really the full picture.

Amy Shumer is kind of like Dane Cook, a meteoric rise then hit by a massive backlash. I don't think she was particularly excited about the attention either, and has settled into a more casual career. McCarthy I don't think has ever been a controversial figure, just isolated comments but has also carved out a fairly eclectic career.

The movie kind of interests me largely for being a parody of the "True Story of Pointless Thing" trend (reminds me that after The Social Network Cracked had a movie posters contest for other websites and TV Tropes was number 1) and Seinfeld certainly doesn't do anything unless it amuses him.

(watches trailer) ...What in the Nine Hells did I just watch.

That and Melissa Mc Carthy being in this is a no-go for me; I find her less funny than watching a tour of St. Jude's cancer ward.

Now Bill Burr as JFK might make it watchable but yeah Mc Carthy AND Schumer? Fuck no.

You have to understand that this is an unserious movie, like Anchorman or Austin Powers. A pure comedy. If that doesn’t appeal to you, oh well.

I have never seen Amy Schumer act but I have seen her standup material. It’s just a lot of weird sex jokes and political asides that don't make me laugh in the slightest. It's to the point that she has pretty much tanked people's opinions on female standup comedians, thinking that they are all this awful.

Focusing back on the movie, is that Hugh Grant as Tony the Tiger I see?

Hugh Grant always makes a movie more enjoyable. He seems to have settled at a point in his career where he'll do anything, like really weird and eccentric characters. It's just a lot of the time he'll hate doing it.

I respect that.
