I mean, the first one was pure shlock but everyone involved knew it, Statham really leans into his Memetic Badass persona and it kind of works.

In theory eventually something has got to give and it will just become too ridiculous to sustain but as basically a B-Movie with a huge Hollywood budget the first one was very enjoyable. Not very good mind you... but enjoyable.

Wonder how early the scene of Skyler Samuels getting axed is in the movie. If it's much later in the film, I get showing it in the trailer for the clear shock value—and yet also worry that it takes away from the scene too if that's the case though.

A complete waste of Ben Wheatley's talents. Actually, of everybody's.

Lots of Jason Statham and friends getting in generic action movie scrapping for what was sold as a creature feature. But even that's preferable to what feels like hours spent in the Trench, a miserably dull and dim locale, with fodder characters who die boring and curiously non-visceral deaths, even by PG-13 standards.

Then someone seemed to remember, "Hey, our big monster movie needs some big monster action," and by the time it actually becomes even a little fun, the movie is almost over.

Hopefully the worst movie I see in a theater this year.

I thought it was fantastic. The entire cast is likeable, they have fun dynamics, the creature attacks take their time but do deliver when they come.

Also, a certain death that is only tangentially related to the creatures had EVERYONE in the theater gasp in a way I haven't seen in a long time.

It has A LOT of chinese money involved, so I guess they really like their creature feature over there.

If thats not a deal breaker for some, I feel you'll have a fun enough time.

Also liked this one better than the first. Many of the non-creature scenes in The Meg are fairly dull, but in The Trench once Statham's submersible is taken down by an explosion everything afterwards is eventful (such as having to walk in the ocean bed to reach an underwater station, mercenaries taking over the good guys' research base, some fistfights) and holds the attention better. Plus the violence is not as watered down - from a Meg attacking a crowded beach and barely killing anyone, to not refraining in showing people dying as many creatures (three Megs, a giant octopus and some lizard-like beasties) strike. A good indicator on how The Meg is mediocre is how I didn't remember that two of the crew were in the original, and one Took a Level in Badass. It's lots of cheesy fun, and only has not made that much money because the market is crowded and the pandemic changed things a bit.

Pitch Meeting of Meg 2. And no, this is not a new video:

Among others, I spat out my drinks at the "Something nuts would have to happen for a kind of mass education on oceanic pressure" part.

Yeah, that...that really is unfortunate for the movie. [lol][lol]

Missed it in the theater. Both are on the agenda soon though.
