He's not the God of Hammers... but maybe he wants to be.

He's the God of the Unworthy.

Which basically means he is defining himself absolutely by his worthiness to the hammer. Him being the God of Thunder is secondary/worthless to his worthiness to Mjolnir.

That is what happens when a man's entire self-esteem and self-worth is so beaten down and battered that he chooses to base his entire existence on a vague worthiness requirement only created so his father can teach his spoiled brat of a son a lesson in humility. [lol]

Looks like they'll be adapting the Jane having cancer storyline.

Link.

I just found out that the movie has Mooks in the form of Black Berserkers, I would like the Asgardian army to finally have its moment to shine, fighting against them.

That is to say, their last fight consisted of them being one-shotted by Captain America.

As long as this movie doesn't have a villain as bullshit as Hela, I'll be fine with it.

Well this is Gorr we're talking about, he is a pretty bullshit villain when you get down to it.

His entire thing is basically being the absolute worst thing Thor has ever face in his entire life.

[up]x5 Ugh. I wish they wouldn't. The entire cancer plot point was just a way to ensure everyone know that Jane Thor was temporary and 'real' Thor would be back eventually.

What's "funny" (in a bad way) is that it seems obvious (YMMV) that the storyline should have ended like Disney's Hercules - basically, Jane would die doing something heroic and then come back as a god.

Or I suppose, although I wouldn't have liked this, they could have had her Killed Off for Real (at least temporarily).

But the way they handled it, with Jane becoming a valkyrie, and sort of recovering from cancer, seems like an attempt to appease everyone.

I've wonder if making her Valkyrie is a bit of a downgrade.

I feel like maybe they should have just given her Ultimate Mjolnir and made her the current Thunderstrike.

Looks like they'll be adapting the Jane having cancer storyline.

I'm not so sure about that "confirmation." It's a random listing in some merch. I think I'll wait until we have more detail.

How would that even work, anyway? The cancer storyline relied on her Henshin Hero transformation. There's been no sign it works that way in the MCU; if you're worthy enough to pick up the hammer, you get the powers. Plus that would be a lot of extra CGI to make her sickly for, as noted, a storyline that just exists to put a time limit on her existence.

A question about the comics: could Jane possibly never turn back to mortal form and have Thor's power 100% of the time?

As long as this movie doesn't have a villain as bullshit as Hela, I'll be fine with it.

What's wrong with Hela? I thought she was one of the better Marvel villains.

This is probably the most excited I've ever been for a Marvel movie (I'm normally more of a DC person). I loved Thor Ragnarok and I'm rapidly becoming a fan of Taika Waititi in general. I hope Love and Thunder lives up to that amazing teaser trailer.

Beta Ray Bill is always a cyborg alien horse-face with strength rivaling Thor's. Because that's what he was before he got a hammer.

[up][up][up]Can't speak for the OP, but it really raises questions on the utility/purpose of Asgard's army if it can be destroyed by one person. Also, on why/how Odin was able to bind her?

More generally, Asgard gets Worfed pretty hard in almost every Thor movie, Hela's just the most obvious because she arrives alone.

This is one of the cases where I'd have been inclined to lean on the antiquity of some of the Asgardians. Some of them surely knew and served under her. Odin is dead, his sons are gone and Hela is here, rather than having her massacre the entire army, really lean into the conqueror and 'rightful' queen aspects of her persona. Call out to her old allies, remind them of what they were and of the oaths sworn to her and her house. Give me a commander, not a one woman army. I'd have found that much more interesting.

ETA: Also, an enemy who can't possibly be defeated, but has to be escaped can be interesting, but doesn't really fit with the MCU as a whole, which is very big on 'every problem can be fought, eventually.'

Hela is charming in a pulpy kind of way and she hams a lot but other than that....yeah she is pretty one note.

It dosent help she barely have any interaction with Thor and because he is another planet most of the time they dont get to interact. Also Thor dosent really care about the throne of Asgard that much so Hela being the real heir just dosent product that much of a impact.

[up]Thinking about this a bit more, I think my proposed solution also works better with where they were clearly going to have the narrative end up, with the destruction of Asgard and its people as refugees so they can face down Thanos and kickstart the endgame.

That destruction is narratively required on theoretically two levels:

1) To stop Hela, who's basically all powerful so long as it exists (which is a writing choice, nothing else).

2) To punish Asgard for becoming a gold covered paradise via colonialism and conquest.

But (2) is handled remarkably weakly and entirely through dialogue and a few tiny flashbacks. Whereas if you have Asgardians, especially warriors, perfectly willing to follow a leader who promises to take them back to when they were conquerors, as the place splits into civil war...which the Odin/Thor loyalists are clearly losing, then it lands a lot better, at least to me.

It also would have given her a stronger motive to shove Loki/Thor out of the way, though as she's a blood knight, maybe not kill them 'good luck little brothers, I look forward to seeing what army you can muster to try to stop me!' And it would give her some people to talk to, besides the Executioner, who she clearly disdains for his weakness and treason.

I feel like the reason Jane agrees to be Thor here is so that she can be rid of her cancer.

I wonder if they'll just have Jane be in the early stages of cancer, so that there won't be that much of a difference between that her and Thor her, or if they'll give her cancer riddled self the full Chris-Evans-at-the-start-of-First-Avenger treatment.
