part of me feels like Amy won't appear in Sonic 3 because if they were going to introduce her it would have been in the 2nd film in Tail's spot

I feel like that’s not accounting for how Tails is Sonic’s number two nine times out of ten so he typically gets priority.

Don't forget, we didn't know about Knuckles until much later, so for all we know, she could Sonic 3's Knuckles-level reveal.

By the way, something about Robotnik's defeat hit me recently. In the Temple scene, when Knux and Robotnik are being chased by the boulder, the latter complains "I don't want to die like this! It's derivative!" But when Robotnik is defeated by Super Sonic, he falls into the unknown. Which is also arguably a derivative way to die.

So would this be foreshadowing or a brick joke?

Falling into the unknown is more cliche than derivative. It's not a specific reference to a particular thing, the way getting crushed by an Indiana Jones temple of doom boulder is

Speaking of "derivative," I wonder if the critics (granted, they don't seem to like these movies anyway) will say Shadow is too derivative of Knuckles. Depends how Shadow is written in the movie, of course.

That's a complaint Shadow has always had tbh.

So, the Writers Strike has started. What could this do to Sonic 3?

Depends on if the script is finished, or how far along it is.

I wonder how far in the script they got.

If it wasn't finished, I very much hope they've learned from the last major writer's strike and just delay the thing instead of having some underpaid scab fix it.

That's what I hope happens too, if they didn't finish writing the scripts. I would rather have the movie be delayed to 2025, then to have a half baked script that can ruin the movie.

There's even this post on Tumblr about speculations about what the Writers Strike could do to Sonic 3. But, take all this with a grain of salt.

My original idea for sonic 3, before Sonic 2 came out, was that off-world immigration had started in small amounts, and Amy came over through there before getting swept up in stuff beyond her experience.

It might happen, but it's also likely to not happen.

How come everyone from Sonic's world would immigrate to Earth?

I wasn't thinking everyone, but at least some people, presumably because Earth has, at the very least, indoor toilets.

With "villain" specified, the main options seem to be:

1. Rouge the Bat
2. A replacement OC to fill the void left by Jim Carrey's departure.
3. Both: Rouge the Bat with an adaptational villainy upgrade to fill the void left by Jim Carrey's departure.
4. Neither: This is definitely true according to some rando website's "trusted and proven sources" inside Paramount = It's just clickbait.

(And before anyone asks, no, we do not know for sure whether Carrey will be returning for Sonic 3. It seems unlikely, but the conflict created by his retirement has not resulted definitively in a "Yes" or "No" as of yet.)
