A new Disney show is being made called Primos. It's created by Big City Greens director Natasha Kline. The show centers on Tater, an eccentric 10-year-old girl with big dreams and, unbeknownst to her, a certain “it factor” that makes her exceptional. When her 12 cousins (“primos” in Spanish) move in for the summer, they help her discover just what it is. Tater’s aspirations and larger-than-life imagination are seen via entries in her super-secret diary, which turn her deepest thoughts into grandiose animation sequences.

- Like ten of them, all with the very specific same speech pattern.
...literally what did I say that has anything to do with AAVE? Unless you're referring to the other poster?
it feels really bad seeing a show get off to a rough start like this, hopefully they weather the storm
New theme music also a boxTime will tell. Honestly, I’m just gonna steer clear of this show’s discourse until it’s out.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.Yeah I was talking to Kirb-Star
yeah,no.
New theme music also a boxI think this thread needs to roll back the dump trucks a little.
what I'm hoping is that the current backlash is a bump in a road and the episodes themselves win people over so the complaints get drowned out,but the episodes actually have to air first.
New theme music also a boxControversy aside, I maintain that it's ugly as sin, so it has that going against it, too.
If it makes it to air, after the initial "is it really that bad?" dummies drop out, ratings are gonna plummet.
I've seen way uglier, more hideous cartoons, this in my view is not one of them.
I wonder if it's influenced by Craig of Greek or Victor and Valentino
New theme music also a boxYeah. Fingers crossed the final product redeems itself.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.but its not done anything wrong! Its just had a poor reception which really isn't helping things
New theme music also a boxGonna be honest, the funniest thing that has came from this show are people accusing it of mexican Loud House... Only to later realize that The Casagrandes already exist lmao.
Dr. Amigo es dioswhich was cancelled because the loud house is still more popular
New theme music also a boxNot interested. The premise is basically The Casagrandes: Disney Edition, it looks really poor in my opinion (less like the standards for a Disney TVA show and more like Slippin’ Jimmy), and even brushing all the possible cultural inauthenticities aside, there’s just nothing to hook me, no unique premise or characters. Cool if you’re looking forward to it.
“Now! Let us engage in the art of deduction!”not even before they air an episode?
New theme music also a boxIf promotional material isn't grabbing you, why watch the show/movie? It feels mean to say this in the midst of the show getting dunked on, but nothing presented for Primos appeals to me either, so I'll also be giving this a skip too. (Honestly, the only Disney TVA series I'm keeping tabs on these days is The Ghost and Molly McGee.)

Mexican here. Unfortunately seeing the creators comments i feel like they're doing the bare minimum research of the culture and it does feel lazy. It's probably gonna be okay, there's probably gonna be cool moments in a few episodes, but yeah, i'm probably not gonna watch it, even ignoring the latino representation stuff.
I'm not trying to kick the show while it's down, but i just wanted to give thoughts.

Due to unfortunate events, i will continue to exist until further notice.> If promotional material isn't grabbing you, why watch the show/movie?
that's fair,if promotional trailer fails to grab your attention then it has failed in it's very basic mission,I can't fault people for that.
However, what I can fault people for in this instance for saying its 'ugly' when it's nowhere near the level of ugly animation or grossly attacking the show runner
New theme music also a boxThe art style certainly isn't what I'd call appealing, but it isn't floating png tier animation.
Oissu!Unfortunately I don't buy the show's good faith. One of the voice actress, a Mexican-American woman, released an entire video saying they are making a show for "kids who feel different and have no good grasp on the Spanish language".
The video starts by saying Spanish is not a Latin-American language, but is a language forced on the population. She says this while speaking English.
This pisses me off. We, Latin-Americans, didn't make the language our own after centuries of colonization and decades of independence (one of the historical founding fathers of my country, Andres Bello, a teacher of the liberator Simón Bolívar, did much for the evolution of the language in the region) for this woman to now tell us we "are speaking the language of oppresors".
If I'm misunderstanding what she says, please correct me, but this geniunely pisses me off.

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.Again, given the sheer amount of harassment over a single promo and the amount of lies and nonsense spewed in response, I don't blame knee-jerk responses like this.
But it's ridiculous to act like a silly little kid's cartoon that hasn't even aired yet is some affront to the entirety of Latin America when the creator is literally basing it off her experiences growing up.
I mean, most of the backlash has been from actual Latin American people rather than white people bandwagoning on something they have no experience with, so I’d have to assume they have at least some degree of a point.
