Metroid Dread - Spoilers Thread

Not even having a GENERAL Prime ending screen feels pretty suspect to me. Could have had it as a second bonus for getting all the others, at least.

Man they really just straight up say that Samus is Metroid.

Makes all those memes about people not knowing Samus' name pretty funny XD

I think we don't need to use spoiler tags now since by this point, everyone should be aware of the story beats and characters.

Does it keep the age-old tradition of the planet exploding at the end?

ZDR explodes after Samus crash lands Raven Beak's ship on the surface. Not that it's a bad thing that Raven Beak had also unleashed the X Parasites on the planet, which pretty much makes ZDR unsalvageable.

So naturally, Samus has to do the old Chozo method when things go south:

Blow up the planet.

She must have really good Hero Insurance cause it just. Keeps. Happening.

The Federation will likely try to revoke said insurance if they find out there were X parasites on that planet. They really wanted those and did not appreciate Samus blowing up the last place that had them.

I did notice, however, that the soundtrack is a bit lacking. Felt a biiit like Other M's.

Okay, so I swear Emmis are programmed to only patrol within a few rooms of the player no matter where the player enters. There's no other way to explain why they just keep prowling the rooms that I have to pass through to get out of dead ends.

Yeah I noticed that too. I think they spawn in specific spots depending on where you enter the E.M.M.I zone from.

Has anyone seen if Kraid gets absorbed by an X? It's left ambiguous what happens to him after he sinks into the lava, but the Final Boss clearly looks like a mix between him and Raven Beak.

I think it's deliberately kept hidden, since without sequence breaking it's impossible to get down into the lava to see immediately after killing him because you don't have the gravity suit.

Quiet Robe showing up for a big exposition dump then immediately dying made me laugh. So cliche. Raven Beak was a cool villain though. Meanwhile the X remain baffling about how conscious they are. How much of Quiet Robe-X was the bird, and how much the parasite? The fact that he explicitly helped Samus is interesting, but he also restarted the E.M.M.I., which I assume was an attempt to kill Samus. Plenty to wonder about at least.

That sounds pretty similar to Metroid Fusion, where one of the SA-X chooses to let Samus absorb it in order to allow Samus the power to kill the Omega Metroid at the end. They seem pretty sentient depending on their host.

Hm. Odd.

Nevertheless, a curious choice. It does create a nice Book End for the series, with Kraid being the first boss in the original metroid.

All X parasites are sentient, considering sentient means "having the power of perception by the senses; conscious." I think the word you're looking for is "sapient."

Every single animal that has a brain is sentient. Thus far only humans are sapient, although the other great apes, many dolphins, elephants, many parrots and many corvids come close. And all of those are capable of abstract thought and of pondering non-inmediate consequences.

And Manta rays are near sapient too!

I mean, humans only admit that humans are sapient and refuse possibility that other animals might be sapient too because it would be uncomfortable for humans to think of how intelligence animals they eat, keep captive or kill casually are

Given that this is the Grand Finale of the Metroid story arc, future antagonists will likely be the corrupt elements of the Federation itself. The ones behind the Bottle Ship. The ones who wanted the X Parasites. These assholes will almost certainly want Samus Aran herself for the same reasons Raven Beak did.

In Japan, the corrupt portion of the Galactic Police that did all that shit in Other M were actually caught and shut down, so they're no longer a factor.

I don't know what's stupider, this plot detail despite already knowing what happens in Fusion, or the fact that it got dropped in the translation despite Sakomoto personally directing both versions and thus personally knowing what information is missing from one version or another.

I'd rather see brand new villains honestly. I could imagine an ancient and long-thought extinct precursor species that was defeated by the warrior era of Chozo and forced into hiding that sees an opportunity to make a comeback now that the closest thing to their greatest enemies, the Mawkin tribe, are extinct.

Maybe they could have a Metroid prime game that takes place post Dread, instead of between 1 and Samus returns.
