Disney's Cruella

I think the essence of Cruella is that she's a person who cannot accept being told no about anything she desires - I agree that not necessarily having her motivation be a fur obsession specifically is a good call. While she lives for furs, ultimately in the plot she's obsessed with the dalmatian fur coat because she wanted it, and people dared to tell her she couldn't have it.

The way this movie frame more as desire to be admireand being seen as special by others, dalmatns are rare and make fur for them is special and above others.

And while this trailer does have a very joker feel, is weird to see woman villians like this so I aprove it.

Honestly jokes aside. I do appreciate that their at least doing something different from the usual Disney remakes so theirs that.

As far as potential goes, this could be the best of the live action Disney movies, even more than Jungle Book and Pete's Dragon.

A friend of mine joked that they should have cast Lindsay Lohan as Cruella instead.

Just so that the Cruella jokes in the Parent Trap remake could become Hilarious in Hindsight.

The Stinger I'm hoping they do: Angelina Jolie shows up at the end and tells her; "Excuse me, Cruella? I'd like to talk to you...about Kingdom Hearts."

Easy jokes aside, I really don't see any similarities between this and Joker.

Is the trailer that give Cruella this esque "Im just the protagonist of my story and you are just vague people in it" speciallyt he part were the building is cover in grafity of her name have a very Joker feel.

I haven't seen Joker either but knowing the story of it roughly and looking at this trailer I'm not sure what the point of comparison is beyond simply having a Villain protagonist who revels in being bad. The trailer's narration doesn't imply Cruella has some kind of tragic story that leads her to be who she is. She even says she was "born bad".

Trailers can lie but going off this, it kinda feels like the story is cruella starts off already an egotistical person but gets obsessed and gradually become bombastically worse.

I just realized that in the trailer, you see Cruella holding what appears to be a red wig. Which pretty much implies that the red hair we see in the trailer is probably a wig, while the two toned hair she has here is her "actual" hair.

Part of it is just a short memory, but being a Villain Protagonist prequel with numerous hints towards a more famous adventure, a particular Period Piece aesthetic and strong genre undertones and I can see the connection. A (theoretically) kid friendly version of the same idea.

Personally, she was a maniacally hilarious villain for the original animated movie and Glenn Close was great in the 90's remake but I can't really see her as an especially complex character with a story that has anything interesting to say. The original film just portrayed her as high society with a lot of money while the Glenn Close version reasonably made her a fashion mogul that Anita worked for.

Joker, for its part, tried to downplay its connection to the greater Batman mythos, in fact I believe besides the Joker name and the Waynes they are all original characters (Joker's original name and backstory changes with each incarnation). My main concern with Cruella will be two hours of hinting towards 101 Dalmatians.

I hope they release this online soon after it comes out. I can't go to theatres yet, I'm immunocompromised. And it seems this is only coming out in theatres.

I'm not inclined to see this, but one thing could change my mind in a big way: if they have Cruella sing a cover of "See My Vest".

You should read Cruella's novel version because there are some nasty stuff that was left out in. In the original version, she owned a pedigree cat and she drowned her kittens because they weren't.

Also in the books she loved to eat really spicy food and had an obsession with diamonds as much with fur.

Can they do that? Oh, right, Disney has the rights to that now. Stupid monopolizing Disney.

A Lso I remember the book version of 101 Dalmatians turns 65 this year.

Yeah, I think the make-or-break point of this movie is going to be whether they characterize Cruella as the same sort of "misunderstood villain" that they did with Maleficent.

The problem is, it's common knowledge in Disney at this point that Cruella WANTS TO SKIN PUPPIES ALIVE TO MAKE A COAT AS HER ULTIMATE GOAL. You can not make that goal reality and still be a good person.

She looks like a person who revels in being bad and has no sympathetic qualities to me.
