My issue isn't really the rape itself, you can do dark stuff. There's just... so much of it, and so graphically. pretty much every RPG has goblins as a common low-tier enemy you kill without a second thought. Why does the series spend so much time and effort making goblins truly irredeemable trash who fundamentally need rape to exist, when you don't need to convince people of that? You had me at "roving bands of goblins attack villages".
I tried to read it for a bit, but it was just so common that i really though "what market is this even for? Evangelizing against Goblin Rights people? Or goblin rape hentai?". Gimme the fun D&D stuff. But unfortunately the writer seems to think the goblin rape is like the core of the story, rather than the goblin slaying.

Huh. I thought it gets toned down a lot later on.
Secret SignatureI dunno if it did, i couldn't keep up that long.
It does. At least in the manga. The later chapters donโt depict the rape, even if it happens. I kinda feel like the earlier chapters where the artist did show that kind of thing was basically a form of โlook at us, weโre so edgyโ marketing. No such thing as bad publicity and all that.
Back to Mushoku Tensei, even considering the unsavory pedo crap, I wouldnโt classify it as trashy isekai tier. Like thereโs at least some effort towards the worldbuilding, none of the video-game BS.
Mhm. Mushoku Tensei is a fundamentally competent piece of media. One where the protagonist is a creepy perv and sometimes things happen that make me suss on the author.
But there's no rule stating that creepy pervs can't be good writers, nor is their one saying that their writing can't be competently adapted.
"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."Mushoku Tensei itself is also just the prologue to a much grander and bigger adventure that the author wants to write someday.
its The Hobbit to the Eventual equivalent fo the Lord of the Rings trilogy, basically.
Watch SymphogearI mean, a writer can still make mistakes. I don't think Mushoku is flawless in that regard. There are times it does the perv thing well and there are times it does it poorly
I think many people's issues with Mushoku's depiction of sex and perversion is that it skits the line between actually serving a purpose or just being there for the sake of gracious fanservice. Its like, its trying to have it's cake and eat it too.
It wants to depict the development of a disgusting grown man and have him grow out of his creepy and perverted ways into someone who wants to make the best of his new life, but it also wants to have that titillation for the (mostly male) audiences who read these series for that stuff.
It muddles the message and makes people confused when the intent isn't clear; if it was just trashy fanservice, people could write it off as that and move on (Like people have done with Redo of Healer :V) but it's clearly trying to present a poignant message...while also indulging in it as well.
It reminds me of Shield Hero actually, albeit with much better production values.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Yeah, I tend to be more accepting of the fanservice:serious scenes oscillating in a show like monogatari because the show is 80% weird banter in the first place (and there are no illusions in universe that Araragi isn't a weirdo).
In comparison Mushoku's indulgence in Rudy constantly sexualizing the women (and unfortunately girls) he meets all the while trying to sell a story where he becomes a worthwhile member of society feels very... bleh. Especially since of all his bad habits it's the one played almost always for comedy and which even now he struggles to acknowledge as one of his problems.
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysNew Ep.
Desert village really reminds me of the Desert Kingdom from Nier, its great, right down to the demon god language being the primary speech akin to the gibberish of the Desert kingdom people.
Also, Total Recall Demoness was great, too.
Watch SymphogearNice to know that Eris has truly fundamentally not changed as a person, but they really need to get that temper of hers under wraps as well as her extreme dependant on people she admires before she kills someone in a fit of rage.
On that note Rujierd has some issues. I'm grateful that he has a deep seated flaw that is not related to his pants but his anger of such a 'mundane' crime really made me nervous. Also someone compared him to Atalante and that's just about the worst thing you could saddle me with mentally. Damn you!!
I still really like him though, and this episode was interesting. Hitogami is still shady as hell even if he gave some actually helpful advice
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysThis episode was outsourced. But you wouldn't think that with how good it still looks in spite of it.

Watch SymphogearWow, really? Would have never known.
Itโs the little details in the world that make it feel so much like a real place. From the primary language being the Demon language, to how the marketplace is selling blue scorpions because thatโs what the local wildlife is.
I am not liking the Hitogami segments. Awkward way to continue the plot.
Kinda dig the rowdiness at the Adventurerโs guild. Now thatโs a proper fantasy RPG tavern. Seems like itโs got the usual rankings for parties, and itโs cool how Rudeus finds way to take on higher-level subjugation quests. Also good for us viewers because that means more gorgeous monster-slaying action. More dances of death from Eris, please.
Eris really needs to learn anger management. Though she might be a little more stressed out worrying about her home and family. That was a nice moment. And her brusqueness helps sometimes, like when dealing with Rujierd. Speaking of Rujierd I like him a lot more now that weโve glimpsed a bit more of how his gears turn. Will be interesting to see how he adjust his moral compass to be less rigid.
I get the vibe that the Hitogami segments are meant to feel kind of disconnected from the main plot, he kind of runs against everything in the show from the way he talks to how he's animated.

I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysHitogami's awkwardness is intentional, meant to show just how utterly incomprehensible he is.
The fact that by Anime CG standards he's so realistically fluid is creepy as well.
Watch SymphogearYea, it's intentionally weird and vague because, well, Hitogami is a god, they'd be weird and vague.
They still feel completely unnecessary though. That's twice he's shown up and told Rudeus to do the incredibly obvious thing - shit pay or not, surely they would have had to take that cat-finding quest anyway if they want to make a little money.
I feel like you might be taking the stuff he says a bit too much at face value. Especially since we don't even know why he's helping Rudeus.
He's such an odd creepy person who doesn't say anything detailed about himself or why he even gives a shit about Rudy all the while being overly familiar. Just some general seemingly straightforward advice (Rudy himself acknowledges that Rujierd would have probably helped them regardless of what he said)

I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysAh right this is anime only thread, almost forgot that.
But yeah, I also add that one of things that frustrates me about Mushoku Tensei is that it actually has several features I want more in isekai 1) world building 2) end goal and plot. 3) villain that is threat
But all of that is kinda ruined for me since it come with "but eeeeeeeeeeeeeh you gotta ignore/stand MC being creeper and writer thinking that is okay for whatever story reason" And then there is the other things that happen that is also "whyyyy"

Well there's unfortunately no such thing as a perfect property, and that imperfection is unfortunately the author thinking with his crotch while he writes some controversial scenes and the characters following suit.
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysI personaly don't care about the flaws as long as the rest of the work is compelling. Which it is. Easily one of the most compelling Isekai I've watched and read alongside Re Zero, and The Beginning After the End.
Of cours,e I acknowledge they exist, but I don't find them to be that big a deal.
Watch SymphogearI mean, even if you somehow get past the MC being creeper, why DID the author have to include actual incest in the story?
Edited by SpookyMask on Mar 14th 2021 at 12:02:02 PM
If you mean between Eris and Rudy, its established their branches in the family are far apart. As for Aisha and Ruijerd, I couldn't tell you why. Doesn't really bother me anyhow, if its what the author wants to do, then so be it.
Watch Symphogear...How do you just ignore that though?
Sure you can! GS just does it poorly, by making the extremely dark stuff shit like rape instead of like, cyber-zombie-werewolf-demons...who do not rape.
