I could have sworn that "CalArts style" was the term he coined, and that he applied it to works mimicking a certain Disney style.

"Cal Arts Style" is the same thing. I misread the description and thought he coined Thin-Line instead of "Cal Arts".

Maybe it's a contrast to Thick-Line Animation, or maybe it's because HD allows for thin-lines to be more noticeable. At least, that's what I believe.
