I don't know if there's a thread for this, but I'll post anyway. This trailer for the live action Winx Club came out.

.... Well this is unexpected. Maybe I can expect a live action W.I.T.C.H. in the future.

I'm pretty sure if there was any new WITCH content people wanted, it would be season 3.

So who's missing from the cast here? There are supposed to be six of them and Aisha is appearing early.

Hope this turns out good.

Although while I'm hopeful, I'm not expecting it to be amazing.

Also can confirm, if they were to make new WITCH content I would love season 3.

[up]x2

They got rid of Tecna and even though I never watched past season two of the cartoon that sucks because she was always my favorite. But they also whitewashed everyone and failed to make them the fashionistas they're meant to be while making things darker and edgier so it's an uphill battle either way.

I know next to nothing about Winx, but I'll probably give this a shot because I like Abigail Cowen.

[up][up] You could make the argument their clothes in this show are reflective of modern fashion trends.

I can't and won't justify the whitewashing.

I remember when the original cartoon aired.

Then when like the 10th season showed up in my Wikia feed.

I don't think this franchise is ever going to die.

Specifically, they whitewashed the East Asian and Latina characters, Musa and Flora.

[up] I just don't understand why this happened. Surely they've seen the backlash studios have gotten for these mistakes.

Forget it windleopard, it's Netflix.

That's just - it's Netflix. They're line up is often very racially diverse and they seem to be fairly progressive. How did no one catch this?

Why would anyone trust them with the live-action Avatar series after this? One of the main draws was that they wouldn't whitewash anyone like the live action movie did.

Netflix is not progressive. This isn't even the first time it's been accused of whitewashing something.

I assume you mean the Death Note film? Any other examples?

Thing is, Death Note is pretty much the only other live action adaptation of a work with non-white main characters that Netflix has done so far.

Other than that, there's this upcoming Winx adaptation (which we've seen has whitewashing already) and the upcoming Avatar adaptation.

And we don't know for certain there won't be whitewashing in the Avatar adaptation either.

Let's try to keep the conversation focused on this show, and not Netflix as a whole.

Otherwise, probably best to take the topic to private messages.

Also don't really like the intended Darker and Edgier direction for this show.

Winx is not a series that needed to be Darker and Edgier.

Not every series needs to be Black Mirror or something.

Another tiny bit of credit to give to them: there will be male fairies and female specialists it seems.

The Irish landscape gives Fate its connection to ancient faerie magic, but the show also had to feel relevant to the concerns of modern teens. That meant challenging the outdated gender roles of the original animated series. “In our show, boys can be fairies, girls can be specialists,” says Young. “We’re in the 21st century.”

Yeah, it really never made sense that fairies were all girls.

Plenty of older media had male fairies with wings and everything.

I would like to clarify that the production studio techincally isn't Netflix, but the ViacomCBS co-owned studio Rainbow S.r.l. (which owns the Winx franchise to begin with). They also serve as the distributor of the series, so they most likely have more say in everything compared to Netflix, which is listed as only airing the series.

I don’t understand why TV Tropes keeps cutting the page with the reason that there is no promotional material there is a teaser and we images and social media pages. They also say it’s speculation that the show is a Live Action Adaptation of Winx Club.

[up][up][up] there apparently needs to be citations.

Also, apparently the series will be rated TV-MA.
