MandaloreGaming is a channel, that specifically reviews video games, that are often either old or forgotten or something the author interested in. Genres of these video games range far, from RTS and Adventure Games to FPS shooters.

Here is his latest review of an old memetic So Bad, It's Good game:

I quite enjoy his videos. Especially looking at older stuff, and RTS games.

I've only watched his (very long) Warhammer review so far, but it was pretty enjoyable.

After watching the review of The Mystery of the Druids I have a thought. Given the fact that the druids were a real religious group it seem to me like they're portrayal in the game is incredibly racist.

Isn't that true of like... basically every fantasy druid portrayal?

[up] True but this one seems especially so to me.

Druids are always portrayed either as creepy dudes in the woods doing human sacrifices or as flower-power animal-lovers that can use plant-based magic or turn into animals.

Druids are more like a religious group than a ethnic group.

"Iron Age Druidry" has basically died out completely. Since about the 1800's, there's been religious movements using the name "Druidry" (which persists to the modern day) but there's little to no actual continuity between the two religions (the earliest of these movements even considered themselves Christian, according to Wikipedia).

As for Iron Age Druidry, to my understanding it's possible they preformed some rather creepy rituals, some of which involved human sacrifice. Admittedly, most of the records on this come from Greece and Rome who would not be above lying about that, but IIRC there's some suspect graves that seem to give evidence that they did (but the jury's still out). For what it's worth, according to these records they primarily sacrificed criminals, so it was more of a religious form of capital punishment than anything, but they supposedly did sacrifice innocents if criminals were in short supply.

Also when saying "They did" keep in mind that "They" are cultures spread across centuries who relied mostly on oral Traditions.

Heck the first person to give detailed record of Druids is Caesar, and after his conquest Druids were outlawed till Tiberius (And would cease to exist by the 2nd century). So that's the tail end of their existence.

[up]The first Thief remains perhaps my favourite entry in that series:

While Thief 2 did introduce better level-design and had a more-memorable primary antagonist, Thief 1 has all that lovely supernatural and ghostly stuff that I so enjoy. While thematically appropriate, and I don't gainsay it at all, I do somewhat mourn the loss of those elements in Thief 2!

For reference: "Down in the Bonehoard" is one of my favourite levels from the series, with the abandoned Old Quarter and the Haunted Cathedral shortly behind.

As to the channel, it looks interesting! I've saved a few videos to my "Watch Later" list for trial viewing, and may subscribe if I like them. ^_^

The cradle level is the only reason I'd consider playing Deadly Shadows,I watched a playthrough on youtube,it is impressive how they made a genuinely scary level

That was a pretty good review, and the finale in a pretty good series, I do feel! ^_^

As to the game itself, I liked it, as I recall. I prefer Thief 1 and Thief 2, but Thief 3 is a fine enough game, with some nice stealthing to be had, I feel. Especially with the fan-patch applied to (amongst other things) remove most of those loading zones!

You know, calling your game the [insert franchise/game here] killer has to be one of the most hubristic trends I've seen over the years.

It's like they're asking for their game to fail.

I still remember when all those MMOs were marketed as WoW killers and all of them just died with a whimper - mainly because none of them actually offered anything better or more innovative compared to WoW.

I don't understand why companies don't more often just try to make product that is good or fun, why it has to be the "best in the genre" is just confusion notion to me tongue

Because in some cases there's not that much space for competition in the first place. For example, MMOs require a lot of investment from their players, so most people wouldn't play more than one at a time. So you have.

There's also the problem that in at least some cases the people making those decisions... are not actually people who have any clue about video games.
