What the title makes you think it is: The Stock Phrase "Didn't see that coming".
What it actually is: Someone makes a plan that fails because of something they didn't predict.
No part of this name indicates plans or gambits are involved in any way; and in fact, it doesn't even require someone to say the phrase, so it shouldn't be named after it because that's what people will think the trope is. It should be titled something like "Unforeseen Variable", and Didn't See That Coming could be moved to Other Stock Phrases. The title is really ill-fitting and misleading.
Now, granted, Unforeseen Variable could confuse people into thinking it's the same thing as Spanner in the Works, so I'm open to suggestions.
