Man has always looked to a higher power for guidance and protection, whether kings, gods, or heroes. These things keep man pushing forward, holding the darkness at the edge of their vision so they may lead normal lives. However just because darkness is out of view doesn't mean it is toothless, quite the opposite. From the shadows horrifying creatures prey on humanity in the modern age, slowly growing their power and planting their roots until they are ready to once more reappear in the world.

To combat these threats in the modern age a new method was needed to protect mankind from the darkness, training a new age of heroes who would wage their battles against the darkness in the shadows of the world. Thus the creation of Solomon Academy, on the surface a prestigious school for the best and brightest, pulling from all over the world to fill their classes.

But at the same time every year a small class is brought in on an all expenses paid scholarship, including free room and board for the entirety of their education so long as they join an 'advanced course' exclusive to them. However these students all share a common secret, a lineage reaching back toward either the divine or heroic that allows them access to the abilities to wage war against the things that stalk the dark. While their peers study they will be forged into tools to safeguard the world, even undertaking missions to fight off more blatant threats under the supervision of one of the Academy's many professors.

Will you take up the torch and guide humanity forward?

Character Sheet

  • Name:
  • Age: (14-16)
  • Appearance:
  • Personality:
  • Lineage: (From bloodlines leading back to deities, to connection to the fae, or even a connection to an ancient hero this is the unique line that brought you to Solomon Academy)
  • Divine Connection: (A weapon, skill, of magic that connects to your Lineage that allows your character to stand with their peers. Most will have no idea of their own abilities until they are brought to the Academy and put under stress. But there are exceptions, families that have taught their connection or trained their sons and daughters in the ancient ways)
  • Backstory: (For most just what their lives were like leading to their invitation to the Academy. Please try to refrain from giving your character a super dramatic backstory right off the bat, by and large most people don't interact with the supernatural outside of rare occurrences, or if they have they won't have memory of it.)
  • Misc: (A catch all for anything not in the basic character sheet.)

AKA Nixer

  • Name: Shea Heffernan
  • Age: 16
  • Appearance: 5'6". Lithe build and graceful demeanour; inherently athletic and agile with almost superhuman levels of poise. Otherwise gentle and slow, careful and hesitant as if afraid they'll damage something or someone. Small, catlike ears poke just barely out from their scruff of brown hair—appropriately, they also possess a long tail that they usually keep wrapped around their stomach and beneath their shirt in hiding. Overall seem objectively ordinary, but have a sense of inhumanity that never leaves them.
  • Personality: A quiet, gentle and nervous sort, kind and sensitive in mannerisms yet simultaneously possessing a certain offness to them that can't be readily identified. Shea wilts under pressure and evidently thinks lowly of themselves, but they seem to think in a manner unlike most ordinary people—making strange leaps of logic or coming out with spontaneous phrases that seem to have little or no connection with anything. Shea has a profound fixation around animals and practically melts whenever they're around them—which given this extends to almost every breathing thing excluding them can end up being distracting to them and sometimes outright disruptive. Shea also possesses an infantile sense of curiosity which manifests primarily in the form of ‘poke it until it makes sense’, and most intriguingly has an inner mischievousness and trickster side that is hidden beneath their apparent lack of humour and tendency to take everything completely seriously. Shea is highly protective and can flare up unexpectedly with fury when their companions are in danger, though they lack any sense of self-preservation—often letting themselves take the hits if it means their friends and allies can get away unhurt.
  • Lineage: The Púcaí; the shapeshifting spirits of Celtic legend. Also has connections to changelings given the circumstances surrounding their birth, along with similarities to most fae.
  • Divine Connection:
    • Shapeshifting: As a changeling and púca, Shea is capable of transforming themselves into the guise of almost any other living creature; though they're unfortunately identifiable by their constantly dark coat of fur or hair and have a distinctly yellowish tinge to their eyes that reflect their inhuman nature. Shea is most closely attuned to catlike shapes, ranging from housecats to wild big cats—and in this regard they can also partially transform themselves (such as gaining teeth, nightvision, and claws) for use in combat or general utility. However, being cut or pierced with steel weapons or objects both cancels out Shea's transformation abilities and severely injures them, and their shapeshifting may only return once they've sufficiently healed up (even then they might be sluggish and painful in their morphing until they've fully recovered). Though Shea's "default" has been hexed to be that of an approximate humanoid, their actual true form is that of a furred goblin-like creature—agile as a lemur yet diminutive and lacking in strength. As it stands, however, Shea is completely unable to access this form.
  • Backstory: Born to faerie parentage in Ireland, Shea was unknowingly swapped with a human baby as an unwitting changeling, thus being raised as a relatively ordinary human and remaining completely unaware of their supernatural origins. Even so they possessed an inherent feeling of alienation from both their peers and (adopted) parents, not participating in sports despite their inherent athletic ability and finding more joy in nursing unwanted animals and confusing the living daylights out of strangers who visited their hometown. Over time, Shea's penchant for unnerving their peers drew them into a state of isolation and depression, believing that they simply couldn't understand how other people thought on a fundamental level. Even after being invited to attend the Academy, Shea remains unknowing of their true nature and abilities, though they feel a strange connection forming with the place even before arriving...
  • Misc: Has adopted a (rather worrying) number of stray cats over time, though they insist they just ‘follow me around’. Shea cannot hide their doting nature over them, and has practically begged on hands and knees for their precious pets to be allowed with them in attendance to the school. Though to what extent they have no idea.

SCION! :D

(No, really, this is a Scion character. I just adapted her to this.)

  • Name: Juliana Dengra
  • Age: 15
  • Appearance: A tall Hispanic girl with tan skin, long black hair pulled into a braid, and hazel eyes. Usually wears a red shirt, loose black pants, and red sneakers.
  • Personality: As much as Juliana dislikes her dad, she takes after him in a lot of ways. For starters, she's a trickster, who finds strange delight in tweaking the nose of anyone and everyone. She's a schemer, who weaves grandiose plans and watches with glee as they come to fruition. And she's a natural deceiver, who hides her trickery under a stoic disposition. That's not to say she doesn't have morals—she's willing to help others get what they want, and she does her best to avoid harming people—or that she's incapable of doing anything noble. It's just that her way of doing it is different from other people's.
    • She also likes cats. So, y'know. There's that.
  • Lineage: She is the daughter of the Aztec god Tezcatlipoca. They don't get along, mostly because he didn't stick around to actually, y'know, help raise her. There's also the fact that, given how the Teotl (which is how the Mexihcah referred to their gods) subsist on human sacrifice, most of the other gods don't really trust them or anyone who claims their lineage, which frustrates Juliana to no end.
  • Divine Connection:
    • Deception: Juliana's talent for lies cannot be denied. For one hour, she can slough off her identity and vanish. She is not literally invisible—instead, people's minds simply fail to process any distinguishing information about her. While some people can see through it, it takes a lot of effort, and even then, they can't make out any identifying features.
    • Cats: This one is rather simple. All cats are Juliana's friends, and she can talk to them, giving them orders. The only cats she can understand in kind are jaguars, but those are relatively rare, so she usually has to make do with regular housecats.
    • Mirror: A shard of black obsidian mirror, given to Juliana by her father as a belated reconciliation gift. By peering into it, she can see anywhere in the world, effectively making it Google Earth with video instead of pictures.
  • Backstory: Born in Mexico, Juliana's family immigrated to the US when she was six years old. The process was surprisingly fast, almost as though someone was speeding things along, and the family lived in Arizona from then on. When she was nine, Juliana noticed that even though she lived with a larger family than most—her mother, grandmother, aunt, and cousins all lived under the same roof—she didn't have a father. When she asked, her mother told her that her father had left them before she was born, which infuriated the family to the point where they don't talk about him anymore. Since then, Juliana avoided asking about her father, instead spending her time on poetry, guitar, soccer, anything that caught her eye really.
    • When she was thirteen, she met a stray cat on the road. Taking pity on it, she gave it some food, and it followed her home. She spent two years bonding with this cat, even though it never seemed to stick around for long. When she was fifteen, however, she received a surprise in the mail—a scholarship for Solomon Academy. "About time," said the cat, and she turned in surprise to see a man decked out in bright featherwork and quilted armor, a wry smile on his face.
    • Lots of screaming, an explanation, many tears, awkward apologies, and a near-fatal attack with a spatula later (don't ask), Juliana was off to the academy.
  • Misc: Potential Plot Hook: In ye olde days, the Teotl fueled their powers with human sacrifices. Nowadays, no one does that anymore because what the fuck, so the Teotl have lost most of their power. All of them are reaching out to the few Lineages they have to...pretty much beg for just a little bit of blood. Tezcatlipoca's too proud to resort to begging, but that might change as more and more of his power slips away...

"Kept me waiting, haven’t you? Tch. No matter. Dawdle all you’d like. In the end, your defeat remains inevitable."

  • Name: Rebecca Raleigh
  • Age: 15
  • Appearance: Relatively tall for her age, at 5’9”, with a fairly fit physique, light skin, and blonde hair coming down to her shoulders. Tends to be splotched with dirt and grime.
  • Personality: Optimistic and with a strong sense of morality, Rebecca’s energetic and friendly personality disguises surprisingly low self-esteem and a tendency to blame herself whenever anything goes wrong.
  • Lineage: Daughter of Cloacina “the Cleanser”, patron goddess of the Roman sewer system, the Cloaca Maxima.
  • Divine Connection:
    • Dirt Magnet: Rebecca naturally attracts dirt and grime to herself as a means of “cleansing” her surroundings. Any room she enters becomes much cleaner, but she can’t keep herself clean for more than five minutes.
    • Sewer’s Wrath: When threatened, she can control and weaponize the grime she attracts, solidifying it into weapons like clubs and spikes or just throwing it at her opponent with great force.
  • Backstory: Having lost her mother in a (staged) accident when she was two years old, Rebecca nonetheless grew up with a kind and caring father who instilled her with a strong sense of justice. On the other hand, she was never able to get along with her peers, who would often tease her for her inability to stay clean despite her best efforts, and ended up inspiring her low self-esteem. She has no idea how or why she got a scholarship to Solomon Academy, but she plans to redouble her efforts to make friends in this new environment.
  • Misc:
    • Has a persistent body odor problem, which she blames on either puberty or her divine lineage, depending on the day.
    • Is quite fond of rats, but her dad would never let her get one as a pet.

  • Name: Móirín Doherty Irish
  • Age: 16
  • Appearance: Móirín is a pale if tall woman with already greyed hair and near permanently narrowed green eyes. They don't quite match, because one, her almost always obscured left eye, is a glass implant. She plainly did not have an eye there before. Her right hand is similarly discolored because its a prosthetic. Her arm works well enough and she can hold objects with it, but she has to manually adjust the prosthetic hand. While nature took there, she has 11 functional eyes in total. Just, ten of them happen to be on her left arm. She also has elongated (and pierced) ears that lead not a few people to call her 'elf' at least once and usually for the last time.
  • Personality: Móirín is bullheaded and has a long memory. She'll fight tooth and nail for things that she doesn't really want just for the right to have them and can hold grudges for years. She still knows by name the people who took more than one gut punch to stop mocking her and yet the names of her old friends fade over time. All the same, while she has no desire to play 'mother', Móirín does have a dedication to helping others (in short, violent bursts), adventure with company, and recognition. The good kind of recognition.
  • Lineage: Móirín has a distant link to Cethlenn and Balor, the doomed chiftain of the Fomorians on the eve of the Tuatha Dé's conquest of Ireland. Generations have passed and diluted this blood but she still has the missing parts, characteristic of Fomorians and a bit of divine spark characteristic of Fomorians and Tuatha Dé.
  • Divine Connection: Móirín is the descendant of a seer and a warlord with a deadly gaze.
    • Dozen Eyes Sight: Móirín certainly knows her extra eyes exist. What she is only vaguely aware of is a sort of Combat Clairvoyance albeit only a split second prediction. And she still has to react in time.
    • Dozen Eyes Restrict: What she has long missed is a paralyzing effect on opponents that she can unleash when all 11 (working) eyes lock gazes with a target. As with her limited prophetic ability, this is only a split second effect.
    • Fomorian Style: And Móirín knows that she's stronger than average. She takes advantage of it all the time, particularly practicing on people who trouble her. This is not a split second effect.
    • Spellcasting: Móirín's style of artifice is to use crude tools and rituals to extract the essence/memories of monsters and defeated foes. So, her focuses are fetishes or, in the case of the leviathan, the sword she made from it.
      • Spell-Like Abilities:
        • Magical Tinkering
      • Infusions [Can hold 2 at once]:
        • Enhanced Weapon
        • Mind Sharpener
        • Replicate Magic Items
        • Armor of Tools
      • Spells Proper
        • Green Flame Blade [Green Flame Blade]
        • Fire Bolt [Fire Bolt]
        • Fishing line [Lightning Lure]
        • Alarm [Alarm]
        • Sea to Surface [Catapault - From water only]
        • Melting Bile [Tasha’s Caustic Brew]
  • Backstory: Móirín hardly stood out, at least not beyond always wearing at least one long sleeve and a tendency to plow straight through defensive lines in both football and American football. Aaand a slight record. No big deal. The school's just looked down on Móirín punching her peers out on school grounds. Occasionally she stole a bike to chase down some of the runners. Well, there was one time where she raced a car down a street. And streaked across campus on a dare. The worst she ever got was a weekend in jail and that's because she got caught on Friday. It was community service usually. As for her oddities, naturally, her parents did take her to the hospitable when she began to grow eyes on top of her being born with a missing hand and eye. Not only did they get nothing from that, but her family has long lost any lore about their heritage. To the point that they initially believed Móirín's scholarship to Solomon Academy is based on her sports talents.
  • Misc: Móirín does in fact have a sword. Its origins aren't mysterious and its not made of anything more special than steel. She got it for a convention and has indulged her LARPing side with it ever since. Since the Leviathan arc and a holiday party, she's acquired a montante sword partly constructed form the leviathan's hide and bones and a 'wicked looking' dirk.

  • Name: Aaron Mitchell
  • Age: 16
  • Appearance: Tall, muscular, and obviously of Mediterranean descent with his dark hair, brown eyes, and tanned skin. Aaron tries to keep himself clean shaven, but is generally scruffy.
  • Personality: Very much a soldier, Aaron is brusque and to the point. He's not stupid, especially when it comes to battle, but he is impatient and easily mislead. He lives for physical sports, especially all forms of fighting, and strives for what the Greeks call arete; essentially, a desire to be the best one can be at their craft.
  • Lineage: Aaron is the son of the Greek war god Ares. His ancestors hailed from Sparta, one of the few city-states to not view Ares in a negative light.
  • Divine Connection:
    • Warrior: Aaron is noticeably stronger, tougher, and more agile than a human. Not to the level of tossing cars around, but enough that normal humans stand virtually no chance against him in a fight. His stamina is equally superhuman, surpassing even Olympic athletes.
    • Fight Good: Aaron has natural talent for battle. He is able to use most melee and throwing weapons with proficiency even if he's never seen them before, though he's most comfortable with swords and spears. He also has an instinctive ability to find weakpoints in an enemy's defense, and a talent for martial arts, especially wrestling.
  • Backstory:
    • Aaron grew up believing that his father was a fallen soldier who'd died in Afghanistan, leaving his mother a son to remember him by. His mother had indeed been married to a man who'd died in Afghanistan, but that man was not Aaron's biological father. Aaron realized early on that he was strong, but he didn't realize how strong, until he managed to throw a baseball so hard it broke the bat.
    • When he turned 13, he received a package from his real father, containing a spear and shield of bronze, and his mother was forced to tell him the truth. Though he still respected his would-have-been step father, Aaron was also ecstatic at the prospect of his inhuman lineage.
    • Though he hopes to one day join the military, it was only natural that he'd eventually wind up at Solomon Academy.
  • Misc: As mentioned, has a well-made but mundane spear and shield. Plans to also try and get a sword at some point.

Name: Yamamoto Jirou

Age: 15

Appearance: A Japanese youth standing at 5'9 with tanned skin that takes a slight reddish hue. A pair of red four-inch horns emerge from underneath messy black hair, and amber eyes peer out behind sunglasses. Wears a hoodie to try and further hide his horns, a pair of slightly faded jeans, and sneakers.

Personality: A boisterous person who more often than not wears his heart on his sleeve. He enjoys a good scrap and is is quick to violence when riled up, but rarely holds a grudge and is fiercely loyal to his family and friends. Growing up among human civilization has tempered some of his darker Oni traits, teaching him values like empathy and mercy. Has a soft spot for cats, and is a closet D&D fan.

Lineage: Jirou is the grandson of Shuten-Dōji; Mythic Oni ruler of Mt. Oe and child of the eight-headed serpent Yamata-no-Orochi.

Divine Connection:

  • Oni Blood: Thanks to his supernatural lineage, Jirou's strength, speed and durability are greater than that of a normal human. He also has resistance to alcohol and toxins, save for those blessed by divinity.

  • Kanabo proficiency: Like all Oni, Jirou was trained to wield a Kanabo (spiked metal club) in fights.

  • Jujutsu (Black Arts): A blanket term for magic used by Yokai, ranging from illusions to hexes to curses. Jirou is not as proficient with this aspect of his divinity, mainly using it to help disguise his appearance and for simpler problems/tasks.

Backstory:

Jirou was born in Kyoto and lived there for the first two years of his life, before he and his parents immigrated to New York and opened a small bar and distillery. The family business proved to be popular with the neighborhood, and when Jirou wasn't at school (or later taking care of his younger siblings), he was found in the back helping out.

While Jirou performed well academically and wasn't regarded as a problem child by his teachers, he had a hard time making friends with his classmates, in part due to an early incident in his school career where he knocked a bully unconscious with a punch, leading to long-lasting rumors that never quite seemed to go away. So when a letter inviting him to Solomon Academy on a scholarship arrived in the mail, Jirou was all too happy to accept. Maybe this time he'll be able to meet people without toxic rumors getting in the way.

Misc:

  • While he doesn't carry around an actual Kanabo for legal reason, he makes do with a regular steel bat.

  • Aside from his parents, Jirou also grew up with his younger sister and brother, both of which are four years younger than him.

  • Jirou would later learn that the reason his parents moved to America was because they didn't want him to grow up entrenched in the world of the Yakuza, of which Shuten-Dōji was a prominent clan head. Though initially disappointed, The family left with Japan with his blessing.

Character Sheet

  • Name:Katarina Cato
  • Age: 16
  • Appearance: Daughter of Bast. Of course, usually she wears civies. She'll start wearing the costume later on, but for now she wants nothing to do with it.
  • Personality: Katarina is playful, coy, and just a bit devious. Often relaxed and poised, she delights in teasing others, often playing tricks or games to amuse herself. Of course, that's assuming she's in the mood. Said mood can be fickle, with Katarina being incredibly driven or incredibly lazy depending on how she feels that day. However, she can also become arrogant and furious if properly pushed, even going so far as to hiss and growl until she gets her way. Despite all that, she can still be rather affectionate, caring deeply for those she considers her friends and loved ones. If they're sad or hurting, she'll be the first to comfort them, and will always be there when they need her.
    • That said, she's also become rather distraught over the whole 'actually a cat' thing. Whenever she thinks about it too much, she becomes sullen and kranky, lashing out at anyone in the vicinity. She's even tried to put on a mask and shave off her own fur, only for it to grow back within minutes. She's desperate for anything that could let her live a normal life, and the only thing she's unsure of is just how far she's willing to go to get it.
  • Lineage: If it wasn't obvious by her appearance, Katarina is the child of Bast, Egyptian Goddess of cats. Avenger of wrongs and protector of the innocent, she felt that the world needed a new champion to aid those she no longer could. She came down to Earth, using her Godly powers to disguise herself as a mortal woman. Eventually she gave birth to Katarina.
    • However, she was also an asshole, as cats often are. Rather than raising her herself, she pawned her off on the first mortal woman she could find, leaving her in a basket on a doorstep. She also left a bracelet as a gift, allowing her daughter to live a normal human life until the time was right. Whenever that would be. Cats are funny that way.
  • Divine Connection:
    • Kitty Cat: Katarina has all the proportionate abilities of a cat, as befits the daughter of Bast. She's stronger than a human, but her real talents are her speed and incredible agility, always landing on her feet. Her claws can cut through solid steel, and she can scale walls that even the most skilled rock climber would have trouble with. Her hearing and smell are better than average, and her sharp yellow eyes let her see in the dark with ease.
    • Protector: On top of that, she can throw up a forcefield, protecting herself and others from harm. However, she can only create one field at a time, and it can't hold more than a few people. It will also break apart after a few strong attacks, and it'll daze her for a moment if it does.
  • Backstory: Katarina Cato was just your ordinary teenage girl. Mostly. She still had a few eccenteries. Such as licking herself when she got dirty. Or pouncing on her favorite toys. Or even giving the occasional purr when she was pleased. Okay, maybe she wasn't so ordinary. But she was still able to fit in well enough. She also wore a golden bracelet given to her by her mother when she was little. She wasn't sure why her mother made her wear it, or why she was so insistent she did. Nor did she know how to take it off. Either way, she was stuck with it, and barely give it a moment's thought.
    • At least until her 16th birthday. As she grew, so did her boldness and curiosity. She couldn't help but wonder why her mother kept making her wear it, or why nothing she did could remove it. Plus it was itchy as hell. Finally fed up, she resorted to drastic measures. She whipped out a hacksaw and went to town, cutting away until she finally managed to hack it off.
    • She immediately wished she hadn't. She felt a couple of pointed tufts growing from the top of her head, jutting out where her ears used to be. A strange growth erupted from her rear, elongating until it became a tail. Her fingers became claws, her eyes turned sharp and yellow, fur grew all over her body until there wasn't a bare patch of skin left. So on and so forth until she was fit for the petting zoo.
    • She tried to glue the bracelet back together, tried to get it to work, but to no avail. For all intents and purposes, she was a six foot walking talking kitty cat. She went to her mom for help, but she didn't know what to do. The bracelet was the help. She found her dropped on her doorstep after her own child was stillborn, the bracelet already on her. It came with instructions, telling her not to remove it until the time was right. Whenever that was. Beyond that, she didn't know what else to do.
    • Thankfully, someone did. The Academy soon showed up at their doorstep, offering a place for Katarina to belong. With nowhere else to go, she took it. All she could hope for was that they they somehow found a way for her to be normal again. Or least let her live with herself.
  • Misc: Katarina has always had a fondness for fish and poultry, even before her true heritage was revealed. Since then, she's started taking to small rodents, pouncing on them and eating them whole when no-one's looking. She's also fond of scriitches and loves being petted, even if she's embarrassed when someone actually does it. She also has a thing for catnip, though taking so much as a whiff will make her stoned as all get out. Is also terrified of dogs. For obvious reasons.

  • Name: Robin Holmsen

  • Age: 16

  • Appearance: Results may vary. Stands at just about 5'6" normally.

  • Personality: Knowing Robin, it's hard to imagine that they're descended from a trickster god. Quiet, polite, shy, nervous, they find themselves at odds with the mischievous, chaotic impulses that plague them. The times they do indulge in them, they're more light-hearted and harmless rather than malevolent or uncaring. They're surprisingly intuitive given their shyness. They're not really the bravest, rather preferring to avoid the possibility of getting into trouble at almost any cost or confronting anything directly.

  • Lineage: Way back down their family line, they're descended from Loki, the Norse trickster god.

  • Divine Connection:

    • Shapeshifting : As one might expect of someone descended from trickster god, Robin is able to change their appearance and shape into almost anything or anyone. They've never knowingly used it, often only having had minor changes in their appearance made unconsciously.

    • Intuitive Aptitude: The trickster's cunning is perhaps the ability Robin has manifested most strongly given its subtlety. They learn things extremely quickly, grasping complex systems, operations and ideas in a fraction of the time it would take anyone else, even if the knowledge seems to come out of nowhere after looking over something for a few moments.

    • Illusions: Not really a power Robin has manifested so far. They can create illusions, and even obtain invisibility. These illusions are not merely visual, as they can also be used to imitate the voices of other people and animals.

    • Escapology: It is said that when Ragnarok happened, Loki broke free of his bonds made of the entrails of his son Nari to join the fight against the Æsir alongside the jötnar. In the same vein, Robin has extraordinary skill in escaping from restraints and places.

    • Lævatein/Hævatein: The "damage twig/wounding wand" that Loki plucked/fashioned with runes at the gate of Death, said to be the only weapon capable of making Víðófnir, the rooster atop the World Tree Yggdrasil, fall to Hel's abode. This runic magic staff, which can also turn into a sword, can wound anything regardless of how tough it is with blasts of magic or slashes.  It's really just that simple. Or at least it would be if it had all of its old magic in it. Right now, the sword is just slightly sharper than a normal one, and the magic blasts mostly just cause bruising and pain.

  • Backstory: Born in America, Robin's family nevertheless traced back to Norway on their father's side of the family. Robin was raised unaware of their godly descent, only thinking their knack for learning and always just seeming to look just right was normal and natural, which it certainly could have been. A model student with a smattering of chaotic behavior on their record, Robin had never actually paid much thought to their future. Hoping to find inspiration in their family history, Robin began rifling through some old things in the attic.

    • Coming across an iron chest with 9 locks shutting it fast, Robin picked the locks, curiosity too strong to contain. Inside, a runic length of wood drew their hand towards it as if in some kind of Trance. Picking it up and looking it over, Robin found themselves whispering "Hævatein". The mystical staff or sword from the gate of Death, attributed to Loki. The resulting damage from a curious wave of the wand soon brought Robin's family's attention to their snooping though, and their divine heritage was revealed. Soon after, Robin was offered a scholarship at Solomon Academy, which they readily accepted, hoping to find a future and more about themselves in their divine heritage.

  • Misc: Robin is genderfluid.

So I have two very strong ideas for this RP but I'm finding it impossible to choose between them so I might as well ask the existing player base and GM directly. At the moment I've got:

  • A many-generations removed descendant of Hades and Persephone with powers based around the wealth of both plants and minerals. His parents on a lark put out an open invitation for paranormal entities to attend the celebration of his birth and have deduced that the immaculate couple who attended the event, given the title of godparents, hinted at granting boons to the newborn and requested that he spend each January at their realm are in fact fairies. (They aren't fae, it's Hades and Persephone)
  • A 'daughter' of Artemis, the air quotes are due to multiple reasons but the main one is that because Artemis does not have any natural children, this 'daughter' is adopted; an orphan of circumstance who escaped into the wild and ended up getting recruited by Artemis as one of her hunters after finding the child. Her powers as it were are mostly down to training rather than innate magical power.

Thoughts on which one to go for?

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

It would be interesting to see someone who was practically raised by a goddess suddenly in another environment, plus someone who focuses at fighting in range is something the class doesn't have for their missions yet. But at the end of the day please play the personality and backstory that will make for the most enjoyable writing experience.

  • Name: Kynigos of the Western Virginia
  • Age: 16
  • Appearance: Tall and thin with angular features, Kynigos has an appearance that could easily be mistaken for the typical image of an androgynous elf if it wasn't for the lack of pointed ears or otherworldly perfection. Everything about her is practical, from her uncut hair kept in a single braided ponytail coiled in on itself to her clothing; either protective and handmade hide armor or civilian clothing loose enough to not impede her movement should the need to run arise. Contrary to expectations of a 'wild child', Kyn places great importance in maintaining proper hygiene and well-kept clothing when she has the means to do so.
  • Personality: Most would consider Kynigos to be rather cold in terms of personality, stemming from her relative lack of interaction with other people and especially with other people of her age. However past that plain, blunt exterior she has a passionate drive to perfect her skills and a curiosity for any and all information to improve her lot in life. She does not hate the modern world on principle, but she has picked up a small part of her adoptive mother's disdain for how soft it has made people.
  • Lineage: A 'daughter' of Artemis, by way of adoption.
  • Divine Connection:
    • Sworn Hunter: Kyn has been trained in the arts of archery and proper stewardship of the hunt by her adopted parent. This has mostly boiled down to skill with a bow, through a keen eye and a steady hand she seeks her target even under the harshest pressure.
    • Nature's Grace: Kynigos has trained her body to handle the rigors and requirements of even the most dangerous of hunts; she knows how to walk with only the softest noise, perch on fragile branches, pass through brushland without difficulty and lay stealthed in wait for prey. It has also given her speed and strength that while not unnatural are still surprising for someone of her age.
    • Mortal Blood: However despite all this, Kynigos is merely a mortal that has been trained by Artemis and not a proper demigod by relation of blood. Compared to those with a true lineage, she is very fragile and bears no outright magical abilities.
  • Backstory: Born in Athens, West Virginia to a caring but oh so mundane single parent, Kynigos was raised until the age of six which is when her life changed from it's projected path of normalcy. There was a fire, Kynigos remembers that much, it consumed any life and parentage she knew and in the chaos she fled into the woods. A lot can happen in the woods, especially when someone with only a six year old's sense of danger wishes in their heart and words for sanctuary and it's frankly astonishing that Artemis was the first on the scene and that she was in a good enough mood to accept this desperate plea. Kynigos transacted the hunter's oath (in the process discarding her old name) and began the path of training under the watchful eye of her new divine parent. The next ten years were rough, while Artemis did deliver the promised training, most of the time survival came down to Kyn striking out on her own initiative to hunt, forage and rarely return to civilization for that she could not obtain or do on her own. All in preparation for the greatest trial her adopted mother could give; to join the hunt against the monsters that threaten both man and nature.
  • Misc: There are only two things that outright scare Kyn: The concept of hubris and her mother's nemesis, Aphrodite.

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

Are invites still open? I had an idea for an RP involving Chinese mythology, specifically the descendant of a god who has some really weird stuff going on (rainbow vomit, a divine arsenal, rapid aging and de-aging).

  • Name: Lin Jun Sheng

  • Age: 16

  • Appearance: A side-effect of Ne Zha’s eternally boyish and youthful constitution means that despite being sixteen years old, Jun Sheng is normally 4ft 4 inches tall with the appearance of a nine year-old child. When in combat or when exerting himself, he ages rapidly up to his actual age, standing at 5ft 2 inches tall with his hair lengthening till his midriff. As such, he wears incredibly baggy clothes with sleeves and pants legs rolled up as much as possible so that he can remain at least partially dressed when he ages up (though the success rate is less than stellar, as evidenced by the many burst and burnt outfits left in his wake). A couple of spare hair ties and candies are always kept in his back pockets, along with a spare hair band.

  • Personality: When in his nine year old form, Jun Sheng is bratty, entitled and petulant. With a sweet tooth, short attention span and even shorter temper, he is prone to temper tantrums when he doesn’t get what he wants. When growing up to his actual age, he finds himself apologising for the actions of his younger self, behaving a lot more ‘seriously’ and edgily as a result of crippling teen angst hitting him like a ton of bricks. When he ages down, he is usually embarrassed by the pretentiousness of his older self, resulting in an endless cycle of perpetual embarrassment.

  • Lineage: Very distantly descended from Ne Zha, the youthful Chinese deity of protection, justice and fire.

  • Divine Connection:

- Divine Arsenal: By expending a great deal of energy, Jun Sheng can summon an incomplete replica of Ne Zha’s Divine Arsenal, although thus far he is only capable of manifesting the Fire-tipped Spear (Huo Jian Qiang, a flaming spear with immense penetrating power) and Red Armillary Sash (Hun Tian Ling, a prehensile and abnormally tough sash that forms a mantle of flame) for a very short period. Still unable to be accessed are the Wind Fire Wheels (Tian Huo Lun, incredible speed and flight) and Universe Ring (Qian Kun Quan, powers unknown but probably defensive in nature).

- God Form (San Tou Liu Bi, lit. three heads six shoulders): As of now, Jun Sheng has extreme tolerance to heat, immunity to fire and is capable of benefiting from generally increased physical capabilities for up to a minute. His saliva and digestive juices are neon rainbows. He suffers from an intense hereditary hatred of demons and fallen agents of the divine, accompanied by an inexplicable desire to execute justice.

  • Backstory: Jun Sheng’s family, the Lin Clan, have always known that the power of Ne Zha resides within their family. But unlike the days of yore, where this power would be celebrated and touted widely, in the modern era the Lin Clan (owners of the international megacorporation, Lin Hydroelectrics) treat it as an embarrassing family secret that crops up every generation or two. Hidden away in the rural family estate since his powers were realised due to his slow aging, Jun Sheng lived with the only other member of the Lin Clan to truly possess Ne Zha’s blood, his grandmother. Learning to control his powers the best he could in the remote countryside, Jun Sheng constantly sought to better himself in his studies and ability to control Ne Zha’s blood in the hopes of impressing his parents, who visited only once a year. Unfortunately, when he first managed to manifest the Fire-tipped spear, he burnt down the estate, killing his grandmother. Jun Sheng found himself face-to-face with his grieving parents at the funeral, who blamed him and his cursed blood for her death. In his grandmother’s will, Jun Sheng found himself left with what remained of her private assets (not unsizeable) and a copy of the family seal. Aimless and without a goal, Jun Sheng wondered what would happen to him until a strange letter arrived in the mail inviting him to Solomon Academy. With nothing left to lose and no one to say goodbye to, Jun Sheng packed up his bags and stowed away on a boat to an uncertain future.

  • Misc:
- He really likes braised pig trotters in black vinegar when older, but hates it when younger.

- It took him a few months to reach Solomon Academy, due to his inability to legally travel anywhere and a bunch of encounters with various problems along the way that slowed him down.
