It's very common for fandoms to come up with their own facts that either aren't supported or confirmed by the show. That's usually where fanon steps in. If so, it might be a fanon example rather than just a case of WMG.
I've found that works with active fanon sections can keep the YMMV pages under better control. It does mean that the fanon sections/sub-pages can go a bit wild instead, however.
I suppose the question is: where's the line between WMG and fanon?
If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.WMG strikes me as being tied more to Epileptic Trees.
I think YMMV pages maaaaaaay be less subject to this sort of thing... main page tropes should definitely shy away from fan theories.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand!Yes, I was just going from my experience, where it's often fanon that's in effect. But, you're right, Epileptic Trees is definitely a big one where WMG is concerned.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading. Some things are also Pop-Culture Urban Legends and Common Knowledge. Fans don't realize they're false. I scrubbed many Danny Phantom entries of Ember's fake backstory, which most fans swear is canon despite no source.
This is related to my pet peeve with The Nostalgia Critic and its related pages- namely, people interpreting jokes (often said in fairly obscure behind-the-scenes videos) as solid fact and writing entries that treat them as facts, when the series has extremely loose canon to begin with. I've been guilty of that sort of speculation in the past, but it can get jarring and I imagine it's nigh-impenetrable for casual fans.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.I think the Nightmare Fuel section on Eversion has the same problem; specifically the bullet on going back to X-1 from X-8 and how both endings reflect the state of the main character. The WMG page on the game is huge due to how the game keeps things ambiguous, so it looks like it mentions one of the many fan theories people have.
(Don't) take me home.
Scrolling through YMMV.Joker 2019, I noticed quite a few entries mentioning WMG as fact, like Thomas Wayne being Arthur's father when the only evidence is questionable at best, when WMG is, after all, guessing and without confirmation is only a theory.
Now I'm wondering how many other pages are like that, and if those references to WMGs outside the WMG page should be trimmed down.
