This IS a good thread idea, yeah.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Good idea. I’m surprised no one had made a thread like this already.
Not enough tropers make pages for fanfics and fan-comics. There are huge fandoms with almost no fic pages. You can't tell me that Attack on Titan only has two fics — An Anthem for Sheltered Bays and The French Mistake — good enough that they have pages.

That tangentially reminds me.
RWBY is technically a Web Animation, but it's still categorized under the Anime/Manga section of the Fanfiction.net and currently is the story with 15th most stories. It always amuses me.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. That's a good point. Something to keep in mind, I guess.
This is just a gut feeling.
But I think that larger more plot focused fics are more likely to get a trope page compared to fanfiction where the primary focus is romance.
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobI've definitely seen this in the Love Live franchise. There are loads of good fics, but most of them are romantic/ship fics - and there are almost no individual pages for them.
I think many tropers just don't think fics are worth troping. I used to think this until a few years ago. Tvtropes is a good place to record fics, which are a fickle medium due to many fics becoming loss or losing traction over the years. The only other major Wiki I know that covers fics is Fan Lore, but it only has pages for noteworthy fics.
Anyone else here ever think about writing fics for a fandom that has very few fics?
Lover of anime, video games, old-school Rock & Roll music, yaoi, horror, motorcycles, classic cars, trains, and historical fictionI'm literally the only active fanfic writer for some series.
I’d probably do it - but if it was a crossover. If there were only a few writers/readers for a fandom it’s probably for the best if you bring the characters/concepts into another story, to help breathe life into it.
I’ve written for tiny fandoms before. I acknowledge that they won’t get much attention, but that’s OK. The people who do read them appreciate it.
I wonder if I could get into Heathers by watching the original film. Most fan-works are based on the musical. I'm reminded of when I tried to get into Pet Shop of Horrors by watching the 1960s film... I can't get into the 1980s version now.
Speaking of small fandoms and crossovers, I've been thinking of having Regina from the Dino Crisis games be a major character in a Resident Evil fic I'm currently planning.
Lover of anime, video games, old-school Rock & Roll music, yaoi, horror, motorcycles, classic cars, trains, and historical fictionMine is just than I'm doing fic crossovers with series/franchises that aren't well known or let obscure in recent years.
I can't find any fanfics where Zelda and Link are related. It seems like a plot that writes itself.
I'm wondering if we can post fanfics on here in thread format?
Been planning a multi-crossover fic that is also a Song Fic and a Script Fic, and neither are allowed on FFN. It's best described as a jukebox musical and it's also an AU set in New York in the 1970's and 1980's (or at least a pastiche thereof) with the different characters belonging to a different Gang of Hats
Basically it's The Warriors meets Moulin Rouge!

Lover of anime, video games, old-school Rock & Roll music, yaoi, horror, motorcycles, classic cars, trains, and historical fictionAs far as I know there isn't a rule against it. I've seen people post bits and pieces in the various All Purpose threads before.
I'm not sure if its the best idea though. Traction wouldn't be that great given the lack of a dedicated user fiction section.
Might be more efficient to post on either a forum with a dedicated writing section, or just upload it on FFN or AO 3 and post a link in the relevant thread here.
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobI had a really lovely beta reader, but he's gone MIA sadly, and I've been kind of in a rut since. Don't wanna post without having somebody else look at the chapters first, but I also feel wrong continuing writing the stories before I've posted.
I know I should just edit and post and get on with my life, but it still sucks to be without that second pair of eyes.
Why do some writers on AO3 make their stories private to only registered users? I don't get decreasing your audience like that, especially when stories were originally public.
Registered users are probably less likely to post random troll comments, or read it from outside the fanfic sphere and not understand it or attack the author, even (If it gets shared on some message board, for example). I don't do it myself but I think those are the main reasons.
Oh cool, a general fanfics thread. Feels like a good place to ask a QUESTION. Bit of a weird one, but bear with me. :V
I know a lot of folks have opinions about fanfics taking a Darker and Edgier tone compared to their source material - one of those things that's heavily subject to Sturgeon's Law but can be done well. But what about humour fics that are slightly more... I wanna say raunchy than canon? Not, like, Rule 34 fics, but at least more suggestive without focusing solely on that aspect. It feels like you don't hear much about fics that are merely 'more suggestive than canon', it's always fics that go straight into outright porn. Am I making any sense right now? I genuinely don't know. :V
"If you think like a child, you will do a child's work."I'm pretty sure AO3 allows the option for only registered users to comment.

hello, i am new to the world of fanfic and want to know what is a good place to Post fics at? i finally figured out how to publish in Fanfiction.net, but i was wondering if theres any better places to Post the Thing.
I noticed that the fanfiction subforum lacked a more general thread for discussions that don't really require a full thread.
Or even just people wanting to share something they've recently read that doesn't have a fandom specific thread.
