While the outbreak started around New Year's Day (12/31), it's picking up steam around the Asia-Pacific region especially since Mainland Chinese people tend to travel a lot.
For reference, the BNO Newsroom twitter has a special feed for any info on the coronavirus:

The WHO has page about COVID-19 and any other concerns people may have. I suggest peeps go to the Q&A page to check for official details.

They did not say that. They said that they used to think that. There is no evidence that they ever actually said that.

Alright, lets move on.
Optimism is a duty.A couple of weeks ago my nose was dripping and I felt slightly tired, so, since in the upcoming days I had to get to a wine- and beer-tasting event (long story), I decided to test for covid.
Lo and behold, the swab turned positive. So I isolated for a few days, ate alone and wore a mask at home when I had to interact with my parents, opened all windows most of the time (thank you climate change) and trashed the used tissues and masks in a plastic bag I kept on the balcony. Besides taking some medicines and drinking more water, I didn't do anything special: I wasn't too worried since both me and my parents are double-boosted which includes the bivalent vaccine. A week later I took another swab, it was negative so I kept the mask on for a couple days more while going out and then managed to live my life as usual. Honestly what I was supposed to do more than that, other than avoid going to a place full of drinking and eating people while sick?
A couple days ago I also read the Facebook status of an acquaintance who lives in Japan since a few years, she too caught it for the first time. I almost wanted to remark that wanting to wear a mask everywhere forever doesn't really change things that much (she works in the restaurant industry), but then I decided that there was no point in being mean and just wished her well. Since she's just a person I vaguely knew but not much more than that.
"Effective Altruism" is just another bunch of horsesh*t.Sounds to me a like you took all the measures you’re meant to while having something like COVID.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranYeah, sounds fine to me. Not sure if you even need to throw away tissues and stuff separately.
Optimism is a duty.So is there any news on the status of the pandemic? I don't seem to hear anything about it these days. The only times I've noticed are a recent letter informing me that we are still dealing with Covid in the organization where I live, and Yahtzee's visit to GDC 2023, where everyone is wearing masks. Otherwise, you'd be forgiven for thinking that nothing is going on any more.
Incidentally, the letter mentions that Covid will now be treated the same as NORO and influenza. Not sure what that means, exactly.

Optimism is a duty.Yeah my point was that on one hand it's not that difficult to be sensible about it, and on the other for some people it's not and will never be enough, while screeching that nobody cares anymore and that everyone is ableist or something. Well what are we supposed to do? Nobody wants to mask up, avoid others and test every single day of their lives in perpetuity, and immuno-compromised people always existed and will always exist (and sadly die for preventable stuff). It's not like we can ask Mr. Beast to buy a new immune system for them.
"Effective Altruism" is just another bunch of horsesh*t.Why Mr Beast? I've heard Legal Eagle talk about his assassin youtube video, but I have no idea who he is.
Optimism is a duty.Mr. Beast is a Youtuber who has made his fame by giving away ridiculous amounts of money and viralizing the process.
I always wondered how the hell he even has that much money to give away in the first place. I wonder cause I barely know who he is.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order. He's probably just rich and generous. Not all millionaires are greedy, after all.
Optimism is a duty.He makes his money from his viral videos. Tens, maybe hundreds, of millions of people watch them, so he gets sponsors, and those sponsors pay a pretty mint to get to be seen by so many people. He has perfected the concept of monetizing philantropy.
Japan dropped COVID-19 testing measures for travelers going in from China.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"I guess that means the pandemic is over for the US as well now.
Optimism is a duty. The public health emergency is still in effect until May. Only the national emergency was ended.

Disgusted, but not surprisedWhat's the difference?
Optimism is a duty. They each involve different sets of emergency measures. As the article itself notes, ending the national emergency removes waivers for federal health programs.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI still can't believe how much years we lost from the Pandemic.
I was in highschool when COVID hit.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.I got some kind of stomach flu this week- been sick since Monday. Probably the norovirus that's going around.
Be careful out there, folks. Just because COVID is "done" (big quotation marks) doesn't mean there isn't other stuff that can really wreck you.
Yeah, like gallstones. Like taking a wrecking ball to the upper intestines.
Optimism is a duty.A new COVID-19 strain called XBB.1.116 (Arcturus) is showing up. Dad told me to wear a mask when I get to a crowded place/vehicle in Singapore.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"I think using a mask in crowded and enclosed situations is just general good practice at this point, even without new variants or taking into account vaccination status. I still use mine on the bus and in stores, and still try to go at off-peak times.
Right now, the crowds aren't that huge around here... Except in the morning. But that kinda depends.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"
They literally said those repercussions should be execution by police. That is the point we are arguing about.
Optimism is a duty.
