There's definitely a trope in the way Samantha Reed Smith's character is girlied up and put in that very feminine bluue dress - showing the lead female character is "safe" and "just a normal girl" through feminization and adherence to traditional gender roles. The Breakfast Club also makes the tough girl "safe" by dressing her up.
