Deliverer of Chaos

Alright, this is my fourth attempt at starting an RP here, so let's hope THIS one gets off the ground!

Alright, for the Star Trek side of things in this RP, the year is 2399 - the year that the upcoming Star Trek: Picard show is set in, albeit maybe not following EXACTLY what happens in that show. The Alpha and Beta Quadrants are in a state of unease. Sure, the United Federation of Planets and Klingon Empire are still allies, and have been joined in that alliance by the now-democratic Cardassian Union... but that doesn't mean that all is well. The destruction of Romulus by the Hobus Hypernova 12 years earlier has caused the Romulan Star Empire to fracture, Yugoslavia-style, and has left an enormous power vacuum in its wake. And then, there are whispers. Whispers that the Borg might be returning...

For the Star Wars side, it's 7 ABY, and things aren't much better. Why? Well... because it's a slightly alternate timeline. The Rebel Alliance still won the Battle of Endor, destroying both the Executor and the second Death Star... but Palpatine deliberately let the Rebels believe that he was on the Death Star, while in reality, he remained on Coruscant the entire time, only revealing this to the galaxy after the battle was over. So the Empire may have been weakened... but the Alliance isn't doing so hot, either. The Battle of Endor was a costly one, and while their victory certainly gave the Alliance some much-needed relief, it's also forced Palpatine and the rest of the Empire to really take the Rebels seriously, making them step up their games, forcing the Rebels to either retreat to worlds they had already secured, like Mon Cala and Chandrila, or to seek new allies in the Unknown Regions.

Now, however, things that no one in either galaxy could have predicted are in motion. Deep in the Beta Quadrant, a Federation exploratory fleet is surveying a mysterious artifact, seemingly hundreds of thousands of years old. Similar to an Iconian gateway, but over thirty kilometers wide. And in the Unknown Regions of the galaxy far, far away, another, identical artifact has been found by Rebel scouts...

Now, for this RP, we'll have characters that are part of "light-side", "dark-side", or "gray" factions.

For the light side, we have the...

  • United Federation of Planets
  • Klingon Empire
  • Cardassian Union
  • Rebel Alliance

For the dark side, we have the...

  • Galactic Empire
  • Various Romulan remnant factions

And of course, for gray, we have smugglers, bounty hunters, mercenaries, wanderers, and outlaws.

Now, for the vessels we're crewing, since the characters here are all going to be OC's (canon characters will be controlled by me, as the DM):

Federation characters:

Federation characters will be the crew of the USS Heimdall, a 1.5 kilometer-long Jupiter-class starship: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/startrek/images/8/8d/Jupiter_class.png/revision/latest?cb=20140415215045

Klingon characters:

Klingon characters will serve on the IKS Qugh'tar, a 1.2 kilometer-long Bortasqu-class starship: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/startrek/images/a/ab/Bortas1.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20130327173148

Cardassian characters:

Cardassian character will be the crew of the CUV Ghemor - a 1.23 kilometer-long Damar-class starship: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/ktarnfleet/images/3/30/CUV_Tain.png/revision/latest?cb=20181231222805

Rebel characters:

Rebel characters will be assigned to the MC 80 Mon Cal Cruiser, the RAS Alderaan: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/9/94/MCLiberty.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20070104001953

Romulan and Imperial characters, on the other hand... I envisioned as being constantly shuffling around from ship to ship, base to base, and the like. And of course, "gray" characters will have their own agendas, with no such assignments handed to them.

A few more things: - I will allow players to have multiple characters, but limit them to one per faction (one Federation, one Klingon, one Rebel, etc.). And they should at least have different roles within each faction (don't want the same guy playing the commander of all four "light-side" ships now, do we?).

- "Custom" or "Homebrew" races are allowed... provided they fit their respective settings. Simply making an expy of a race from another sci-fi work will be frowned upon, as will races that clearly don't fit Star Trek or Star Wars.

And finally, the character template:

I am! I am!

  • Name: Oeya Clažinote
  • Species: Twi'lek
  • Age: 23
  • Sex: Female
  • Rank: Padawan
  • Affiliation: Rebel Alliance
  • Occupation: Navigator
  • Appearance: 5'10", of an athletic build. Wears silka beads across her lekku in place of a Padawan braid. Possesses a vestigial third lek tucked between her primary, fully grown lekku—which is of extreme sensitivity due to its partially formed nature. Wears the traditional airy and gilded clothes of the Laži clan, albeit adapted to be more modest and practical for universal standards.
  • Personality: A serene, lighthearted and gentle figure who is genuinely excited to simply be exploring the stars. Oeya prides her ethics above everything else, and is adamant in her dislike of unnecessary violence or tensions—promoting a mindset of peace and kindness from relatively civil disputes even to the battlefield. Even in the heat of battle when she is pressured to act violently or for the benefit of others who need to be protected, she is sympathetic and reluctant to hurt her enemies, and habitually whispers prayers and devoted chants under her breath to comfort those whom she has slain. Despite this, she is open-minded by nature and is rarely downtrodden by failure—approaching her life with a spring in her step and an eagerness to help others from any background or circumstance. Her sense of selflessness is in fact so strong that she even ends up neglecting her own time and personal goals if she feels someone is in need—which can sometimes come across as being too trusting, naïve and self-destructive by others. Even though she does not fully consider herself to be a Jedi at heart, Oeya nonetheless admires their broader ideals and aims to present herself as best as she possibly can—an empath and a peacemaker, unyielding even in the face of overwhelming odds.
  • Backstory:
    • Oeyac'laži (who would later separate her name) was born to the relatively enigmatic Laži clan on Ryloth, who resided remotely and in secrecy during the Empire's occupation. Eventually proving to be a notable force-sensitive as she grew up, Oeya became motivated by her extreme sensory abilities and (especially upon witnessing the occupation of her homeworld) attained the desire to halt the rampant cruelty and oppression that was around her. Eventually joining the Free Ryloth movement for a brief tenure in an effort to satiate this desire, Oeya learned of rumours surrounding a surviving ex-Jedi situated offworld, and soon diverted her attention towards what would a much more ambitious and risky plan—to request to train under this supposed ex-Jedi, and gain the skills and abilities necessary so as to travel the stars and keep the peace on a much grander scale.
    • Excited by this possibility, Oeya left Ryloth at the age of 19 and began her search for the unknown ex-Jedi—eventually locating him on a small, ice-coated world as an old and weary Togrutan who had seemed to have chosen life as a hermit living in complete solitude. After persistently expressing her desires to develop her natural connection with The Force and to promote the similar ideals of the Jedi, he eventually relented after a brief period of reluctance and began to train her in the ways he could recall—which unfortunately ceased much quicker than she had hoped, as he had become too frail and mentally sick to continue teaching her. With his death on the horizon and her being the only other person he knew for miles, the Jedi passed on his lightsaber to her and encouraged her to follow the ways of The Light Side of The Force—to promote peace and unity as he had once had and to help continue the Jedi legacy even despite the then overwhelming forces of the Empire.
    • Encouraged by this, Oeya began to hop from world to world whilst staying hidden from the Empire's watch, and eventually joined the Rebel Alliance upon realising the practicality of it in the long run (as well as their general alignment with her goals). Becoming skilled as a general ship navigator as well as a ground combatant, (the former career suited her peaceful nature better than she could readily admit), Oeya has now been assigned to the Alderaan for her particular skillset—still as eager and wide-eyed as she was when she first left Ryloth.
  • Abilities:
    • Force-Sensitive: Oeya has a natural affinity towards the all-encompassing energy field known as The Force, and is especially skilled with abilities regarding sensing her immediate environment to an incredibly precise extent (if not limited somewhat in range). In addition, she possesses the ability to use the common telekinetic powers wielded by Force-users, though she notably struggles with larger displays—instead focusing more on precise and utilitarian applications (for instance in fixing or breaking otherwise fragile technologies, or carrying small objects with her with incredible accuracy). Oeya can also use The Force to passively bolster her physical abilities and athleticism, however her lack of proper experience in doing so means she is much clumsier in comparison to the Jedi of old. Even so, she has a handful of specialties that have been awoken due to her training, which are as follows:
      • Fracture: A derivative of the uncommon Shatterpoint ability, which allows Oeya to ‘feel out’ an object or surface using her sensory abilities and accurately locate certain ‘fracture points’ within them—which with a surgical application of The Force, she can then split apart in order to cause the object or surface to shatter into shards. This ability is entirely physical in nature, and does not work against living creatures or organic materials—and would require her to carefully study the object or surface for a fairly long time before she can even begin to shatter it. She is hoping to refine this ability so as to be able to disarm her foes safely and quickly, though she is uncertain as to how she would do so from a distance.
      • Commune: Part of her sensory capabilities is her intense empathic connection with all manner of living creatures. While she can indeed sense dormant emotions in sapient lifeforms to a certain extent, this ability is most useful in regards to animals or other non-sapient creatures—to which she can effectively communicate empathically with them in order to tame, calm, or direct them. This (like her Fracture ability) requires close proximity to her target in order for it to be effective, and in regards to creatures of equal mental standing or significant mental defenses she can be rendered ineffective. Regardless, it lets her quickly identify the immediate intent of many an uncertain figure, and has proven to be useful in differentiating between potential friends and foes. Unfortunately, this ability seems to ‘short out’ in crowds.
      • Healing: Through the tactile application of her own lifeforce, Oeya can heal superficial wounds or damages in organic life as well as rejuvenate their energy—though it saps her own to an equal extent and cannot be used to fix dire injuries. It is most useful in stopping one of her allies from bleeding out, as it tends to stop completely past flesh-level. Ultimately, it's her least developed application of The Force and drains her energy rapidly—a period of rest and meditation being the only way she can effectively recover from the effects of overusing it.
  • Equipment:
    • Silka beads (which are worn across her lekku), to both show tribute to her master and to signify her status as a Padawan.
    • Her master's battered, but nonetheless functional blue lightsaber—the wear on its grip and the burn marks across its form indicative of its history and heavy use in battle.
    • Basic amenities (she follows a nomadic lifestyle, so she has little personal possessions) and a handful of credits to her name—which have been earned through a series of odd jobs she has taken in her brief period of planet-hopping. Hopefully working on a Rebel vessel will provide a bit more of a consistent payment.

  • Name:Thrussk Vook
  • Species:Trandoshan
  • Age:28
  • Sex:Male
  • Rank:None.
  • Affiliation:Neutral(Leaning with the Rebels)
  • Occupation:Mercenary
  • Appearance:Normal outfit, and with his combat armor. 7'0, with yellow colored scales and orange eyes.
  • Personality: Thrussk, surprisingly for a Trandoshan, is rather affable himself, often showing respect to those that are on his side, willing to help them out and is devoted to the Scorekeeper himself, believing she is the most sacred deity of the galaxy, praying to her before any hunt or battle. Despite this though, he is extremely distrustful of Wookiees and would prefer to give them a wide berth if they're not his target. He can also be rather bloodthirsty during combat, often finishing off his targets brutally with his weapons, before moving onto another. Despite this brutality, he dislikes hunting or hurting people he sees not worthy of the hunt, such as civilians, or people who can't defend themselves, due to believing that someone like them can't grant favor with the scorekeeper, and prefers dealing with dangerous hunts that truly interest the scorekeeper...like the empire.
  • Backstory:Born on Trandosha, Thrussk like many other trandoshans seeked a dangerous life by starting as a hunter of dangerous beasts, often taking contracts by clients to deal with a dangerous animal, or with a infestation. While they were worthy prey who granted him plenty of Jagannath points, he was slowly starting to feel displeased, as he felt he wasn't pleasing the Scorekeeper well enough. After some consideration, he then moved on to become a hired mercenary, often being paid to track down dangerous criminals and eliminate them, he felt pleased for a while, due to many sentient prey giving more points than animals. He worked for the Zann Consortium for a few weeks, despite the fact those few weeks were a time he racked up plenty of points, he felt disappointed at the fact that most of the works he was hired ended up doing things was dishonorable in his eyes, such as racketeering a bunch of merchants who have no chance to defend themselves, black market business and so on. He decided to leave them once his contract was done. He started to feel anger as he felt that the criminals he was hunting before barely defended themselves and didn't fight against him, the animals he hunted weren't as worthy as sentient prey. How could he please the scorekeeper like this?

  • Eventually, he gained a idea. Right now the Empire was quite possibly the most numerous and powerful entity in the galaxy. With trained soldiers who would actually fight him instead of running like cowards. They must be the answer. Thrussk then decided to lend his service as a mercenary to the Rebel Alliance, as they were fighting against something far more powerful and numerous than themselves, and that could grant him a lot of jagannath points. He often worked with the ground troops of the Alliance Military, serving as a guide in dangerous planets with wildlife he has knowledge of, and fighting alongside the rebel soldiers against the Empire. While the pay was a bonus to restock his weapons, he admitted to them that fighting alongside them to please his goddess was more of a priority. 6 months later, he moved to the Alderaan where he was told to wait for any further mission and to wait there in the meanwhile.

  • Abilities:
    • Trandoshan Strenght: While not comparable to a Wookiee, Thrussk is still dangerous and powerful in melee combat, along with his sharp claws being able to cut through flesh.
    • Trandoshan Regeneration: Trandoshans are known for their regeneration of wounds, being able to heal faster than a human being. They are also known to regenerate lost limbs, though they lose this ability once they reach their middle ages. This process is usually long, taking 1 or 2 months for the lost limb to regenerate back to normal.

  • Equipment:
    • ACP Repeater: A medium range blaster often favored by trandoshan mercenaries.
    • ACP Array Gun: A short range shotgun, it is more suited for close quarters combat where extreme blast force was needed.
    • Knuckle plate Vibroblade: Thrussk's armor contains a hidden vibroblade he can eject from his left gauntlet, while it doesn't work as well for melee combat against something like a vibrosword or lightsaber, it still is a dangerous weapon that can pierce through light or medium armor and droids which don't have a strong armor plating.

  • Name: Gnarot Throop
  • Species: Ferengi
  • Age: 21, or his species' equivalent of it
  • Sex: Male
  • Rank: Ensign
  • Affiliation: United Federation
  • Occupation: Anthropologist
  • Appearance: This'll do. 4'9'', with average fitness for an officer.
  • Personality: To the average observer, Gnarot is almost a study in contradictions. Most days he seems like a steadfast, idealistic officer of Starfleet, eager to explore the galaxy, build bridges between peoples and cultures, and fight for what's right for the good of the whole. Other times he seems to embody the most annoying stereotypes of his race- a two-bit hustler always working an angle, looking for a quick buck, and ducking under the table when the going gets tough. He often switches between these fronts depending on who he's talking to, causing some of his colleagues to peg him as a facile opportunist. Beneath it all, however, Gnarot has a legitimate curiosity and excitement about the galaxy at large and does genuinely want to make friends and be liked, even respected. The problem is that he's never been sure who he wants that respect from- the world and people he came from, or the larger galaxy he's ventured into...
  • Backstory:
    • Growing up in a small company town in the Ferenginar heartland, Gnarot spent his childhood years entrenched in the culture of his people. That culture had come a long way under the rule of Grand Nagus Rom, but his family were staunch traditionalists who made certain that their boy would grow up the 'right way'. So he did his weekly chores around the house, he prayed nightly to the Blessed Exchequer, and he studied hard in reading, writing and economics...and yet, he was often found gazing out the nearest window, his mind on other things. His parents generally agreed it was his uncle's fault. Whenever he dropped by, Uncle Lunteel often regaled Gnarot with his adventures as a privateer out in the wild black yonder, reaping rewards through both cunning and brute force. Perhaps this was why young Gnarot was constantly daydreaming of going on adventures beyond Ferenginar, on mystical faraway worlds where the streets were paved with latinum, the sun was always shining through the rain, and beautiful alien women all worked jobs, fully clothed! As he grew up, those dreams of wild adventure settled into solid ambitions: he wanted nothing more than to become an officer of Starfleet, and march in the footsteps of the famous son of the Grand Nagus.
    • His parents didn't exactly approve, and by means both gentle and harsh they tried to keep him on the road to being a successful businessman. Dreading the disapproval of his parents, Gnarot acquiesced, but it soon became clear that even trying his hardest, he barely scraped by on any of the business courses. People were starting to whisper that he didn't have the lobes for business, which only made his parents push harder. Finally, using everything he'd learned in sales pitching class, Gnarot was able to convince his parents that joining Starfleet WOULD be profitable for him. With his father's reluctant blessing, Gnarot enlisted at Starfleet academy, majoring in Anthropology with a minor in Engineering. His career got off to a rocky start, as his well-meaning fascination with the many races and cultures present- particularly the female individuals -was viewed through a Ferengi lens and wound up making him unpopular among his classmates for a while. Over time, he taught himself to mimic the mannerisms and affections of his peers, adjusting his behaviour to win over and parley between the social groups. As far as academics went, his daydreaming continued to hamper his work ethic, even as he threw himself into the art of studying other races and technologies. In the end, he earned a mark almost above the bare minimum to graduate, but it was a point of pride for him nonetheless. His parents were there on the day of the graduation- his mother less than comfortable wearing a dress -and they smiled and congratulated him on his success. Even so, Gnarot couldn't shake the feeling that his parents were only putting on an act, concealing their disapproval over his career choice, not to mention the fact that he only just managed to get that career. Now, Gnarot has got himself a position onboard the Heimdall, and eagerly awaits a spot on an Observer Team. Once he finally gets to study a planet himself, his purpose is twofold: make Starfleet proud by learning everything there is to learn about unknown alien races...and make his family proud by learning how to make bank off those races.
  • Abilities:
    • Ferengi Physiology: While your typical Ferengi specimen isn't much for strength, speed or stamina, the body's best traits are focused around the head. Gnarots' lumpy brain cannot be read by any known telepathic race, though a talented mind-reader would be able to pick up on dangerous and deceptive intent, and memories can be transferred through touch-telepathy. His huge ears- or 'lobes' as Ferengi refer to them -are incredibly sensitive, allowing him to measure the decibel level of any sound, pick up on changes to atmosphere and altitude, and distinguish a speaker's sex and species even through distortion and interference. This sensitivity also makes touching them give off...pleasing sensations for Gnarot. However, it has its drawbacks, as injuries become that much more painful, and certain infections become that much more fatal.
    • Business Acumen: While Gnarot isn't quite a model businessman, you don't get through the education system on Ferenginar without picking up a certain degree of business savvy. He can speak the lingo, crunch the numbers, communicate ideas with clarity, and see how certain actions and decisions can have a greater impact down the road. He's also just about managed to memorise all 285 Rules of Acquisition and hopes to make both Starfleet and Parents proud by applying them to all possible areas of his life.
    • Anthropological Insight: Gnarot has a respectable level of knowledge on the various civilisations of his galaxy, along with knowledge of Hodgkin's Law, Richter's scale, and other theories on the patterns of cultural development. Using that knowledge, he may be able to extrapolate information and make educated guesses on unknown races.
    • Limited Engineering Knowledge: Gnarot didn't exactly ace the course with highest honours, but he knows enough about technology to get some big machines up and running in a pinch. He figured it would be a useful skill to learn for if his team was ever working from a duck blind and its camouflage was threatening to fail. Plus, knowing the resale value for any given machine and its components is a nice bonus.
  • Equipment:
    • Type-1 Phaser: Basic weapon allowing for self-defence while undercover on an alien planet. Features eight settings, including stun, heat, disrupt and disintegrate.
    • Ferengi Rifle: A family keepsake, which served Uncle Lunteel well as a privateer, and which Gnarot bought off him for a bargain price. Inscribed on the shaft is the motto "Dead Men Close No Deals".
    • Tool Kit: A handheld kit, about the size of a lunchbox, with just enough equipment in to affect some quick repairs on the fly.
    • Isolation Suit: This suit was designed to keep the wearer undetected when traversing an uncontacted planet, to preserve the Prime Directive. While silly-looking, this suit projects holographic shell that can render its wearer as good as invisible. However, it can be detected when viewed on a specialised screen. Also, its stealth ability is tethered to the monitoring station that sustains the hologram, and if the station is downed, the suit is revealed.
