DC Heroes: Wake Up Call

Professor Pelt reached over and took out what appeared to be a smart phone from the rack the mannequin was standing on. He tapped the screen of the device's screen, then tapped through a few option screens.

The R.E.D.S.H.I.R.T. stepped off the rack and moved a few steps.

"Right now, Wesley... that's the nickname for the device... is in punching bag mode. It can be set to defend itself, anywhere from an untrained human to a multiple black-belt. It can also be set to attack, but I don't plan to use those options today. It will stop immediately if told to 'shut up, Wesley'."

The robot suddenly slumped to the ground. Pelt tapped the smartphone controller, causing Wesley to stand back up. "If you want, I can change the setting. Otherwise, I want you to see how much damage you can do to Wesley in ten seconds. Don't worry about breaking it, Wesley can repair even from being ripped apart. "

Lottie inspired and expired. Those kungfu classes from two months ago had to have some effect.

I’m ready.

Professor Pelt checks the settings on the robot, then activates a timer on the controller. "Begin!"

One punch, two punches, three punches... one kick.

Total: 15 punches in the chest, 2 in the face and a final kick to the face.

Punching the robot felt a bit like punching a giant stress ball, the filling quickly dissipating the energy. Wesley made no move to block, even as it rocked with each punch. Even then final kick only made its head sway back slightly.

"Time! Shut up, Wesley!" Professor Pelt snapped, then checked the score total as the robot slumped to the ground. "Forty-one points... Not a bad first go. Good speed. Next time you might want to go for the throat or try to take out a joint... the idea is to incapacitate an opponent, not make him angry. Like one of my mentors told me, if you can't break ribs, aim for something you can break." Pelt tapped in the reset code. "NEXT!"

2 points per chest punch, 3 points per head hit, 5 points for the finisher kick.

"I guess I'll go." Caitlin steps up. "So, do you want me to punch it or..."

She clasps her hands and forms a snowball in her palm, out of thin air.

Lottie goes Wide Eyes and Shrunken Irises when she sees the snowball. CAITLIN HAS ICE POWERS?

"Use whatever attacks you would use against an actual opponent." said Professor Pelt. He tapped on the controller, resetting the timer. "And... attack!"

After a few deep breaths, Caitlin begins. She starts with a volley of icicles in succession, one from each hand, like little darts. After that, a small hail begins to fall on Wesley, before finally, Caitlin creates some sort of "ice brass knuckles", for lack of a better term, and delivers a well-timed punch.

Total: 8 blasts from icicles, 10 pellets of hail, one punch.

"Time, Thiry-eight points." announced Professor Pelt. "If you aimed for the eye area or did larger icicles you would have scored higher, but extra points for the ice knuckles." He reset the robot. "Who would like to go next?"

Stéphanie watched from the back practically exhuming herself from the lesson and everyone else in the room.

"I'll go," Shi offers, piping up from further back within the group of students. With first impressions already made anyway, it couldn't do much harm to show off just a teeny little bit, could it?

He steps forward with a devilish grin and begins focusing his aura between his palms, the pooled psychic energy concentrating into a loose mass of visible reddish light, then waits for Linus to give the signal to begin.

Professor Pelt shifted, draping the towel over his arm like a waiter, then nodded. "And... START!"

The very second the timer starts, Shi lets loose a barrage of bright red energy orbs; one, two, three, thirty hits in total. Rapid-fire attacks were his specialty, after all, so you probably wouldn't catch them all making contact.
This gets followed up by a few charged uppercuts for most of the remaining time, using his aura to greatly enhance the speed of his original punches.

And finally, one complete release of his energy—

BOOM

A small explosion shook the room. Flashy as it was, a particularly trained eye would probably notice that while insanely fast, most of his attacks barely did half the damage as they appeared to.

And time—Shi steps back from Wesley, irises slowly fading from their previous crimson colour as he deactivated his powers.

Total: x30 hits to pretty much everywhere on the body, x10 hits to the head and chest, and x1 finishing move.

Professor Pelt moved as parts of the R.E.D.S.H.I.R.T. exploded from the energy, using the blanket to block bits from hitting himself or the other students. Surprisingly, each piece as it hit the blanket didn't penetrate or even bounce off as if they did from the walls; instead, the pieces hitting the blanket just fell to the ground.

AS the time ended, Professor Pelt checked the remote. "Impressive... Two hundred points. We'll need a few minutes while the robot repairs itself."

The robot looks like someone had gouged chunks of its body out, revealing exposed, grayish goo. Even as the students watched, the splattered bits of the robot turned the same gray as the inside of the robot's innards and began to move toward the still robot.

Lottie tried not to vomit.

Shi's eyes widen a little upon being told his score; okay, that was a bit more overkill than what he planned. And he completely totalled the dummy—it looked like there was even goo leaking from the ceiling.

"Whoops~" he mutters, offering the ill-looking girl in the crowd a somewhat apologetic grin as he spun around on his heel and headed back to where he'd originally been standing.

Sprite poked one of the piece of 'goo splatter', then lined up to go next.

"Ok, Wesley is ready to go again." said Professor Pelt. He looked at Sprite. "Go ahead, mi... um, student."

Sprite nodded, waiting.

"Start!"

Sprite through two fast punches at the robot, fists crackling at each punch. Sprite took a step back, then leapt forward. Sprite's clothes fell to the ground as Sprite appeared to vanish as he/she impacted with the robot.

There was a moment of confused silence, then the R.E.D.S.H.I.R.T.'s hands lifted up. The robot reached up, one hand gripping the back of its own head, the other hand on the back of the head. With a sudden twist, the robot broke its own neck and then slumped down to the ground, head lolling at an unnatural angle.

In a flash of blue light, Sprite reappeared. Sprite stood above the robot, clad only in a blue leotard, and then bent over to pick up the discarded clothes. "How did I do?"

"Eight points for the taser punches, twenty for the finisher, and...." Professor Pelt read off the screen, then frowned. "Student Sprite, there is no such thing as a 'One thousand point hacking bonus'."

Sprite shrugged, then moved to the corner of the room to dress. The robot's head twitched as the neck began to repair itself.

"Ok, anyone else ready to go?" asked Professor Pelt.

Some strange bees start to enter the boiler room.

"Did anyone else see that?"

Lottie turns her head around. "Are those... bees?"

Professor Linus frowns and tries to use the blanket to catch one of the bees.

Sprite steps back toward the wall and 'charges up' so that any insect that gets withing a centimeter of her/him will, the bug get zapped.

A bee gets closer to Sprite’s electric wall, it gets zapped, literally buzzes in the air, then starts to fall down. However, more and more bees get closer.

Caitlin quickly erects a similar wall, made of thick ice, around herself as she tries to think of a plan.

Taking a closer look, Caitlin realizes there's something...off about the bees. The flight pattern seems far more erratic, and their wings and bodies are way too shiny.

"I don't think these are normal bees."
