It’s only fair that Anya is easy to read since she can read other’s people’s minds too.

Really funny gag when Anya gets the battle aura from the macaroon and it does jack, even if it’s predictable. The art really sold it. Looks like Anya will have to go to a different class which means she’ll have to mingle with new folks.

I'm surprised Anna hasn't resorted to cheating. Surely, not every test falls during a new moon.

She’s trying to be better than that. And it does seem like her grades are improving! Not enough for a star but still.

Lloyd does note that if it weren't for the spelling errors, she would have gotten a higher grade because the questions were answered well.

Though he thinks it's odd because it's the one test which she shouldn't have done as well as she did, since they've barely studied Classical Language at all. It's even weirder to him since he doesn't know of any country where it's still being used.

I did like that she got the highest score out of all five of them.

I can't but dislike the scene because of that. It feels like real heavy foreshadowing that Anya's going to be some long-lost survivor of such a country.

Not only does it feel extremely blunt in setting up such a plot point, but I question if that's even needed. The story has a solid base of a spy trying to stop a war between the west and the east while posing as a family with an assassin and psychic to avoid detection. All the additions to that story have built upon that, with Nightfall being from the same agency as Loid, and Bonds coming from the same lab as Anya.

I just don't think the story needs to introduce another country into the mix, especially when said country is basically coming out of nowhere, nor does Anya need anything more to her character other than her daily life and psychic abilities.

It seems less like an unknown country and more some sort of secluded and old-fashioned social environment…

Well, she's a Mysterious Waif raised in a lab, so I daresay the story will inevitably explore more of her true origins. Despite the usual Slice of Life hijinks, this series does have a larger plot going on in the background, so this won't be like Yotsuba&! where the protagonist's unclear origins is just an excuse for her to be Happily Adopted into her current family.

And classical language... yeah, it'd be something more like learning Old English or Latin rather than something completely foreign, so I suppose this will tie into the setting's history, and not introduce a brand new nation.

Yeah I would say the bit about the classical language will serve more as a hint towards Anya’s origins as a lab rat rather than revealing she’s the last of her kind, or something.

I thought it was just Loid starting to notice that Anya is getting knowledge she doesn't have access to, and possibly learning she is a psychic. People here think Anya learned the Classical Language answers without reading minds?

Loid says that "they" haven't learned much of Classical language, i.e. referring to the whole student body. This means that the class average for that subject should be lower than the average of other subjects like Maths and Sciences, and that if Anya cheated, then her grades for that class would be lower as well.

Besides, depending on what they test on, cheating on laguage and liberal arts subjects are way harder than technical subjects. In subjects like maths and sciences, if two students use the exact, same correct method to achieve the same answer, then no one would bat an eye at it. But if you write an essay on something, and your sentence is exactly the same as someone else's, you immediately give yourself away.

It seems that whatever environment she was raised/created in, it used an antiquated version of their language, yeah. Maybe a third actor in the cold war?

...I thought it was just an indication that the macaroon really did boost Anya's intelligence, just like it was rumored to. It's just that it wasn't enough to help dummy-dumm-dumm Anya.

Nah, it's pretty clear that the macaroon legend is just that - a legend. They're just really good macaroons.

Granted its a decent placebo effect on the right student.

With perhaps a small touch of sugar-rush.

The mention of this new assassin group called Garden does seem to imply Yor is a member now that I think about her nickname.

Finally, took a while for Yor to get some focus chaps too.

I was just lamenting how Yor only got screentime as part of a Franky focus chapter... so it’s cool to know we’re getting more of her in the next chapter. Would be cool to see the other assassins with similar garden-related puns for names.

It's funny if you think about it Yor and Yuri both work or with for the government in dealing with spies, assuming Yor is part of Garden. The fact that Franky didn't know Yor's true background is probably a testament of how secretive they are.

It’s probably safe to say Yor is part of Garden. One of the silhouettes look like her, her last name is Briar, and her alias is Queen of Thorns.

I wonder how long before she gets assigned to target Twilight.
