I would legit watch a movie of just Talos faffing around on Earth, making messes out of his assigned job.

The other end of Peter's unanswered phone call.

  • Soren: We need to talk about—
  • Talos: SHH SH SH! I'm calling an Avenger. An actual, honest-to-Carol Avenger.
  • Soren: And?
  • Talos: HE'S PICKING UP!
  • Soren: ...
  • Talos: Oh, wait, no. Apparently Earth phones do this thing where they're blank for a few seconds and then start ringing.
  • Soren: That's weird.
  • Talos: It's ringing....
  • Soren: He might be busy.
  • Talos: ...it went to voicemail! (hangs up quickly)
  • Soren: Why didn't you leave a voicemail? He might have called you back.
  • Talos: Should I have left a voicemail? Does Nick Fury leave voicemails?
  • Soren: He might just be doing something very important.
  • Talos: No, Happy said he'd make sure Spider-Man got my call. (confused) Is he snubbing me?
  • Soren: I'm sure it's fine.
  • Talos: Does Nick Fury get snubbed?!

Do you think it would have worked if Talos approached Peter as someone else?

Actually, no. He'd then morph into Captain Stacy, complete with Denis Leary reprising the role. Only then would he turn into Tony Stank.

Here's an interesting video about the narrative and logical problems with EDITH.

Tl;dw Instead of EDITH, the big plot coupon would be the nanotech Iron Spider suit. So, instead of questions like "where were the drones during Endgame" its about Peter becoming dependent on the last thing Tony gave him in life and overcoming it in a battle with a for-real superpowers Mysterio.

The whole thing relies on Mysterio really having superpowers? Don’t know if I like that idea.

[up] Well more like he and his team pretty much have the same plan, only instead of getting a bunch of drones they get nanotech that effectively gives Beck superpowers so he could actually pretend to be a superhero. Poor recapping on my part.

If you're not going to make Mysterio a bullshit illusionist, you might as well just use a different character. Illusions are his whole thing.

The idea of nanotechnology superpowers fits something more like the Ultimate Spider-Slayer anyway.

Plus the idea of Mysterio’s powers being an total sham and his intent and plan behind conceiving them were all pretty brilliantly placed for where the MCU is right now, so you’d lose more changing it.

Why are we spoiler tagging this, btw?

Don't know. Figured it was for discussion without making people watch the video.

I guess what i had liked about it was the idea that Peter becomes overreliant on the suit which IMO flows better into the "Peter regains his Spider-Sense as a shorthand for gaing back his confidence." I dunno, that just feels like a slightly more cohesive spin on it than "he gets magic skillset glasses that he only just now becomes aware of."

But isn't that just the first movie?

He only becomes aware of them now because they are Tony's glasses and Tony kept them a secret (probably so that nobody would try to co-opt EDITH like they had with Project Insight).

I have no idea how reliable this site is, but...

If it's true, I hope there was a change in Sony management to know not to meddle.

The part where Peter missed Mysterio being a hologram during their roof chat is addressed in the film. While Mysterio is "in the air", there's an open door behind Peter and the camera pans to Peter's right, suggesting the real Mysterio invisibly walked in through that door, sat down next to Peter, and then the hologram matched his pose and vanished.

YESH the more we can see what is possible with BARF the reasons WHY Stark Industries (headed by Pepper at that time) eventually killed the project just keep stacking up, it's just too ripe for abuse. Anybody wanna take bets that Beck was trying to angle for some of those weaponizations before he got fired?

There's some things that some of us need to remember before fans do the job of Disney’s PR department for them:

  • 1. Disney knew this might happen and played hardball
    • Disney made Far From Home and left it on the cliffhanger it did knowing full well that they had yet to make a deal with Sony on a third movie, assuming it would happen.
    • Disney asked Sony for substantially more money and control over the Spider-Man franchise in exchange for continuing to work with them.

  • 2. Sony doesn’t need Disney as much as you think
    • All the publicity that Sony got for Spider-Man through working with Marvel Studios will carry into whatever they do, and they are unlikely to abandon Tom Holland or not make a third movie. All the Spider-Man characters (including Jameson, Peter’s friends and teachers, etc.) belong to them.
    • For those who say that Sony should have capitulated because it otherwise has mishandled the franchise and needs Disney, remember that Sony made Into the Spiderverse last year on its own and it blew up at the box office and won a freakin’ Oscar, plus Venom did shockingly well.

  • 3. A Sony Spider-Man movie is by no means a guaranteed dumpster fire
    • For those who say any Sony Spider-Man movie will inevitably suck, their track record doesn’t bear that out. Out of six Spider-Man movies total, only two are actually generally considered to be bad: TASM 2 and Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3. Another two are considered passable: Raimi’s first Spider-Man and TASM 1, while two are actually some of the best-regarded superhero movies ever: Spider-Man 2 and Into the Spiderverse.
    • When Into the Spiderverse was in development, people were convinced that it too would be a dumpster fire. They were proven very wrong.
    • The decision to even partner with Marvel Studios at all shows that Sony may have learned from past mistakes and has been known to be responsive to fans. TASM 2 still made money and didn’t bomb, and they could have pressed forward with a third but didn’t. Plus they seem to not be rushing more Spiderverse movies for now.

This isn't to say Sony isn’t to be blame here too. I just would rather not see fans falling over themselves to basically kiss Disney and Marvel Studios’ ass and pretend that Sony are polluting things with “business” and corporate greed like Disney isn’t also thinking about the bottom line. Does Marvel Studios make excellent movies? Yes. Is that a reason to promote and argue for a giant corporation that will only become more anti-fan the bigger it gets? Hopefully not.

The cold never bothered me anyway

I would say that people were evenly split on whether or not ITSV would be good or not, with a lot of people thinking that it would be good purely because it involved Lord and Miller.

Disney asked Sony for substantially more money and control over the Spider-Man franchise in exchange for continuing to work with them.
We actually don't know how much they ask for.
