I'd just like to say I think Dimitri would be a fine ruler, he still cares for his people, and is able to keep his violent urges in check. His portrait is him being a mall Santa to kids, I respect that.

Even in full boar mode he doesn't beat the shit out of Felix for example and just takes his insults. I find the notion that as king, he's just one bad day from killing his subjects to be absurd.

And honestly, when he goes back to regular Dimitri, at no point does he come off like he'll go on a mass murdering spree, at worst, he'll have to deal with the voices in his head but that's more of a danger to himself than to others. He even orders one of the accomplices of Duscar genocide to be locked up, so he's got his bloodlust under control.

To be honest I think most of the girls look better pre-timeskip with the exceptions of Petra, Annette, and Leonie looking better post-timeskip and Bernadetta and Marianne's pre and post timeskip designs being equally bad in the original game. As for Ingrid and Annette specifically...I just don't like Ingrid with short hair, which she has in both Three Houses and Three Hopes, and I just think Annette's new design isn't as cute as her previous post-timeskip design.

Saying it would be more "in-character" for Dimitri to relinquish the throne misses the whole point. He may see himself as undeserving of being a ruler, but he also feels personally responsible for the Kingdom's sorry state, much like he felt personally responsible for avenging the dead. He's going to fix it himself no matter what.

And a big theme of his route is acceptance. That scene at the end of Chapter 18 is the true turning point, because he genuinely didn't expect to be welcomed back into his country as its king after abandoning it and spending several years mindlessly killing Imperial soldiers, and it is more or less what snaps him out of his black-and-white worldview that kept him from trying to reconcile with El.

Yeah one of the major points of the route is for Dimitri to grow into the good king leader and overcome his own issues and self-hatred.

Sure I would have preferred it if Dimitri actually did kill innocents while in boar mode like he implied and to show that just because you do evil by mistake or otherwise doesn't mean you are damned forever and can spend your life atoning for it but otherwise the primary theme of Dimitri letting go of his delusional devotion to the dead and focus on the living who need him is fine.

As far as the game shows, Dimitri's a saint and even his turn to violence is motivated by empathy for the dead as misguided as it is. At no point is he portrayed as incompetent as a leader, or that his illness seriously hinders him in a way that debilitates his ability to rule fairly. He does admit he's be forced to deal with the voices in his head for the rest of his life but the game makes it clear he's got a fairly good support system. And Felix.

Plus he's way better a leader than Byleth.

Yep, the designs are pretty much what I expected after the Lions trailer. Can't wait to see the Deer. (We've seen Hilda and a bit of Lorenz so far.)

I like Linhardt's hair. It's a nice middle ground between pre- and post-timeskip. Bernie, on the other hand... sorry, it's a no from me.

I'm guessing Ferdinand is still Billy Kametz? If so, I guess it means they were able to record his lines before his hiatus from voice acting.

I seriously hope his cancer treatment is going well.

Even in the Warriors spinoff, Hubert still loses some hair after the timeskip. My man, that seems kinda like a problem :p

Well, gotta say I love all the new designs, though Bernie has a weird tied up piece of her hair at the top.

I was grinning like a madman when Ferdinand showed up with his iconic line.

Long live the Empire, serve the Emperor or be crushed underneath. I look forward to seeing our enemies on the field, seems both the Kingdom and Alliance fight us.

Yeah it was a legit joy to hear him again as Ferdie and I hope he's recovers. At least he's with family last I heard.

Bernadetta looks like she had to find a really quick solution to her hair growing long enough to start getting into her eyes with no time to properly cut it. I can relate.

Looks like the war's going to be "Empire vs. everyone" again, hm? I'm honestly more interested in characters other than the main cast at this point, since it's already obvious they're going to bring in some people who never showed up in person before...

EDIT: The Lions trailer dropped a week ago IIRC, does this mean we'll get the Deer on 27th?

I wonder if the last character trailer we get before the release of the game won't actually be the Golden Deer or the Church of Seiros, but one that is all about new characters. For all the jokes about "saving the best for last," I could see the last character trailer being used to introduce characters like Monica, Holst, and anyone else that is new.

Loving the Beagles' redesigns. Bernie's turned out to be what I expected but the same cannot be said for Caspar.

I'm totally gonna have Shez S-Rank Monica if that's a thing.

x3 I suspect we'll get a trailer for the church staff and then for the new guys later down the road (or heck, maybe combine the two, if my theory about OG Monica being a Knight of Seiros in 3 Hopes' timeline is spot on).

x4 Next trailer should be on the 27th, yeah. Scarlet Blaze being CF again also isn't that surprising in hindsight.

Like I said, you want a straight up hero, go play Dimitri or Claude, I'm with Edelgard because I like her anti-hero/villain protagonist character.

Still, plenty of time to see before release. A not insignificant part of me does want to see her team up with the others, but I'm ready just in case she's still committed to the path of the conqueror.

I figured she could at least temporarely team up with Claude for a change. Especially since Byleth won't be helping Claude take advantage of the Church this time. Probably.

Petra is definitely the winner here when it comes to the girls, while Dorothea changed the least and Bernie... not a fan, it's all I'll say. As for the men...

This game was made specifically to torture me by making all the men I was attracted to in the base game uglier, wasn't it?

Sigh At least Dimitri is still hot and Ashe is passable. Thank goodness the only guy I find attractive from the Deers is Claude and his design is already revealed. They can only go up from there.

To be fair, the voice acting was likely recorded months ago.

It perfectly captures her shut in energy though.

Yeah, Kametz's hiatus was announced fairly recently, so I always did consider there was a good chance his lines were recorded before he had to take a break due to his cancer.

It's definitely good to have him in this game.

I watched the Breakfast Club last night, and I gotta say, Bernie reminds me a lot of Allison the Basket Case... though Allison is The Gadfly and Bernie very much isn't, of course.

I'm weirded out by Bernie's... tiny reverse ponytail thing? I don't even know what to call it. I am amused that she ducks and covers during her own arrow rain attack.

Also, Petra dual wielding daggers for about four seconds there. She goes back to a reverse-grip sword later, but definitely interesting.

Imagine if Claude and Dimitri finally have their team up, that the fans dream off, but it only happens in Edelgard's route and she has to take down both of them at the same time.

Like Hyrule Warriors having that Ganondorf vs Zelda and Link fight. Which was one of the most hype moments in that game BTW.
