Now that they've broken up with Netflix, Disney has announced new series for Disney+ and Hulu. Since there are only vague descriptions so far, I thought I'd create a catch-all thread for now. After they're released we can see if they warrant individual threads.

Disney+ series:

  • WandaVision: Featuring the Vision and the Scarlet Witch
  • The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
  • Loki: Our favorite trickster gets his own show.
  • What If...: Based on the What If? comic, it features alternate versions of familiar Marvel stories.

Hulu series:

  • Ghost Rider
  • Helstrom: Daimon and Ana Helstrom, the children of Satan, track down the terrorizing worst of humanity.

Is the last based on an existing Marvel comic? I can't seem to find one.

No telling where these fall in the various continuities. At least in the MCU as of "now" some of them aren't around.

Say hello to the Son of Satan. He also had two other volumes called Hellstorm and Hellstorm: Son of Satan. Really tells you why they didn't put this one on Disney+, right?

Fun fact: the synopsis says that his sister is named "Ana" — in the comics, she's actually named Satana. But I guess that was just too on the nose, you know?

Another fun fact: Ghost Rider first appeared in Marvel Spotlight #5-11, while Daimon Hellstrom appeared right after him in Marvel Spotlight #12-24.

I'm just glad they are using AOS's Robbie Reyes. That gives the tv universe a bit more interconnection.

And here I was still hoping for a Blade series, but Ghost Rider is cool. But...Ghost Riders in the Sky has to be the opening, right? I mean Nicholas Cage used it but still.

I think they're saving Blade for a movie, but I'd prefer if they swapped it around. It feels like there's already a billion movie series about vampire hunters. Ghost Rider may have been Nicholas Caged last time we say him on the big screen, but at least he's different.

The Disney Plus shows will be on the service from day one, right? So, when is the launch of Disney Plus again?

November 12th. None of them have been confirmed for day one release though.

The only show that will be on it from day one is The Mandalorian.

We now have release dates for the Disney+ shows. None will premiere with the Disney+ this fall.

  • The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Fall 2020
  • WandaVision: Spring 2021
  • Loki: Spring 2021
  • What If..?: Summer 2021
  • Hawkeye: Fall 2021

I didn't see any updates about Ghost Rider or Helstrom, but those are apparently scheduled for some time in 2020.

Also, What If..? will be an animated series. That probably makes sense, given that they're going to be redoing various movies that they couldn't match on a TV budget. However, the original casts will be voicing their characters.

Jeffrey Wright will also voice Uatu the Watcher. And if he ever shows up in live-action, I hope Wright voices him, too.

We've also got She-Hulk, Moon Knight, and Mrs. Marvel now. That last one is gonna make the alt-right flip out, I bet.

Moon Knight, if they stick to the comics and have him beat the crap of neo-nazis!

She-Hulk huh? Probably gonna spend a lot of time in the courtroom I bet.

I'm not that familiar with Moon Knight, but I'm a little concerned about trying to do Ms. Marvel on a TV budget. That sort of CGI animation is really expensive, or else it looks like the Roger Corman The Fantastic Four. That was a problem (among others) with the Inhumans. I suppose they could limit her power to embiggening rather than stretching which could be done with green screen effects. That would be disappointing.

Assuming they get a bodybuilder to play She-Hulk (ala the TV The Incredible Hulk) rather than trying to do the movies' CGI Hulk, that won't be too expensive. Super strength and agility is relatively easy to do with standard stunt work, which is probably why the Netflix shows focused on that. (And Killgrave's power was cheapest of all to depict: "Act like he's controlling your mind.")

For those worried about the TV shows have "TV budgets," this is the trailer for The Mandalorian, airing on Disney+ on November 12.

The Disney+ shows seem to have pretty big budgets.

I imagine that these shows will have shorter season orders for better allocation of special effects. Loki's about 6 episodes for its first season, for example. Fellow superhero show The Boys is 8 episodes and some really impressive effects work for a TV show.

But man, I can't wait for Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, and especially She-Hulk! I wonder if Jen will get her Fourth-Wall Observer trait adapted in a clever manner?

Welp, read a news story this morning about Mrs. Marvel. Comments were about what you'd expect, racism out the wazoo, jokes about how Mrs. Marvel would fly into buildings, have to wear a burka, how Marvel was going the "political correctness" and "white guilt" routes...

Fuckin' morons.

Our first low-res look at The Falcon and Winter Soldier poster, featuring a new outfit for Bucky.

[up]x2: Sadly, even a long-standing respected character like She-Hulk wasn't immune to this sudden negative backlash on public social media accounts.note

It really reeks of ignorance when arguments about how no matter how distinct a Spear Counterpart is, even from day one in Jennifer's case, they're still considered "redundant" or "agenda-pushing".

Though I do appreciate them wondering when a "Spider-Girl" television series or movie is coming up, cause I can't wait for the Spider-Verse spin-off!

[up] I mean, She-Hulk was created in 1980 and has been a staple of the Marvel Universe since. These people complaining about the Hulk being "turned into a woman" or that Marvel "doesn't need anymore female characters" sound more like trolls who are deliberately trying to provoke people, rather than actual fans.
