The train fight was probably my favorite action scene in the film. And I’ve been on that Metro train! But I’ve never seen anything interesting happen on it. If two aliens suddenly started duking it out aboard I’d probably have slept through it. tongue

I'm glad that the extras tried to pull Carol away from Old Lady Skrull. I'm always happy when the people in the background do something, rather than just do nothing and watch.

[up] Agreed. I guess from their perspective it would be easier to accept that the old lady was unusually physically fit for her age then that she was an alien shapeshifter.

Sorry if this isn't the right place, but I'm new to the Forums.

I noticed two Continuity Snarl moments when watching the film yesterday. But for some reason, the page is locked from editing and I don't know who to contact so they can be added.

I don't want to list them here, because I don't know how to hide spoilers in the Forums. If you need to know them and it's okay to say them in this Topic, then I will come back and post them.

EDIT: I think I figured out how to mark spoilers.

When referring to SHIELD, they don't call it by its unabbreviated name. Yet, in Iron Man , that was the first time they started calling it SHIELD.

When Coulson is talking to Fury in his office at the end, Fury says that he doesn't know about any of the other threats that may come our way. Which is fair, given when the film is set. However, in The Avengers (2012) , Fury tells Loki something along the lines of until Thor came the year before, Earth didn't even begin to believe there was anyone else out there and it turned out they were hilariously wrong.

This is not the right place to discuss this, but:

The page is not locked. Or if it is, it's just a temporary "editing lock" which just exists so two people don't make edits at the exact same time and accidentally overwrite each other. In that case you just have to wait for them to finish.

You also don't need to hide spoilers in the spoiler thread.

The SHIELD thing is odd. Literally every bit of media that takes place before Iron Man (Agent Carter (the oneshot, not the series), the opening to Ant-Man iirc), ignores the gag about their name from Iron Man, so it's probably more along the lines of Early-Installment Weirdness.

@Blue Star Returns: Well, with SHIELD's name, that was retconned a long time ago. Iron Man has some Early-Installment Weirdness with SHIELD. SHIELD was portrayed as a fairly new organization in that movie, but later material reveals it to be older.

Ao S in the first episode makes fun of it having an obviously contrived acronym ("Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division. What does that mean to you?" "It means someone really wanted our initials to spell SHIELD"), for example, and the joke in Iron Man revolves around it not being contrived, just a hilarious coincidence.

A little miffed to find the movie takes place in 1995 and not a little bit later. Because when Maria was dog-fighting against Minn through the canyon, I was 100% sure she got the idea from Independence Day. tongue

@Protagonist 506 : But the thing about saying Thor was the first "threat" from another planet makes what Fury said to Coulson here an error, though, right? I may have to pop in Avengers 1 to see if I'm remembering that correctly...

It warrants noting that when Fury's saying that bit in Avengers 1, it's in the context of explaining why S.H.I.E.L.D., as a whole, started work on the Phase Two Tesseract weapons.

Fury, however, hated the Phase Two project. It was a S.H.I.E.L.D. project, but not one he liked. It's indicated that he was overruled by the W.S.C. What Fury wanted to protect the Earth was the Avengers Initiative, which he was already working on well before Thor ever showed up.

Fury also emphasizes that Thor's arrival didn't just show them that they're not alone in the universe, but that they're "hilariously outgunned". Thor didn't stop by Earth for a brief chat. He got in a fistfight that, according to Fury, leveled a town. S.H.I.E.L.D. responders were on the scene and helpless to do anything while the super-alien beatdown was destroying a small chunk of the United States.

Thor's fight with the Destroyer was for S.H.I.E.L.D. what Superman's fight with Zod in Metropolis was for DC's United States.

So this might not actually be a plot hole. Thor's arrival threw S.H.I.E.L.D. into a panic and they told Fury to eat a dick, shelved his Avengers project, and made him start building Tesseract super-guns. That doesn't necessarily contradict the idea that Fury himself wanted to do the Avengers project because of the Kree-Skrull encounter.

Fury even kinda says as much after Coulson's not death.

I mean, he's the only one who really saw everything with the Skrulls, so they mostly only have his word on it, along with a single alien body and maybe the Tesseract (which they might have twigged was alien after 70 years of study).

Thor was the wake up call for everyone else that Fury'd had years earlier.

One thing I absolutely loved is that Carol is not a finesse fighter. She's not an agility-based combatant. She is 100% a bruiser, like Thor or Hulk, and that made me so happy.

Oh yeah, that is just so nice.

I just watched this movie today and dang I really loved it! Carol was a lot of fun to watch and I loved her interactions with Fury and her friendships with Maria and Monica. I also rather liked the twist with the Skrulls. I wasn't expecting them to be the good guys, even if I was fully expecting the Kree to turn out to be bad, so that was a pretty cool choice.

I saw it yesterday. Aside from technical issues [lack of sound during trailer roll, wonky 3D], I thought it was a mess, but a fun mess. A lot of 90's pop-culture references that ranged from subtle and cute, to "Hey, 'member grunge? 'member DSL internet?" "'MEMBER?" that more than not drifted to the latter. The opening sequences I found to be rushed and kinda confusing-we went from Carol's intro almost immediately to the attack on the Skrull camp [which I thought was really weirdly edited and had too much emphasis on dull browns, drab greens, and bright blues that tended to blend into each other at points. Also, the exposition during these early sequences was obnoxious, I thought. Otherwise, once Carol landed on Earth, I thought the movie really got the ball rolling. The CGI and practical effects were astounding, especially the de-aging effects on Jackson and Gregg. I remember my jaw practically dropping during the final dogfight in the Grand Canyon and Carol's unleashed fury on Ronan's forces.

I also thought the twist on the Kree/Skrull war was a nice touch, giving a gentler edge to a race that is usually presented in canon in the regular Marvel Universe as just as vile, nasty, and bloodthirsty as the Kree are in this movie. While I could predict several twists a mile off, they were fun to do so, and didn't bother me when I was proved wrong or right. I love how they made me actively despise Jude Law to the point that I felt like decking him in his dimple. Also, Goose the Flerken Cat is probably the highlight of the movie, especially when Nick starts to use him as a WMD.

Question-Is Carol immortal or ageless because of her powers in the MCU? Otherwise, by the time Endgame rolls around, she will be the oldest active human hero in the MCU. Which is a whole new level of awesome.
