Don't give me hope, I'm trying to talk myself out of being sad when Miku loses.

But yeah, the bell kiss is definitely the strongest evidence against Itsuki.

People seem to be talking about the First Girl Win tropes after this chapter. I was wonder, what if the girl end up with the main character is not the first girl or last girl, then what would we call that? Mid girl win? I only recall 1 case where in a harem manga a girl who not the first or last win the main character and that is The World God Only Know.

You, we keep bringing up the idea of Itsuki falling for Fuutarou. We never did talk about the reverse, who's to say Fuuts didn't fall in love with the bride first.

@Raizer: It also happens in Negima, depending on your definitions of 'last girl'.

It's been fun.

@Black Yakuzu 94: You have a point there. the author did say that we should considering Futarou feeling too. Rarely did you see in harem why the main character like these girl or even show interest in each of them until the last part. Most of the time the formula are: Intruduce girls-> harem antic( which take up 80 % of the story) -> Climax -> the End.

[up][up][up]

Itsuki and Fuutarou don't have any chemistry and if he fallen for her now that would be one of hell mess.

Obviously Fuutarou will be one whose feeling are decesive, but it's pretty obvious who will be chosen at this point.

Fuutaro seemed a little bummed over the idea that Miku didn't like him, doesn't currently reciprocate Ichika or Nino, and seems to have no romantic connection to Yotsuba. He is close to Itsuki in a way that could eventually lead to a Love Epiphany, though. In my mind only Miku and Itsuki are possible now.

Yea, he didn't even see them as potential love interests until Nino confessed, at which point he is now becoming more self-conscious of them as a whole.

But for the most part, he seems closest to Itsuki and Miku right now.

[up][up] If it was obvious, we wouldn't be having this discussion

Translations for the next chapter have dropped. I'll just give a cliffsnotes version.

  • The Kyoto trip requires a maximum group of 5 people for the bus ride.
  • Miku and Ichika both try to coerce Yotsuba into asking Fuutarou to join their group to make three.
  • When everyone is gathered to make final preparations, Nino publicly voices her intent to be in a group alone with Fuutarou to everyone's shock (and irritation to a few)
  • Fuutarou was already in a group though with Takeda and Maeda, so the sisters are forced together in their own group, but the atmosphere is extremely awkward.

Looks like shots are being fired.

At this point, I'm more than willing to see all of them squirm in the family pressure cooker for a little while, though Yotsuba's a sweetheart and doesn't really deserve it. Clearly we need to go to Kyoto to recover the sacred Nakano family treasure - the ten-armed Get Along Sweater.

I like that Futarou have other male friend, i general i like it when roomcom and harem main character have other friend beside his harem and his friends aren't perverted fiend( Nisekoi, Negima, We can't study,...)

Talk about karmic retribution. [lol]

It hurts to say, but I found Miku a little pathetic at the end… Sorry, girl, you're not Nino.

As unlikely as it is, I would laugh if Yotsuba ended up being the bride. I mean, she and Itsuki are the only ones who seem to remember that Fuutarou is a human with feelings here. The others just assumed that he'd stay friendless forever, that's kinda rude.

Yea, it is not exactly unfounded; he actually didn't have any friends before he met the girls, and only gained male friends recently.

That said; yea, they're being pretty ugly right now about him.

Ichika is still trying to manipulate behind the scenes.

Nino is being even more pushy and aggressive

And Miku is too much of a doormat to take any action whatsoever

It is not a good look for any of them.

Like I said, I'm not averse to watching the five of them stew for a little while with each other for company, and hopefully walk out of it with a more considerate outlook.

Just read the translated chapter and here is my though:

- I like that it showMiku learning to cook better and i show that it was not easy

- Poor Yotsuba trying to make everyone happy

- Nino save the day again, i like Nino cause she straightforward, she know what she want and doesn't afraid of speaking her mind, it also show she care about her sisters cause she don't want Yotsuba to sacrifice herself.

- I think i just find something interesting about Ichika, she try to manipulate the situation so that she can be close to Futarou, but beside that, she don't seem to have any other plans on what she gonna do when they together. She basically try to create situation but then let god take the wheel.

- I think this is the major turning point for Miku, after witnessing her sister, she know she have to try even harder now.

- Glad that Futarou have making other male friends and none of them was a pervert.

I also liked this chapter.

I love how straight forward Nino is about this. Which makes total sense given her personality, even if it doesn't seem likely when you look at her in the first volume.

It's that time of the week again people.

  • Yotsuba is trying to get things under control, hopes things can go back to what they were before
  • Yotsuba finds out about Rena
  • Rena shows up and Fuutarou asks why she's there after saying they wouldn't meet again before; Rena says she wanted to meet him, but Fuutarou says they meet every day, having figured out she's one of the Quints (remember, Fuutarou knows their mother's name was Rena)
  • "Rena" tries to get him to figure out which one she is, but Fuutarou has had enough of guessing games and tells her to piss off so he can enjoy his trip
  • "Rena" leaves and takes off her disguise, confirming she is Itsuki when takes off the hat
  • Isuki has some sort of plan that hinges on Fuutarou figuring out her identity

Sound like epic fail lol.

I wonder if she went for cheapshot because she felt threatened by Ichika and Nino.

Yeah, that doesn't sound so much like she wants Futaro herself, more that she wants to try to settle things down again. Either way, it doesn't sound like it worked - and once again, this series has fun playing with genre cliches.

I'm just laughing at how Fuutarou is completely unfazed by the reveal and doesn't even care enough to deduce her identity. My man just wants to enjoy his trip with no bullshit for once.

Which is in itself a sign of progress, I think. It's like that saying, "close enough to fight" - they're close enough now that disagreements don't automatically threaten their friendships. Futaro might be having troubles with some of the sisters, but he knows that telling any of them to knock off their disguise shenanigans won't shatter their relationship. And honestly, he has the right to say so, too. Just because you can dress up like your sisters to fuck with people doesn't make it a good thing to do, especially to a close friend.

It's been fun.

Longtime lurker of the site, first time poster.

I still think after all of this that Itsuki's a decoy while Negi Haruba sets up the real bride, but recent developments have me wondering if she jumps into the competition. Itsuki just seems like a friend & confidant as well as a deuteragonist going her own path more than a good fit for a romantic interest. Her words about doing things her own way in chapter 2 still stick with me. Making her the bride raises a whole bunch of questions to me about why he structured the plot the way he has and developed her like he has so far.

My running theory is that Negi's basically showing us the bride already, more or less hiding her in plain sight, and daring us to believe what's in front of us. He wants us worried about formulas and conventions, and while you can't totally escape them, he seems content to play with and defy them rather than be exclusively bound by them

At any rate, she wasn't my first pick, but I think the Bride might well be Nino when all is said and done but I could easily be wrong. So much seems to lead back to her to me. But really, I could see satisfying routes for all of the first four quints, even Ichika. I could hate read an ending involving her as the bride.

It's been ages since I've been invested in an anime/manga like this. I just want a satisfying, well-structured ending, even if it's not my preferred choice. I got interested in this series because it seemed more intelligently written than other harems and romcoms in recent memory. I hope I'm not wrong. Why bother writing a series that has so much ambiguity, misdirection, and willingness to defy expectations and conventions if you're just going to have the First Girl win like almost always? I have a sneaking feeling that the series will end more in frustration at what could have been than heartache.
