Sennen grins and gestures to the cutlass and flintlock pistol strapped to her own belt.

"Simple. Brute force. I reckon I could fuck up anything the rest of youse can't handle."

Criminals? thinks Victor. But I... I didn't kill him... I'm not...

He feels nervous all of a sudden. He had imagined that helping the crew retrieve this item from the bank would be simple, but...

W-What am I getting into?

Well...I may not look like it, but I can disguise myself as anybody in a jiffy. (Ira tells Bright Eyes.) I could just pretend to be one of those employee fellas and slip in without being noticed. And if that fails... (He briefly flexes his scaly arms.) Nothing the old one-two can't handle.

"I have… I have…" His mind blanks out as he tries to remember the name of his new sword, so instead he just hoists up Old Silver and drops it on the table. "And… I…" He leans most of his weight on the table as well. "I'm Kauri…"

"I'll have me some lime juice, I was training."

Bright Eyes nods in approval. "Lookin' good so far," she says. "So the dragon can go in disguised, givin' me cover to sneak in myself, then two of us can size up the place an' clear out what alarms an' guards we can, an' once they're softened up enough, it'll be easy enough for the rest to rush in an' storm the vault."

She signals to the bartender to fetch some drinks, then turns back to the others. "Right. Anything else I should know about you lot? Anything more we can do?"

"I got some fancy venom powers after I drank something ages ago", Nephenee explained, "They're just for helping my fists and sickles. Not much a stealth girl, never was. More about the vanguard life."

At a nearby table, an upright-standing salamander with round glasses and a brown vest seemed to overhear the conversation and looked to Nephenee, but quickly looked back at his drink to not be caught staring. A hooded figure was at the table with him.

"..." Parada, who has basically been blending into the background this whole time, contemplates telling the others about her... abilities. It was seeming less and less likely as time passed that they'd sell her out, after all.

"... I can... disorient people. Don't ask me how I do it, but I can. It affects everybody around me, though."

Kauri is already plenty disoriented, even without Parada's interference. It's gotten to the point he's kneeling on the floor. The fact that he's leaning his head against a table is the only reason he isn't just lying down. "… nngh…"

Uh, is there anything we can get here to help Kauri? (Ira asks, noting how poorly Kauri still seems to be doing.)

"...we could give him more alcohol 'til he's got a tolerance for it?"

Sennen really does think this is a helpful idea on some level. This should say a lot.

Jane, obviously, is pretty concerned!

"... Drunk." She says, coming over. "Kau? You there, bud?" She kneels down, looking him over. "Does anybody know if there's milk around?"

(Ira gives Sennen a very odd expression at her suggestion. Shaking his head and hearing Jane's suggestion, he looks to Bright Eyes.) They have milk here, right?

Bright Eyes stares a moment in confusion before finally nodding. "Barkeep!" she calls over her shoulder, "Fetch this lad some milk!" Then to the others, she says, "Keep him upright, an' if any of you's got medical skills, now would be a good time to mention it."

Out of the corner of her eye, she spots someone who seemed a bit too classy for a place like this. She makes a mental note to look into him more closely once Kauri's situation is under control.

"Mish Jan-" He shifts a little too much weight on the table and feels it tilt a little, which makes him stop leaning on it altogether. He continues to kneel on the floor without falling over. "… Head… feels funny…"

"You're drunk, baby." Jane puts bluntly. "Look, I had milk all the time as a kid when I would get hung over. This'll snap you right out of it." She pats him on the back, trying to give a reassuring smile.

"...or milk, aye! Milk works!"

"What's happened to you? Why is your face all red?"

(Samantha says this to whoever is drunk)

He slowly nods. As Jane pats his back, he lets himself lean into her.

"..."

As soon as she's sure no one's paying close attention to her, Parada sings something under her breath. Kauri should feel a little bit better, though not completely. Parada stops pretty quickly to avoid notice.

… Kauri suddenly gets a strange feeling. It's… soothing, in a way. His head feels a little less foggy, but that sensation is replaced by exhaustion. He completely lets his weight drop into Jane, leaning on her as his eyes half-close. "Mmn…"

The bespectacled salamander at the nearby table crawled down from his seat and scuttled closer to the crew.

"E-Excuse me", he called.

Nephenee looked to him and said, "Ah, if it isn't Ignatz! Fancy seeing you here!"

"He's a fledgling mercenary I worked with a few times", she explained to the other crewmates.

"Yes, I've heard you went ahead and joined a crew's quest, but I wasn't expecting to see you in New Barhaven", said Ignatz, adjusting his glasses. "I suppose it's lucky, then, I had a message to deliver to you."

"If you're gonna tell me that some of the younger mercenaries could use a hand with a mission or something, sorry, but I'm not leaving this crew behind just for that, as much as I'd like t-"

"I'm afraid it's something a bit bigger than that", Ignatz interjected. "Intel from the other mercenaries tells me... It sounds like we found your father."

"... You what?"

"Yeah.... Seems he's a pretty notable guy where he is too, but we're hearing some unsettling rumors about his character", the salamander said, nodding. "I know the stuff you're helping this crew here with is important, but I knew that this would be incredibly important to you as well."

Nephenee scratched the back of her head and sighed.

"I mean, you're the leader of a big mercenary band, I'm sure you could provide someone in your ste-"

"It's not that simple, Ignatz", Nephenee retorted, "I can't just have anyone sent in my place to accompany these people that I can trust will treat them well, be able to handle a fullscale adventure, and have the integrity to not get greedy with the treasure that's at stake."

"Well, lucky for you, I met an old friend of yours here that may fit that criteria", Ignatz said with a smile.

"Mm?"

The hooded figure that was also at the table is now standing rather close.

Jane hugs Kauri tight, rubbing his back and hushing gently. Mom mode activating.

"... An old friend, huh?" She asks, looking up to the salamander. "Well, I'm sure they'd let him on. We're kind of a messy group, we don't have a big team strategy in mind."

Bright Eyes forces a smile at Ignatz, although her tail is beginning to flick rapidly. "Ah, mercenary politics," she says. "Always excitin'." She turns to Nephenee for a moment. "Bit of a shame to say goodbye 'fore I even know your name, but we'll manage. I wish you luck dealin' with your father."

She then steps up to face the hooded figure, sizing them up. "So, you're Miss Poison's substitute. Take it you fancy yourself a stealth expert?"

(Ira takes in what the salamander who has approached has to say. He also seems to be a bit disappointed to see Nephenee have to go so soon, but at least it's for a perfectly good reason.) Hey, it was good to get to know you for a little while, Nephenee. Hope things go alright with you and finding your father, too. Think you'd be able to keep in touch with us?
