"No access beyond this point"? (Ira reads. He sighs and starts to turn around.) Well, it was worth a shot, I guess. Where should we go next?

(Having only given the signs a passing glance, Ira initially fails to notice the strangely fails to notice the strangely emphasized letters on them. Ira never was the most perceptive creature.)

Kauri watches the others go, Parada tagging along with them. She's not that much older, is she? Yet, she already said she could take care of herself. (But me… It's sorta like… I'm just another thing to worry about. It feels… kinda… I dunno-) His thoughts are cut short as Jane scoops him up and drops him on her sholders, making him yelp in surprise. "Hwa- O-Okay!" He replies as she takes off.

Aaaahhh fuck, why did I agree to this?

Gabrielle stares at the series of dark, seemingly never-ending tunnels before with intense confusion. So many options, so many things that could go wrong.

Wait, how did mines work again? Maybe she once knew, but after what happened two years ago she never bothered to learn about mining.

Dejectedly, she turns to eeny-meeny-miney-moe.

ETA: Fixed because I forgot to put it in present tense. Maybe I should stop posting so late at night lol

Ezekiel, having went with some of the crew into the mines, gets a look at the multitude of signs and laughs to himself. As if that's going to stop any sort of criminals. Safety General Keats...what a ludicrous title...no doubt if he were to meet this man, his own soul would be rent through the sheer volume of his laughter at the man's existence and insistence that he become "Safety General". He sputters out into light laughter once more before getting his bearings and adjusting his glasses.

"...now hold on a moment..." He runs his hands over one of the signs, realizing a couple of the letters are raised. "Yes, yes...N...O, no, no, no eh, no—" Oh, that's what it says. "No egg."

Well, at least he knows there's something deeper. He moves onto the next sign. "N, O, no—" No egg. "Dammit."

Next sign. "No—blast." It doesn't even take him a full second to register it.

Next sign—"GHH! HOW MANY OF THESE—" He must amend himself: if he ever were to meet Safety General Keats, he would strangle him.

Duane is a little shocked by Eekiel's outburst. He tries to mediate a bit. Jesus, Zeke. No need to lose our temper here! It's just a couple signs. I'm sure we'll find a lead.

If only she obeyed the signs...

Parada follows the others into the mines, quiet all the way. The oppressive atmosphere and surroundings of rock almost reminded her of home. Albeit this place here was a little bit less wet.

Seeing Ezekiel's outburst and .. wanting to do something to calm him down, I guess(?) Parada reaches out a hand and pets Zeke's head.

Klamptrap takes a good look at the signs.

Klamptrap:   These signs seem to have the words "No Egg" hidden on them. In case the signs are trying to trick us, I suggest searching every single tunnel just to be on the safe side, maybe even splitting up to get the job done faster.   

Gabrielle glares at the talking chest.

"Klamptrap, I'm not doing this eeny-meeny-miney-bullshit again."

Here goes nothing, she thinks, sighing.

That’ll take ages! Klamtrap, you’re a treaure chest. Can you like sense treasure? Duane was grasping for straws. But, he figured if Funnybones was in town, then surely they didn’t have all that much time to find the egg before other pirates would come and take it.

Wait, what's going on now? (Ira asks, looking back. It registers with him what Ezekiel was saying and he realizes what's going on.) Ohhhh...well, uh, is there a path that says there IS an egg down it?

(He's just shooting an arrow into the dark and is not expecting to be right.)

"There's gotta be some kind of hint for where the egg might be if these signs bother to tell us "NO EGG"."

Klamptrap grumbles as he responds back to Duane.

Klamptrap:   I'm not some sort of treasure compass! I can taste treasure, not locate them!   

"Well, let's see... One of these signs has the letters "EGG" highlighted, so that's probably a good sign. But what we do with it?" Melvin tries to uproot the signpost.

Melvin succeeds in uprooting the sign, however there is not much visible tunnel ahead. The most Melvin can see behind that sign is a discarded, unlit torch on the ground. It looks recently snuffed out.

Melvin picks up the torch and sniffs it. "Hm... recently used. Well, crew, it seems that we are not alone in this creepy, mysterious mine. Someone, somewhere, is lurking here in the darkness, and we'll have no way of knowing who or what they are until they come..."

"...Maybe they can give us directions!"

So...uh...where do you think they could be? Are there any footprints or anything? (Ira asks, looking around on the ground.)

"Or try and kill us." Ezekiel walks over towards Melvin as the rat examines the torch, only for Ira's comment to get his attention.

"That's not a bad idea," he responds to the dragon, stepping ahead and examining the ground for any footprints. One advantage afforded to his species is that the darkness doesn't take away his ability to see as it does with those of other species; it's not quite like his vision in the light, but it's more than serviceable.

Klamptrap looks closely at the rock walls of the mine.

Klamptrap:   I may not be a treasure compass but I do at least know how to find clues to it. Maybe whoever else was here was also looking for an untapped mineral vein or something, and if so we could use that to find them...assuming that we'd want to find them as who knows what kind of character they are.   

The chest reaches inside himself and brings out a sword that has a built-in gun in the hilt that's pointed in the opposite direction.

   Just bringing out my captain's signature weapon just in case.

Ezekiel and Ira, upon close inspection would see two tracks of hoof-like prints, leading both forward and backward from the mine. They seem like they were made earlier that day.

Well, I see these prints. (Ira says, pointing out the footprints (or hoofprints, to be more accurate) on the ground.)

Melvin looks down at the hoofprints. "Ah, how interesting. Good eyes, you two," he says, giving Ezekiel a quick pat on the head despite knowing he would hate it.

"Shall we go deeper, then?"

"Uh, onwards, I guess." Gabrielle replies.

As much as she'd like to not go down those endless tunnels, she had no choice. If one of the shards was down there, it was down there.

The crew head down the tunnel, but the further they go down, it only gets darker. A repeated series of snuffed torches is found in their path. Even when they can’t see, they can still bump into the torches occasionally.

The chest muses to himself, trying to offset his worries about what's ahead.

Klamptrap:   Hooves... hopefully this will be like the time my captain had the crew party with a satyr...
