Samurai 8: Masashi Kishimoto's next Serialized Manga

I’m rather liking the level of tech.

People appear to be casually cybernetic & all Samurai only have mechanical bodies with no apparent fleshy bits. I’m curious how far they will take the concept with characters abilities, weapons, & personal appearances.

Sure Bort is doing a cyber-ninja bit but this is on such another level that it makes Bort look like a chump.

How is the official translation? I tried a fan translation but the constant use of "thou" and the like turned me off. Is the official translation any better?

Only one character speaks like that. Its because he's an old fashion samurai. And the reason for two characters doing it at the beginning plays into the first chapter twist.

Alright... Having read this from Jamini's Box. I gotta say its a pretty decent first start I guess. For me, art feels clunky in several places and the story is alright. Would agree that the Starter Villain's design is a little bit like Kakashi and unlike Naruto, the MC still has his parent alive (His father to be exact and he tries to protect him) and the MC himself is disabled but ended up becoming a powerful samurai at the end of the day accompanied with a cat like creature. Apparently, a god named Acala locked 7 Pandora Box to save the universe I guess.

So I read the Mangaplus translation. Not only is the exposition easier to digest, the art also comes off better − the flat shadowing I was complaining about in my first comment was apparently more of a cleaning issue. So that's good. There are some parts that I understood better the second time around too.

(also, they mercifully spared us the Antiquated Linguistics in this version…)

In short, I strongly advise to read this on Mangaplus (or in Japanese if you can, obviously), it definitely enhances the experience.

Oof... Alrity... But sadly, I dont know what tropes to add and my grammar is shitty as hell ._.

Someone in YMMV added a Fandom Rivalry entry with EDENS ZERO… Is there any actual trace of that yet?

So that first chapter wasn't bad, but the exposition was kind of clunky, and certain things about the art a bit hard to follow. Still, intriguing enough.

Second chapter's out.

The nameless character is definitely a girl. There's a panel where you can see a boob curve.

man the hand thing is pretty messed up.

Those splash pages were pure delight. <3 I feel it's been a long time since a shonen has given me this sense of a vast, bustling fantasy world. It's refreshing. The new character's pretty neat too.

I really don't care for the cannon fodder villains though. =[ Hopefully they're dealt with swiftly.

Man, it's always hard to tell when it comes to manga and anime. When they want to make a character's gender ambiguous, they go whole hog. We'll see what gender nameless is soon enough I suppose.

Nameless having their left and right hands talk as well got a chuckle out of me.

Surely we're gonna need a "talk to the hand" joke somewhere.

I've been jebaited before when the ambiguously gendered character in a shounen work has the cutest dynamic with the main character but it turns out they're a guy or (in the case of what baited me) decide not to let themselves transition to girl and stay in-between sexes. Thanks UQ Holder. So I'm keeping my expectations low.

I guess it's probably gonna remain ambiguous, with no confirmation one way or another.

Normally I'd be all for introducing a trans girl character in a shonen… but considering how Kishi handles female characters in general, I'm quite afraid if that's the case…

I mean we can just have Nobody remain nonbinary and competent.

Not sure if that's possible.

Well, when I read "male body but female soul" that's the first thing that came to my mind… but then Noname said they didn't know themself, so I don't either…

It's not very clear, but that's a possibility… We don't quite know how advanced the AIs are in their world.
