I hope dvorah looks good in motion, not a fan of her look in the still. Man I'm glad NR was smart enough to keep her. She's looking quite savage.

Kabal looks SICK. His fatal blow and fatality were AWESOME.

I disagree, i like that she looks more bug like this time.

Her body looks like it’s made out of wasp nest, and it’s freaky as hell.

She is still rocking the No Yay. I love it.

I'm glad D'Vorah could make it, and I actually know nothing about Kabal, seeing as I joined the fandom with X.

Oh, welcome to Mortal Kombat! Ridiculously over-the-top brutality to the point that it stops being gruesome and becomes funny, a surprisingly rich lore, and fun character designs are basically what you can expect to find here.

Seriously, the violence is hilarious. I miss MK 3's goresplosions. You could punch a dude so hard he erupted into a random assortment of bones that are far more than a human has in his body. Three skulls, five rib cages, seven femurs....

Who remembers Johnny Cage's decapitation fatality where he could punch three heads off a person?

They’re not even hiding that Kabal is now The Flash, are they?

People do need to chill out about recycle animations & models. Not everything can look so pristine as people want.

No. Not everyone that people aren't crazy about is a Base-Breaking Character. I've seen that thrown around a lot around this site lately.

That's actually been bothering me a lot lately, I thought our mods been watching the Base Breaker & Broken Base trope for awhile now.

If you do get the chance, I do recommend playing or youtubing MK 9. Kabal made his debut in MK 3.

Kano did say once that could give Kabal a run for his money. Guess someone wanted to give Kabal one thing he had over the Flash.smile

About as much Pietro can give Wally a run for his money.

Alright, so what's Kabal's story? Is he sort of like Kano in that he's just an asshole that inconveniences the cast at times?

[up]In 9 he was a former Black Dragon member that went legit, became a cop, but then was horribly, horribly burnt. Kano saved his life by hooking him up to that suit and mask but he escaped and joined the heroes. Then Sindel killed him.

So in this timeline, he’s a good guy.

I think in the original he was a neutral party and former black dragon.

Maybe he is the old timeline version. I cant recall how he got burned there.

They never quite gave the story other than that he was attacked by Shao Kahn’s forces and assisted the Earthrealm resistance. He ended up evil again because Mavado tried to kill him for his hook swords, but Havik saved him and presumably messed with his head.

Speaking of Kabal, given how his reveal trailer where he's pitted against Sub-Zero Kuai Liang referenced 9 (Kabal's fight with Cyber Kuai Liang), does that mean he'll end up free from being a revenant?

There's time travel involved, so he could be a previous version.

Original Timeline: Kabal was a member of the Black Dragon syndicate like Kano. When Shao Kahn, Emperor of Outworld, broke the Rules of Mortal Kombat via cheating and brought his invasion forces into Earthrealm, Kabal was attacked by Kahn's Extermination Forces and left horribly scarred and with his windpipe slit. He was forced to wear a respirator to survive.

While the story of the early games is not as well defined as the later ones, we know that Kabal's desire for revenge against Shao Kahn and his forces led him to join Earthrealm's defenders. Despite his criminal past, Kabal stood with the rest of Earthrealm's warriors - after all, a multidimensional alien invasion is basically an Outside-Context Problem for a man whose life is defined as "Cops and Robbers", so standard allegiances may not apply.

During the events of MK 3, something happened to Kabal that caused him to abandon his life of crime entirely by the end. He recanted his past as a member of the Black Dragon Syndicate, set out to do some good with his life instead, and was promptly murdered by Mavado, leader of the rival Red Dragon Syndicate.

To my knowledge, it's unclear who started the fight. Mavado ambushing Kabal for his past Black Dragon affiliations and Kabal attacking Mavado to try and bring him to justice are both reasonable assumptions.

In any case, being brutally murdered by Mavado seemed to have an effect on Kabal's good intentions. Havik, a cleric of Chaos from the eldritch Chaosrealm, resuscitated Kabal and asked him to restore the Black Dragon to its former glory so that they could spread chaos and anarchy throughout Earthrealm. Kabal was like, "Yeah, sure. Whatever." And leapt right into it.

Kabal recruited two new members and was like, "Boom, Black Dragon is back in business. Now let's talk about hunting down and murdering Mavado." In Deception and Armageddon, Kabal and his new Black Dragon Syndicate are minor villains who antagonize protagonists Shujinko and Taven in the course of their war with other bad guy faction, the Red Dragon.

Bit of a waste, really. MK 3 left him in an interesting place and then Deception and Armageddon kinda f*cked it by making him Kano Lite. Like. We already have a Kano. His name is Kano. He sold out Earthrealm to jump onboard the Shao Kahn train and never looked back, moving from bad guy to bad guy like "Yo, I hear you're the new evilest dude in these parts, let's talk about my services."

As a Black Dragon member who joined Earthrealm's defense forces when the Godzilla Threshold was crossed and then got to liking the work, Kabal had a unique dynamic that could have been built on. And then they didn't, because Deception and Armageddon are terrible.

Reboot Timeline Kabal is basically that whole bit from MK 9 except then he died instead of having a change of heart and reforming.

[up][up] He was already reformed in 9’s timeline. He had left the Black Dragon to become a cop.

Also, this is probably Kabal from the height of his time with the Black Dragon. We have his unburned appearance, and his buzzsaw is explicitly described during the stream as a Black Dragon gadget.

But he's still wearing his mask and has his super speed powers which according to MK 9 were a result of dark magic used to save his life.

To my knowledge, it's unclear who started the fight. Mavado ambushing Kabal for his past Black Dragon affiliations and Kabal attacking Mavado to try and bring him to justice are both reasonable assumptions.

Kabal's Deception bio states he was attacked by Mavado.

NRS's description for his reveal on You Tube says he was ressurrected as an evil version of himself, but he doesn't look like a Quan Chi revenant, so maybe he's working for Liu Kang and Kitana.

Then again, the default for Liu Kang and Kitana in X weren't their revenant selves either.
