It's 1940, and the world will be nothing like you've ever known.

Roleplay Thread

Something brews under the shadow of what will be one of the greatest conflicts the world will ever see. Under the sands of North Africa, an ancient power stirs as the great nations clash and thunder. And within one of these countries, secretive groups slaver for the opportunity to grasp this might. Its goal? To conquer all the known world and beyond!

But all is not lost! With the agreement of the nascent Allied government, a secretive office is formed to combat the horrors from within and without. From all walks of life and occupations they come, their motives equally as diverse.

They are Project Canticle.

Eyes up, recruits! In this roleplaying game, you are the Allies' first line of defense against the strange and mind-bending forces that the Axis will seek to bring to bear! You play anything; from soldiers to students, stevedores to socialites, even masked avengers. Where you come from? Any nation on the map! Or even those unrecorded yet.

We're going for historical fiction played fast and loose here, along with so much pulp goodness that Jack Kirby'd jump up to kick ass right alongside you! Cutting edge science, good ol' fashioned firepower, and your own pluck and resolve are at your disposal.

So are you ready to fight the good fight?

A few rules:

1. Follow Daltar's TV Tropes RP rules. Be excellent to one another, no auto-hitting, no beating people over the head with historical facts, etc. We're all here to have fun.

2. Power Levels here range from Iron Weight 1 on the Muggle Tier to Abnormal Weight 2 on the Super Tier. While you can be costumed adventurers, I would truly prefer Badass Normals to take center stage.

3. I am only allowing one (1) truly supernatural character. It's not "first come, first served," so you better come up with something that pops.

4. Other than that, just have fun!

  • Name: Amelie Laurent/Miss Midnight
  • Age: 24
  • Gender: Female
  • Nationality: French
  • Description: In her everyday appearance She appears as a blonde, well-dressed high-society woman. For her nights out she tends to dress in a more flamboyant manner
  • Occupation: Socialite/Phantom Thief
  • Skills and Equipment: Most of her skills and equipment are a product of her upbringing in the circus. As such she is a skilled acrobat, knife thrower, whip-user, forger and stage magician. She's also figured out how to use her cane for battle as well. Her equipment similarly echoes this, coming equipped with a cane, throwing knives, a whip and flash paper.
    • Power: Amelie has a minor metahuman power which helps her learn faster and aids in her reputation as a Phantom Thief. With a touch she can learn the surface level thoughts of the person touched. This process leaves the target slightly tired but not disabled by any means.
  • Personality: Amelie plays herself as a vapid socialite, for the crowds and occupiers. However in reality she is angry and vengeful for the destruction of her home and adopted family. However given that she was raised in a theatrical environment she more often opts for humiliation rather than assassination although for some humiliation just isn't enough.
  • Back Story: Amelie was originally came to the Laurent circus as a young girl, having been part of the freakshow at her previous circus due to her odd ability. The ringmaster and owner of Laurent circus, kind man that he was, adopted the girl and began teaching her reading and writing, being the last scion of a wealthy family. As she grew up she endeared herself to several of the circus performers who worked for her adopted father, who were more than happy to teach her their skills as well. And for a time she was happy. However with the Nazi invasion of France, the times grew harder. One day while she was at market buying supplied the blitzkreig reached the area where the circus was camped. She returned to find her home destroyed, her father missing and everyone else dead. About six months later, a high society woman claiming to be the last surviving member of the old Laurent house appeared and began making waves in the Paris social scene. At the same time a mysterious theif began plundering items that the Nazi forces stole and critical troop movement information, always leaving a note which disappeared shortly after being found, said notes claiming that this master theif could steal thoughts even from her target's very mind. Often the items of theft were found already sitting in French resistance bases with their own note: "Courtesy of the mademoiselle that comes at midnight" . Thus giving rise to her monicure among the population at large.
  • Other: "It's madamoiselle, not miss, get it right if you're planning on recruiting me to your little endeavor!"

Late at night (i.e. early in the morning), threw this together, don't even know if it's balanced or sensical or whatever. Don't care, just wanna get the idea out somewhere before it's lost to dreamland. So peace. And I hope it's legible.

  • Name: Lux “Lucky” Fairmont.
  • Age: 17.
  • Gender: Female.
  • Nationality: British.
  • Description: “My apologies. Do I disturb you so?” Merely 4"11' in height. Somewhat ratty clothing and malnourished form, contrasting with her rather firm stature and practiced movements. Eyes are extraordinarily large for her face and glow like lamps—rarely seeming to have the need for blinking.
  • Occupation: None (Street Rat).
  • Skills and Equipment:
    • Street Smarts: Years of living amidst the rodents in the back alleys have given Lux a strong sense of environmental instinct and attentiveness—meaning she can pick up on odd postures and gaits in a person in order to read their intent through body language (something she's not very subtle about doing with eyes the size of dinner plates). While not a natural liar (anything but in fact), her monotonous tone tends to be very unreadable which she uses to her advantage in catching people off-guard for long enough for her to snatch something she can use from them. Intense situations and the less than kind streets have given her a hand in escapology, a high flexibility and speed, plus exceptional stamina to go along with it—although her physical strength is absolutely pathetic in comparison.
      • Metabolism-Fueled Plasmogenesis: Lux's only metahuman ability; an extraordinarily limited and dangerous form of plasma generation that is powered by her body's stored fats and carbs. Her body temperature is at a constantly high rate as a result of its tremendous output of electrical potential, and she has the ability to expel said latent potential out through her skin as short-ranged blasts of intense heat. Unfortunately, the ability is extremely draining to her—made worse by her already weakened state in malnourishment—and the blasts tend to rend the flesh on her hands away (or indeed anywhere she expels it from). A telltale harbinger of her abilities is the brightening of her yellowish eyes—intriguingly, they seem to dim to a dull brown or amber once she has expelled her full supply of plasma. While a large blast (about a metre or so in width and that plus a half in length) can immediately sap her of her stored potential, small expulsions (about the size of a tennis ball) can be useful up close to blind or cause severe first-degree burns on her foes and leave her more to use later (granted if her hands have clotted over enough by then). Since her ability invariably leaves her doubled-over in starvation and cripplingly agonized after each and every usage, Lux reserves it for emergencies only—relying on her intimidating, unblinking gaze in order to cause enough pause for her to flee from any conflict.
  • Personality: Calm and collected upon first glance—frightened and world-weary at the next. Lux has a cynical, live and let die mindset to her, rarely bothering about anyone's wellbeing but her own mainly due to her violent distrust of people and their intentions. Her paranoia is fueled primarily by the memories of her own naïve acceptance of ‘help’ from certain strangers before whilst she was at her lowest points—the experience of which has left her extremely volatile in regards to physical touch and prone to lash out or flee if something or somebody catches her off guard or touches a particular nerve. Indeed, her fight-or-flight system is so poorly wired at this point that sometimes she may only react explosively to relatively minor things—a clatter of falling objects, an accidental bump into someone on the streets—and completely freeze up in fear in regards to situations of genuine danger. Lux is a person who would require patience to work with and figure out her boundaries, most definitely—but her attentiveness is to a T and her logic is sound enough. While no strategist, her down-to-earth thinking and practicality (when it isn't clouded by anxiety) is certainly something to behold for a girl in her situation.
  • Backstory: If Lux had any complete memory of her state before living on the streets she probably wouldn't be able to tell of it anyhow. As far as she is concerned her earliest conceivable thoughts were of toddling about aimlessly in rags at an age simply too young whilst having an inward battle with ingrained morals as to whether or not she should take the apple lying so temptingly and unobserved all on its own in the fruit stall in that quaint little London marketplace she visits so very often now.note  Her status as a street rat hasn't seemed to have affected her rather posh manner of speech in the slightest despite the more crude accents infesting the more slummish areas of London, although this may be more to do with the fact that she has rarely interacted with her fellow street-dwellers and kept her territory mostly to the rural, upper-class areas of the city. Now at an age where she should be even more wary of her wellbeing, Lux is finding her hands calloused more and more as she finds herself cornered in back alley after back alley by unsavoury individuals and having to fight her way out using her bizarre, intensely fatiguing but immensely satisfying abnormal ability. With what little experience she's had with it, she's managing to keep collateral to a down low—but food is scarce for a hormone-addled teen, and she's finding herself in predicaments more and more...
  • Other: Notably left-handed and left-footed. Tends to sway in her stance when not under scrutinization. Almost always attempts to sleep sitting or standing up—and invariably fails. If she feels she's safe enough to sleep, that is.

  • Name: Dr. Victoria Stryker
  • Age: 29
  • Gender: Female
  • Nationality: Brittish
  • Description: A woman of average height, she stands at 5'8 with piercing grey eyes and shoulder-length black hair. She can commonly be found wearing a (generally white) blouse, black pants, and a brown longcoat. When she has to attend something stuffy and formal, she throws on a suitcoat, and unless she's quite literally barred entry to whatever formal event it is, vehemently refuses to wear a dress. Not because she dislikes dresses, in fact she finds them quite spiffy and fashionable, but on principle.
  • Occupation: Spy (well, technically intelligence analyst, but she likes to call herself a spy)
  • Skills and Equipment:
    • Pistol: A standard Enfield no. 2 service revolver. She's a competent enough shot with it, and she's fired it in self-defence, but she'd not exactly a trained soldier. Issued upon transfer to her... new assignment.
    • Investigative skills: As she'll be the first to tell you she's a a spy, not a soldier, and she is damn good at her job. Her job isn't so much gathering intelligence as it is interpreting it, but, well, before she joined the SIS she was an archaeologist (and a rather underappreciated one, if she does say so herself, and she does, often) and, well, turns out the two aren't alltogether too different. It's just that the bodies still smell when you're a spy.
  • Personality: Blunt and to the point, she has an often irritating tendency to speak her mind on subjects on which her council was not sought. She certainly doesn't buck the stereotype of British dry wit, and it's generally a safe assumption that whatever remark she made was snide.
  • Backstory: Born shortly after the turn of the century to a family of very successful industrialists, she was raised by her mother, her father a basically nonexistant sight in her early life as he was always out on some business trip. So, she grew up to her mother wishing that she could do something other than be a housewife. Coming of age during the tail end of the Roaring Twenties, her mother talked her father into paying for her to go off to college, where she studied archaeology. During her schooling, the Depression hit, but her parents were well enough off that they were able to avoid the worst of the Depression.
Then war came. As the bombs started dropping on Britain, she quit her job at the university and joined the SIS... where she was promptly stuffed into a job analyzing intelligence. This suited her and her talents perfectly fine, with absolutely no interest in fieldwork. Unfortunately for her, her superiors found her (or, rather, her entirely justified complaints about workplace inequality and her results being treated as second-rate) basically unbearable. So, with a new task force being formed and her skills as an intelligence analyst proven, they promptly decided to make her somebody else's problem and got on with their lives.

Shit

  • Name: Rhona, current alias Iona MacBain

  • Age: Somewhere in the neighbourhood of 1,900 years, physically in her late 20s

  • Gender: Female

  • Nationality: Scottish/Canadian

  • Description: Used to dress a little something like this (looks are more or less the same), but nowadays Rhona tends to dress more casually, favouring a simple work shirt, trousers and boots combination. Additionally, Rhona is missing the tip of her left ring finger, lost in a sword fight countless centuries ago.

  • Occupation: Mechanic/Casual antiques collector

  • Skills and Equipment:

    • Skills: A long life brings about a great deal of skill to the table, in Rhona's case, she's found something of a minor knack for technology over the past few centuries, eventually taking up work as a mechanic in the mid-30s. While not the best at her job, Rhona's arguably one of the best in her field when it comes to dealing with older vehicles as well as actually having the tools and parts to repair them. Additionally, Rhona is multilingual, speaking English, German, French, Latin, Italian, Old Norse and various Gaelic dialects, though admittedly, Rhona has a tendency to use semi-archaic terms from time to time. On the combat front, Rhona knows her way around firearms and various bladed weapons, though her weapons of choice are the Gladius and Colt 1911. While not a skill per se, due to Rhona's age and accumulated head wounds, she has something of a fuzzy memory with many key moments of her life lost to the aether.

    • Equipment: As alluded to above, Rhona's weapons of choice are a Roman Gladius and a Colt M1911 pistol. The Gladius is an old, and well maintained blade, dating back to a century or two before the fall of Rome (Rhona isn't sure where she picked it up, but she's had it for nearly as long as she can remember). As a backup weapon, Rhona carries another rather old weapon in the form of a broken-back seax. Other than that, Rhona has a modest farm near Niverville, Manitoba and owns a Ford Model T.

    • Immortality: For reasons beyond her ken, Rhona does not age and cannot be easily killed by mortal means, while she isn't entirely sure what it would take to kill her, her handful of encounters with similarly non-aging people throughout the centuries has led her to surmise that severe head trauma (decapitation, skull being crushed, etc.) is what it would take to end her life permanently. Other than that, Rhona is more or less human, and will 'die' if she sustains enough damage, though she'll usually pop back up after being down for a few hours and most wounds that don't remove parts of her body will eventually heal up over time.

  • Personality: Rhona is a bit of a loner, actively avoiding larger cities and keeping to herself and her work whenever possible. This self-imposed exile is more or less an inevitable side effect of her immortality, as seeing so many friends, family and loved ones dying over the past several hundred years has hurt her more than she's willing to outwardly admit, thus leading to her trying to avoid that pain as much as possible. It's not a common occurence, but on occasion, a worthy cause will bring Rhona out of her exile and back onto the battlefield once again.

  • Back Story: Born during the Roman occupation of Britain, Rhona has little memory of her early life before she first discovered her immortality. What little she does remember of this time is fighting the Roman forces under Queen Boudicca and eventually falling on the battlefield, only to rise again the next day, severely wounded, but still alive. Unsure of what to do with herself, Rhona more or less floated from town to town, never really settling in one place for very long. After a few years of deliberation on her current status, Rhona eventually decided to try and do what she could to help free her people from Roman oppression, joining in the fight whenever battle was met between Celtic and Roman forces. It was this rise to action that led to Rhona's eventual decision to oppose tyranny at every given opportunity throughout time. Over the next several centuries, Rhona would see battle at Zama, Bannockburn, Hastings and finally Agincourt, before lying low for a few centuries.

  • It was sometime in the 18th century that Rhona moved overseas to the United states, eventually fighting in the Revolutionary war before eventually settling down in Canada for a few centuries, partially out of a distaste for the large cities springing up in the US, as well as simply wanting to distance herself from war for once. Finding herself with a surplus of spare time, Rhona picked up a few jobs working on railroads and in docks, as she actively despised the jobs that she was expected to be performing, before 'retiring' and spending her accumulated modest wealth on a small farm a few kilometers out of Winnipeg, spending her time tending to her animals and meagre crops and occasionally trading with people in the nearby Niverville whenever money was tight. When the first World War rocked the planet, it was the first major conflict that she actively chose to sit out, seeing no real injustice to fight, as well as knowing she'd be rejected if she attempted to enlist.

  • However, with the outbreak of the second World War and hearing of the atrocities being commited by the Axis forces, Rhona attempted to join the battle with the Canadian forces, but wasn't permitted a frontline position, but various intelligence and air force positions, which Rhona knew full well she wouldn't take to. With her Gladius and pistol in hand, Rhona sold her livestock and stowed away on an aircraft heading for Europe. Upon arrival overseas, Rhona began waging a small scale one-woman guerilla war against the Nazis, sabotaging vehicles and occasionally taking out semi-important targets.

  • Name: Aaron
  • Age: Three
  • Gender: Nonapplicable.
  • Nationality: Polish
  • Description: Aaron is tall, broad shouldered and an almost literal mountain of a man. His chin is almost square and he has a mop of brown hair and glowing blue eyes. Carved, literally, into his forehead is the word ‘Emet’ which Aaron is notably protective of.
Clothing wise, Aaron tends to be rather drab. The fanciest thing he likes is Aviator jackets, particularly fur lined ones. However, he always rips up the clothes he has in line with a Hewbrew morning tradition.
  • Occupation: Cover
  • Skills and Equipment:
    • Stone: Aaron is quite literally made of stone, offering him above average resistance to moth weapons, or to serve as moving cover.
    • Inhuman strength and resilience.
    • Bullet Resistance
    • Several grenades
    • A well-used paper holding a prayer for the dead.
    • If the carving on his forehead is completrly erased, Aaron is rendered immobile until it is reapplied.
  • Personality: Aaron is driven. He doesn’t roar, he doesn’t scream he merely marches onto the next set of foes. He has done his mourning and now, he is doing his best to save those who still live. However, Aaron is also only three years old. He is well-read, yes, but there is a difference between reading about the world and seeing it. As such, he is often struck with almost childlike wonder at the sight of animals, particularly deer. He is rather irritated with the fact they aren’t in Poland and may become a liability with his need to defend any town against any attack, strategic worth or no.
  • Back Story: Aaron is a golem, a man made of stone to defend a community. Unfortunately, one golem does not defend against dozens of artillery fire, tanks and the like and so Aaron was left partially destroyed as the place he was meant to defend was destroyed. A month later, he was dug up and brought into project canticle and, due to his sheer need to defend towns almost serving as a potential liability, they decided to move him to North Africa to his joy, frustration and anger at being unable to protect those he was charged by.
  • Other: Aaron does not eat, drink, sleep or breath.

Hmm...I'm interested. Well, here's my entry

  • Name: "Triste Mietitore" (real name: Matteo Mortelli)
  • Age: 30 years old.
  • Nationality: Italian.
  • Description: Matteo is 6'0" tall, muscular (but still a bit lean), and with a light tan. He's bald and has a really slight gray beard. He wears a tank top and plain brown pants, along with a tattered black cape and hood.
  • Occupation: farmer (former), soldier (former), rebel.
  • Skills and Equipment: Being a former soldier in the Italian army made him more agile, stronger and stealthier.
    • Power: He has a minor empowerment power that can make him empower two objects at time. The empowerment power gets activated when Matteo is feeling really strong emotions. If he decides to empower another object, one of the two objects that he has already empowered will return to normal.
    • Reaping Scythe: This empowered scythe can extend its handle (which is 5'3" long) to double its length.
    • Reaper's Cloth: Matteo's cloth and hood got empowered to make him invisibile in the darkness. The invisibility is undone when the hood and/or the cape are in contact with light.
  • Personality: Matteo has a strong (and maybe twisted) sense of justice. He's serious and quiet. When in an awfully bad mood, he can be calmed down (it won't be difficult, but it won't be easy either). He's really nostalgic about his childhood in his grandfather's farm.
  • Backstory: Born as an orphan the 13th of August in 1910, he got taken in by his grandfather to his farm, where he learned how to farm wheat. In 1934, he got enrolled in the military along his future best friend Lorenzo Levi. The two soldier grew a strong bond over these four years until, in 1938, Lorenzo got killed by a fellow soldier, who supported antisemitism, and was getting sick at Matteo and Lorenzo's friendship. Matteo, who was sad and enraged at his friend's death, he beat his friend's murderer up and escaped, disappearing from the other soldiers memories. He stole a scythe and a black cloth, which he modified into a cape and hood. With this, he discovered that he empowered them, thanks to strong hatred he was feeling at the moment. During the following biennium, several carvings on various fascists' houses in Italy were found, mostly saying things like "Is this our way?". Other people, who also supported fascism, claim to have seen a cloaked man wandering around their houses. If they tried to approach or follow him, he would disappear. From these sightings, the nickname "Triste Mietitore" was used to refer to the mysterious man, who some people have theorized he was behind the carvings.
  • Other: He's got a really heavy Sicilian accent (the stereotypical Italian accent).

  • Name: Sage Miller
  • Age: 15
  • Gender: Female
  • Nationality: American
  • Description: 5'2" and 125 lbs. Has a distinct, far-reaching stare and more than a few scars on her. Limps and slouches slightly. Can sometimes be seen with a straw in her mouth.
  • Occupation: Student/Farmer
  • Skills & Equipment:
    • Perfect Memory: Since she's charged with keeping her family's financial records and has to remember a lot of things for school, she's developed a method to remember everything she deems important. It's similar to the Memory Palace method. She can also do quick mathematical problems using this method.
    • Clear Mind: Sage's mind has been fortified as a result of her using her "Memory Palace" method to remember things. She has a laser focus on anything that she does, and has less of a chance to be distracted. Sage can force her body to ignore moderate amounts of pain and nausea, though it will take a toll on her later.
    • Shotgun: Since her family's fields are frequently beset by crows and other unsavory pests, her parents taught her how to use a shotgun. She's a crackshot—something that came in handy when German soldiers took over her village.
  • Personality: Sage is hardworking, but cheerful. She is polite and generally tries to help others. Sage lives up to her name, as she is studious and likes to read. Her biggest aspiration is to go to college and become a professor. After repelling a band of German soldiers from taking over her town, she's determined to stop it from happening to anyone else.
  • Backstory:
    • Sage's rural hometown of Newsummer was an idyllic place to live and grow up in—something that contributed to her cheery character. When she was young, she was charged with her family's bookkeeping since she was good at math (and she would need to know how to do it in the future). Her parents encouraged her to read and go to school.
    • One fine spring day, a band of German soldiers was dispatched to occupy her town. Resistance was predicted to be minimal, since the population of Newsummer was small and few residents had guns. They looted and otherwise terrorized the town when they arrived, and would have managed to take over the town if not for one mistake—the soldiers decided to cause trouble in Sage's school.
    • Since the soldiers brought the townspeoples' confiscated guns with them, Sage was able to steal one of them. Because the soldiers let down their guard, they didn't see it coming. She induced a standoff and bluffed them into submission by saying that American troops had been called in.
    • Since then, Sage has been practicing with her shotgun just in case the Germans decide to send a bigger force to take Newsummer. That was when she got a call...
  • Other:
    • Sage fiddles and plays the harmonica in her spare time.

    • Failed Super Soldier: S-132 is a failed super soldier project by the Nazis, and while she does not possess quite the level of ability they wanted, she ended up being given a body that is at peak human physical condition. Though her physical abilities are limited to only being within the realm of human possibility. For example, she can run like an Olympic-level athlete, but she cannot punch clean through a brick wall. She also has issues from her respiratory system not having grown to match her new physique, so if she uses her abilities too often, she will be out of breath and have difficulty breathing.
    • Languages: Anna does know a few languages besides German, most notably English, French, Russian, and Polish. She was taught these languages so she could listen in on enemy radio conversations.
    • Weaponry: S-132 has weaponry from her time as a soldier for the Nazis, and the training and skill to use them all. These include a pair of Walther P38 pistols, a Maschinenpistole 40 submachine gun, a Kampfmesser 42 combat knife, and several grenades of both the Model 24 and Model 39 variations.
    • Gas Mask: As mentioned before, S-132 does have a gas mask for her own use.

  • Personality: S-132 is...very focused and cold in her objectives. She's a soldier with little trace of the civilian girl she once was left in her, preferring not to talk too much or get attached to other people unless she has to. But she does harbor a great deal of contempt for the Nazis and their ideologies, having once done their dirty work, and sees herself as being in need of redemption for having aided their takeover of Poland through her own blind obedience. And deep down...she does wish she was never chosen to be made into a failed super soldier because of that. But perhaps finding new comradery amongst the Allies could maybe reawaken the ordinary, cheerful girl she once was deep down...if they treat her less like a weapon and more like a person.

  • Back Story:
    • S-132 was once a common, ordinary citizen of the Third Reich in its early days, named Anna Drevis. Blond-haired, blue-eyed, and beautiful, she was the picture of their belief in the so-called "Aryan Master Race" in all but physique. And that was why she was kidnapped by scientists working for the Nazi Party roughly two years ago, altered with serums and surgeries that ultimately did not work as intended. They thought her "pure Aryan blood" would miraculously work with the process to make her a superhuman soldier capable of inhuman feats, but instead what they got out of it was a woman with a peak human physique that could only do things in the realm of human possibility and a respiratory system that couldn't keep up with her abilities for very long.
    • Though they were sorely disappointed in these results, she was still trained to be a member of the Wehrmacht, as an unfeeling super-soldier who would kill on their command. And after several months of training, she saw her first deployments in several secret theaters across Europe. She was exceptionally skilled with her guns, killing who she was told to with little hesitation. But everything changed after she was sent to aid in the German invasion of Poland. Though she did as she was told and killed many soldiers for the Nazis, she saw the aftermath of the German victory over Poland. The people of this country were suffering under German rule, being crushed underfoot by the Nazis with little mercy...and S-132 had helped them take over to begin with. After realizing the weight of what her blind obedience had done, she became disillusioned with the Nazis, their ideologies, and all that they stood for, she tore off her patches and deserted the army. Now seeking redemption for what she has done, perhaps the Allies will let her help stop the Nazis from doing this to anyone else...

  • Name: Will Speare, formerly Dr. Lucas Black
  • Age: 36 (currently looks to be his early 20s, for reasons mentioned below)
  • Gender: Male
  • Nationality: British
  • Description: Tall and gaunt, yet well-built, with black hair and icy, yet unfocused, blue eyes. His skin has grown pale since finding the lance, and he looks considerably younger as well, prompting the use of a pseudonym, and he tends to dress practically.
  • Occupation: Former Archaeologist
  • Skills and Equipment:
    • Skills: To start with, the Dr part of his name isn't fake — Lucas currently holds a doctorate in Archaeology from Cambridge, and as such is no slacker when it comes to history and/or excavations. That being said, he's also no stranger to fighting to keep alive — while his aim with a pistol has suffered since his loss of sight, he's shown no issue in fisticuffs or lance-fighting.
    • Vlad Tepes's Lance: Whether or not Vlad Tepes actually was a vampire, the fact still stands that his lance seems to be no ordinary weapon. It has shown little sign of corrosion in spite of being left unused for almost 500 years and seems to be powered by blood. Since Dr. Black accidentally activated the lance, it has granted him various abilities.
      • Healing: with enough blood absorbed by the lance, Dr. Black can find himself healing faster from wounds, bouncing back from the effects of exhaustion or sleep deprivation, and, with particularly high amounts of blood fed to the lance, can potentially reverse the effects of aging. Unfortunately, the healing is only accelerated — if he were unable to heal something normally anyways, this ability isn't going to fix it. His sight won't return, he won't regrow limbs if they're cut off, and he won't come back from the dead.
      • Senses: Interestingly, his senses have heightened since he bonded with the lance. In particular, his sense of hearing has been heightened to the point that he can easily get around without assistance, but his senses of taste, smell and touch are also sharp. It does leave him at risk of sensory overload at times, though.
  • Personality: Dr. Black takes his job very seriously. To him, if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right, whether it's excavating a site or taking down Nazis. He also tends to be very driven in what he does and tends to react to failure by beating himself up. He's still grieving the loss of his family and is at a loss for what he'll do once the war is over, but he's boxed it all up inside, concentrating solely on the task at hand.
  • Back Story:
    • It's a shame what happened to Dr. Black. He started well, graduated from Cambridge with honors and established a quite impactful career as an archaeologist, all while also starting a family with novelist Maria De La Cruz.
    • But the excavation of the tomb of Vlad the Impaler was where it went wrong. Normally, coming across, and then nicking his hand on, the lance of one of Romania's heroes, wouldn't be an issue, at least once the wound was disinfected. Unfortunately, the Nazis needed it for a ritual and learned the hard way that the lance now would only work with Dr. Black. So they decided to abduct Maria and their daughter Charlotte and used them as a means to get Dr. Black to cooperate.
    • What exactly happened afterward, the doctor refuses to mention. What is known, though, was that Mary and Charlotte were found dead by poison and that the Nazis involved had all been impaled, with no blood left in their bodies. As for Dr. Black, other members of the project would find him miles from the base, blinded and looking almost two decades younger, the lance gripped tightly in his hands. With no way to go back to his old life, Dr. Black must go forward, if only to prevent more innocent lives from being lost.
  • Other: Will add once I think of something.

  • Name: "Maharlika" (Mayumi Santos)
  • Age: 67 (Looks around 30)
  • Gender: Female
  • Nationality: Filipina
  • Description: A very short and petite woman, around 4 feet 10 inches. Her hair is curly and untamable, black, as is her eyes. She has light brown skin, and she has a beauty mark below her right eye. She usually dresses in a truly odd mixture of gowns, shawls and scarves, but switches to practical shirt and pants on the job, so to speak.
  • Occupation: Fortune Teller, former Rebel
  • Skills and Equipment:
    • The Agimat: Mayumi's most prized possesion as well as the source of most of her oddities, the Agimat looks like a simple golden coin engraved with a stylized bird (The Adarna). Mayumi wears it as a pendant, with a simple leather cord around her neck. The Agimat grants the following abilities:
      • Slowed Aging/Faster Healing - Mayumi found the Agimat as a teenager and it seems to have permanently slowed her aging. At 67, she's still in her physical prime, not to mention that she doesn't seem to get sick. Her wounds also tend to heal faster but that's not to say she can survive bullets, just that she'll recover faster than the average person.
      • Clairvoyance - Easily both the best and worst of the Agimat's gifts due to Mayumi's personality, on occassion Mayumi is hit by very vague flashes and visions of possible futures. (When and what will be at the discretion of the GM). Additionally, she sometimes get feelings of "I have to do this" or "I have to go there" also at random. Finally, she can also gain flashes of another person's past or possible future by touching them. Again, it happens completely at random as far as she can tell.
      • Agimat's bond: She just can't get rid of the thing. When the Agimat is seperated from Mayumi's person, it always finds a way to come back.
    • Rebel Experience: As an active participant in both the Philippine Revolution and the Fil-American war, Mayumi's a greatly experienced soldier and survivor. She's no leader but Mayi knows how to fight and follow orders. She's good with firearms, the itak and saber. She's also trained in first aid.
    • Fortunetelling: Tarot, Crystal Balls, Palm-reading...Hey, she got bored.
  • Personality: Anyone who knows Mayumi would all say the same thing: the woman can never leave well enough alone. Meddlesome to a fault, Mayumi will try to help anyone and everyone she meets with their problems. Overly affectionate and loud, she's like that one embarassing aunt. Kindhearted, but her years of experience has made her shockingly ruthless when she needs to be as well. Determined to do some good in the world, she's a stubborn old lady who never takes no for an answer. Foul-mouthed as all hell.
  • Back Story: Born in the province of Cavite in the Philippines in the year 1873, young Mayumi was the granddaughter of her small village's local albularyo (folk healer). An orphan, her grandfather was all she had, but the old man was a proud sort that spoke against the Spaniards whenever he could. That did not end well for him, and when Mayumi was fourteen years old, her grandfather was arrested. Before he was taken away, the old man told the girl to head to the nearby forest and look for a certain balete tree. She did and found an odd amulet hanging from the branches.
    • From then on, the Agimat was Mayumi's, and with its gifts the girl managed to survive alone in the tumultous country. Mayumi eventually joined the Katipunan (Philippine Revolutionaries) and went on to rebel against both Spain and the United States. As the years passed, and the revolution ended, Mayumi wandered.
    • She eventually ended up in America, making a living in New Orleans as a fotuneteller under the name Maharlika. And then one day, she had one of her flashes - a terrible omen of incoming calamity. Mayumi knew she had to stop it and the fortuneteller eventually crossed paths with a certain project....

Name: Sir Felix Adderson Culper, 13th Earl of Arkhamshire/”Harrier”

Age: 32

Gender: Male

Nationality: British (half Irish, but that’s a “scandalous” secret)

Description: A short, stocky man with a deep tan, short-cut reddish hair, broken nose, muttonchop whiskers and bright green eyes. Felixs' smile is large and bright, with an almost infectious charm…or a chillingly excited glee. Usually dressed in very stylish and expensive clothes (I’m still working on what, if any, outfit he should wear in the field.)

Occupation: Soldier/scout

Skills and Equipment: Culper always has had a taste for new skills and zest for activity, and it shows. His years of playing polo, swimming, climbing and other sports have left him in great physical shape, while his hunting and commando training have taught him a great deal about outdoor survival and patience. Felix is an expert shot with both pistol and rifle, as well as a very skilled boxer, swordsman and equestrian.

He usually carries: A Winchester Model 1895 chambered for .405

A Colt Single Action Army

A pair of brass knuckles

Two pocket pistols

A bowie knife made from Damascus steel

A heavy cavalry saber

Personality: Culper is a man of two parts: on the one he’s deeply, fully and to the bone believes that it is the duty of the nobility to help and take care of the “lesser classes.” In his case, that means putting an end to this “boorish” Hitler fellow so that the world can get back to normal. However, he will also fully admit that he just likes a good hunt, fight or “bit of mischief.” Folks who are preying on the weak are “rotters” and must be “taught a lesson.”

He will likely refer to you as “old chap” or somesuch regardless of age, gender, or anything else and has an almost pathological cheerfulness regardless of the circumstances. “A Culper never gives up, old bean!” Many consider him an idiot, and in many ways he is one, or at least very childlike. For example, he has a beloved horse named Mint whom he talks to regularly, and he often tells himself jokes and laughs at them.

On the other and when he’s having fun, Felix is a single-minded hunter who will stop at nothing to achieve his objective, fight dirty, and be willing to attack overwhelming odds to succeed. He who dares, wins! That smile never really goes away, and it can be disconcerting when he has a sword at your throat.

Back Story: The Culpers have had a long and colorful history. Their ancestry is filled with knights, heroes, priests, merchants, bastards, pirates, madmen and at least one possible magician. It’s entirely plausible that the current Earl of Arkhamshire is related to both himself, the Queen, and any other famous person you could name. All that notoriety, however, comes from a single source: an inability to stay still. They must be up and about! This can involve fighting, exploring, drinking, creating new and unacknowledged branches on the family tree, or just causing scandals.

Felix is little different. At the age of 15 he brained his tennis instructor for “unpleasant conduct” involving a female acquaintance. At seventeen the future Earl was awarded the county’s unofficial bare-knuckle boxing trophy after taking on all comers. Year twenty found him leaving Cambridge under a cloud of scandal involving the destruction of a rare painting, the death of a professor of Philosophy and the disappearance of several of his classmates (the true story here has all been filed under REDACTED and can be read by contacting REDACTED). Afterwards Felix set off on a worldwide big game hunt, though curiously few of the animals he allegedly shot made it home and his assistants were all sworn to secrecy or accepted new jobs on his estate.

So, when the possibility of a war rolled around, he was keenly interested. Lord Culper signed up for British commando training, but the army was unsurprisingly hesitant to take him. It was seen as a joke to keep up the morale of the troops, and indeed many pictures and film were taken of him with his consent making pratfalls in order to amuse the people.

However, he actually did uncannily well, acing most of the tests and breaking through the class barriers to charm most of his fellow cadets – these results were concealed both to keep morale high (“Why isn’t he fighting if he’s so good?”) and on the orders of the Government to preserve the status quo. When he realized that his social standing virtually guaranteed he would not be sent overseas, the Earl searched about for another way to channel his restless energy toward the war effort.

Other:"This looks like jolly fun! A bit of fire and blood gets the heart pumping, eh old chap?"

• Name: Adrian Mc Hale

• Age: 23

• Gender: Male

• Nationality: Irish (British Enlisted)

• Description: A fair good looking young man. Fair features, and a well toned body standing at 5’ 10”. He sports a head of shoulder length dark red hair, usually tied back into a low hanging ponytail with a strip of leather, and deep crystal blue eyes. Usually wears a long coat hanging off the shoulders and a falconer’s glove.

• Occupation: Demolition, Sniper, Infiltration

• Skills and Equipment:

o Sharpshooter: Adrian is a genius with a rifle. Even more so with big rifles. The man manages to make precision even with his prized anti-tank rifle.

o Falconry: Another particular expertise of Adrian’s, having bonded with his feathery friend for a long time. In particular, Adrian is proficient in calling his falcon for coordinated close range combat, scouting, spotting, and one other thing.

o Close Combat: Mildly trained in close combat as backup plan.

o Modified Boys Anti-Tank Rifle

o

o Grenades

o Combat Knives

o Modified Falconer’s Glove: Modified in a way to make shooting easier while wearing it

o Hermes: A Peregrine Falcon that has been Adrian’s partner since before the war even broke out. Well trained and well attuned to Adrian’s feelings, Hermes has a flair for performance and an intense loyalty.

o Trinket: A pair of matching relics passed down to Adrian from his mother, decorated with celtic patterns. Hermes has one, while Adrian keeps the other close to his heart. As long as both wear it, Adrian can warp to wherever Hermes is at that exact moment, even mid flight.

• Personality: A performer and soldier, Adrian is an energetic individual, but a determined one. He puts his all into the task at hand, and some times focuses to the point of emotionless, but he never loses the flare of showing off with Hermes. Speaking of, if any one ever hurts Hermes, he will show no hesitation returning the favor.

• Back Story: A performer and sharp shooter, Adrian made his living doing Falconry shows with Hermes, performing fantastical tricks with Falconry, trick shots, and even controlled explosions. However, the world darkened as the Nazi regime reared its ugly head, and Adrian, unable to stand idly by like the Republic of Ireland itself in its position of Neutrality, left his home country to enlist with the British Army. Through some choice events, he eventually found a distinct fondness for using anti-tank rifles, even for dealing with things not so tank-like, and gained a proficiency like no other, while he also learned how to most effectively use Hermes for scouting missions and training as a military asset. It wasn’t until he was truly in danger however, that he found out the greatest asset of all of his and Hermes teamwork. While Hermes was returning to the base during an operation, Adrian was setting charges on a German outpost when he was discovered due to a lapse in judgement. As gun barrels leveled towards him, he clutched his trinket in prayer and goodbye, and found himself back at the base where Hermes was, safe and remarkably not full of bullet holes. A few more experiments, and Adrian had found out the true power residing within the trinket, and started to make use of it out on the front lines, eventually making a name for himself… As well as drawing the attention of key players.

• Other: Adrian Mc Hale and Hermes reporting for duty. I assure you, we’ll give you and those Nazi bastards one hell of a show.
