Maou Tamer Irene is all set up to wreck that annoying heroine. Should be good. What is wrong with that girl anyway?

According to some spoilers which I'm not sure are accurate or not...

The heroine is also someone who was reborn into the game. Unlike Irene, who has readily accepted that this world is a real one, the "heroine" has taken up a rather solipsistic worldview. She thinks everything is just the game, and that she and Irene are the only "real" people in it. She's acting like this because she wants to "beat" Irene.

It's always annoying when the writer takes that angle for writing the heroine.

In any case, I like how Irene literally has memories of a past life, but is still Irene. Another thing I don't really like about the genre is when the villainess isn't the villainess but literally an entirely different person. That's what makes Vio one of my favorite villainesses, incidentally, because not only is she the villainess, she actually did do a bunch of bad shit and is being given a second chance. It also makes the actions of the characters around her more understandable.

So has anyone read Handyman Saitou In Another World? It's basically fantasy gag manga, with some of the humor occasionlly coming from Saitou being from the regular world.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet Unless I grew it. In that case, throw it in the trash.

That reminds me of Mochiron, Isharyōseikyū Itashimasu! or Of course, I'll claim Palimony!

It's not actually an isekai, but it hits all of the beats of this sort of "otome game parody" novel.

The twist is that the otome novel is an in-universe novel series that the protagonist, a business-minded individual, is publishing and selling. And because the writer of the series is employing Write Who You Know and has prophetic powers that influence destiny, the novel's characters are all based on actual people.

The "heroine" in this case is simply a delusional chuuni who is trying to win the Prince by following the novel's plots. Since part of the plot has her stealing the "villainess'" fiancee (who is not the prince — he's just a stupid jerkass whom the protagonist is marrying solely because his title will make future business dealings easier) and said "villainess" is based on the protagonist...

Yeah, I read that one too. Yulias is an entertaining character and the story wasn't bad, but 'not bad' is about the most I can say about it. There's never a feeling of vulnerability or that things aren't under control. That kind of story has its own kind of appeal, of course, so I'd probably still give it a 7-8/10. I've seen villainess stories that took that angle way too far though, like Fioria or Cardinal.

Hm. I identify most of these stories by the villainess' name rather than the actual title.

It's definitely not the most serious or dramatic series out there.

She reminds me of Mary Albrecht in that the 'villainess' was never actually evil at all. I like Mary 'cause her attempts to be the villainess just makes her look like a huge tsundere.

Incidentally, I also like how Irene is a genuinely annoying person, not just some poor bullied saint. She's a good person, but also really irritating and smug. Cedric just couldn't see through to the actual kind person below the surface nor notice her actual human vulnerabilities.

So for Slow Prison Life, Prince so gonna fall for "new" Rachel doesn't he? Sure he hates her with passion, but we know how Keima diagram works, right?

As for heroine... I like her. It will be superfun see how all her plans will fall apart (Possibly without Rachel even remembering her name)

If he does, his feelings won't be reciprocated.

Ascendance of a Bookworm project is ded.

[up][up][up]There's also An Observation Record of my Fiancée - A Self-Proclaimed Villainess (which I think you mentioned before). Bertia tries so hard to be a villainess, but she's just so bad at it.

[up][up] I certainly doubt she will come to reprocate potential romantic feelings myself. Though that was beside point.

As for bookworm, I do not think there is problem we just have to wait few years to possibly inferior official translation to catch up. And honestly if Mismarca is it's replacement I am more then fine with it.

^^ I was seriously hoping that after the heroine got exiled that Bertia would be all alone in a room, give a smug smile and go all 'keikaku doori' on the audience. Alas, it was not to be.

^ Yeah, I suppose. Bookworm is such a ridiculously long story that it would have taken forever to get it all anyway.

[up]Keep in mind that the entire series is actually told from the Prince's POV. He's the protagonist, not Bertia.

So what you're saying is that there will be a special bonus chapter at the end where she does that ??

Eh...no.

I'm saying that even if she was secretly some schemer, we'd never know unless the Prince discovered her secretly gloating or something.

The last Extra chapter (not fully translated yet) is instead about Bertia and the Prince being parents.

The first kid turns out to be an emotionally-detached genius like the Prince. Said boy quickly latches on to his mother and designates his father his rival in an Oedipus Complex like fashion. The kid also quickly figures out how to adopt the Mask of Sanity of a Cheerful Child to make his mother like him more. He also becomes very jealous when Bertia becomes pregnant again and manipulates Bertia into situations where she over-exerts herself to see if she loves him more than his unborn sibling.

If this were a more serious series, this would turn out pretty badly. But I'm pretty sure it will all turn out okay.

Mhm, I've been reading it too, I know what's happening. Speaking seriously, I would really rather have seen something from Heronia's POV.

[up]Yeah, the Prince is pretty worried about how to rein the kid in. Not helped by the fact that the kid is also a genius — he manages to somehow cultivate a new breed of plant with an impossible color at age 5 just so he can show off the new plant to his mother.

And his mother Bertia is completely oblivious to her son's true nature because he is very good at acting like a Cheerful Child in front of her.

Yeah, he's also partly to blame for this since he's also "competing" with his son. That bit where he immediately pulls Bertia on to his lap to hug her while his son is trying to hug Bertia was kind of a dick move. And of course Bertia has no idea what's going on and just thinks they are a really close and happy family.

Don't even mean that, I mean he has a pretty wide possessive/yandere streak that Bertia has never and likely will never notice. Like pretending to be respecting her free will while secretly being willing to basically lock her up in the castle if she doesn't want to be with him.
