Most of the online video reviewers I have watched don't seem to know about the T.S. Eliot poems that are the basis for the musical.
Those cockroach people are mildly disappointing to me. I was expecting some kind of Eraserhead-style horror, like realistic cockroaches with human faces.
So, I enjoyed the movie. With a group of friends and the right mindset it's a fun, campy ride. Mostly
I found it could mostly be broken into three modes:
- Weird and semi-functional— A lot of the early film and most of the emotional beats don't seem to be quite certain what it's going for, but are at least fairly good music. This is where having a group of friends to laugh with is essential
- Entertaining high camp— Skimbleshanks, Macavity, and some of the others are just legitimately good song and dance good numbers
- The close-up zone— There's several songs shot almost entirely in close up and it's always deeply boring

Apparently the Rebel Wilson Cat takes off her fur, to reveal a tap dancing outfit, with fur underneath.

Good lord they actually thought this could have gotten an Oscar?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Well if you throw enough money at a movie it will win something
New theme music also a boxLook at all the phoned in content that's around. People are dumb, and sometimes have inflated egos.
Wake me up at your own risk.Cats, with unfinished CGI, was initially on the Oscars's shortlist for Best Visual Effects without Detective Pikachu, Godzilla King of the Monsters, or Spider-Man: Far From Home.
The VFX shortlist also includes Gemini Man.

As if last year didn't drive home the point that the Oscars don't have a clue anymore hard enough...
I mean, Spider-Verse did win best animated last year.

It seemed like a contender on paper to the executives, but after that trailer, the dismal opening box office, and the reviews mocking it...I guess they saw the writing on the wall.
Disgusted, but not surprisedRebel Wilson's character taking off her outer fur to reveal another outfit is a call back to the stage show where the character first appears in a large round costume waddles around on stage then sheds it to start the dance number.
It works in the stage show because...its obvious these are costumes and the outer 'fur' does look more like a coat then actual skin it failboats and looks creepy in the film since both costumes look like her actual skin/fur.
For anyone curious as to how this compares to the stage show, the Cats You Tube channel had the entire video version of the stage show uploaded onto their channel.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI was wondering if the Pitch Meeting thumbnail would make the cats more terrifying. Yep, that'll do it.
It's been 3000 years…Man I think that one’s his best work yet.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."That video thumbnail is horrifying. Take it off. NOW.

I'm sorry, I'll just provide you with the link instead.
Relax, I was joking.
I don’t know which is scarier, the roaches or Rebel Wilson.
