I think it's less Nintendo and more that Sakurai has been working on Smash games since 2012.
I mean they obviously could just let sakurai take a break if they make more DLC for the game. Sakurai has a team he works with, he's not just alone. Hopefully at worst he can just let his team handle the rest like he did with balancing.
Warrior to the very end! My tumblr, dood!I think Sakurai can't accept Smash being done without him so that's why he rarely ever isn't involved with the game.
Uni catI mean Nintendo will keep the series going for as long as it makes money so he's going to have to step away eventually.
This song needs more love. The year is 21XX. Robo-Sakurai Mk. LXIV releases the Courier DLC for Super Smash Bros. Slapfest on the Super Nintendo SwitchCube. Also included with the DLC is a Fatality Theater where players can practice Fatalities on Waluigi.
The more I think about it, the more I really think Quote would be perfect for DLC.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. What's this I'm hearing about Erdrick for Smash getting confused for Dai in Jump Force?
Wow, never thought about this. Maybe the alleged leakers (probably from Square) heard about a DQ character being in a fighting game and assumed it was for Smash.
If that's the case, then maybe DQ isn't as guaranteed as most think
Uni catSounds like some tin foil hat stuff.
This song needs more love.Honestly its tin foil hat saying that brave is a DQ rep tbh. Nobody's gotten any so called "leak" for smash DLC right so assuming just because somebody said so is a bad idea. Waiting until official confirmation is going to just ramp up speculation until we get actual evidence or even more from datamining.

Warrior to the very end! My tumblr, dood!I mean, if people first saw "Jack" in the datamine, they would assume it was someone like Jack Frost and not Joker.
2 Brave.
Makes sense.
Uni catTrue but I personally think there are other reasons to think a Dragon Quest character might be Brave beyond just leakers.
But it is just speculation.

This song needs more love.Such as?
Mostly how mistranslating "Yuusha" to "Brave" is apparently very easy if you're not familiar with both languages but also simply how Dragon Quest in Smash is a matter of "when" and not "if".

This song needs more love.In what regard? It's not like the West cares for it in the slightest.
And it's not like Square Enix had any interest in participating in Ultimate.
Dragon Quest is the biggest RPG series in Japan and it's not even close, it has a long history with Nintendo, and it's getting a new release on the Switch.
If there is any franchise where Nintendo will go "screw the West", it's Dragon Quest.
It might not be in this game. But Smash will continue and it will happen eventually.

This song needs more love.Dragon Quest does make sense in that point of view.
And when you come to think of it, the big three JRPG companies back in the day was Square (Final Fantasy), Enix (Dragon Quest), and Nihon Falcom (Ys).

Dragon Quest is a pretty obvious choice, especially with the datamine mentioning the name "Brave"
my only hold up is that Square Enix clearly didn't care that much about putting Cloud in Smash, and I have little reason to believe that DQ would be any different
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-Maex5 I mean, the thing is the West doesn't have to care; Nintendo, and particularly Smash, clearly have more of a focus on Japan and Japanese Titles (the only Western Characters come from a Franchise that started in Japan). And Dragon Quest is huge in Japan. Fire Emblem used to only be big in Japan, didn't stop Marth and Roy from being added to Melee (although it almost stopped them from coming to the US).

There hasn't been a single Japan-focused addition to the roster since Melee's inclusion of Marth and Roy who, as you state, were going to be cut from the Western release. Since then characters have only been in due to global appeal or, in Ridley's case, Western appeal. I don't think Nintendo even has popular franchises that are only relevant in Japan anymore.
Also I legit don't think Japan actually wants Dragon Quest in Smash since none of those fan polls I've seen from them ever include Slime or Erdrick.
With the idea of Sakurai and Nintendo putting in the biggest, most popular video game franchises in Japan into Ultimate, I wonder if a Nihon Falcom character has a chance. If I recall, Falcom games are pretty big in Japan (maybe not to the extent of Square-Enix or Atlus).
Part of me wonders whether there is more to Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana being ported to Switch than meets the eye.

Maybe, but Dragon Quest is just that big. Also it's not like the Marth and Roy situation as Dragon Quest is at least a perfectly well-known franchise in the West.
Estelle Bright is my number one most-wanted character overall. I would honestly probably cry if she got in.
Adol would be cool too but less because of him and more because of the music he'd bring.

This song needs more love.
With the Nintendo president wanting more DLC for games, Smash being a major series and Ultimate selling like crazy, I would be legitimately shocked if Ultimate DLC ended after character #6, especially since it would be fewer DLC characters than Smash 4. Now, would that mean a season 2 or just echoes or some combination is up in the air, but ending Feb 2020 with 'And here is the 5th and final fighter pass character. Now we will never acknowledge Ultimate ever again.' just looks insane.
