Opened this. I agree that this page is not an appropriate target for this redirect (Political Correctness also shouldn't point here but that's a different discussion).
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWhat about redirecting this to Have a Gay Old Time? Part of its description actually covers the euphemism treadmill.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Agreed.
Though some examples of Have a Gay Old Time are also Euphemism Treadmill material, I dont think this qualifies for a redirect which implies the terms can be used synonymously.
Euphemism Treadmill only has one wick and 140 inbounds.
Why not just cut it, since we're basically not using it?

The edit reason makes it clear that this was a rogue redirect originating from TLP. I'm not sure (need to check timestamps) but it may have been connected to the proposed Euphemism Fail...
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyWouldnt Euphemism Treadmill basically mean a chain of Euphemisms in a row?
No, it's an existing term in linguistics.
Yep, which is actually why I put the Useful Note option in the list of original suggestions—there's a pretty accurate description of it under real life examples on the page for The Scottish Trope which makes sense since the euphemism treadmill is what happens when that trope meets Have a Gay Old Time.
Sometimes when it gets brought up it also has a link pointing to Wikipedia; see Kotobagari for an example of that.
I say either cut it or make it a redirect to Have a Gay Old Time, which defines the phrase even if they aren't quite the same.
I'd go more with having it redirect to Have a Gay Old Time than delete it, if those are the options. I don't think it'd stay deleted, and I'm not sure it's wise to bet that tropers will get more aware of its existence and effects. I've run across some works old enough that yes, it does require you be aware that certain words weren't ethnic slurs at the time it was written—so it's not racist, just...rather unfortunate in wording, now.
Clock is ticking.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanGiven that Having a Gay Old Time does discuss the actual phenomenon, I agree with that being the more appropriate redirect.
Closing as stale.

Currently it's a redirect to Political Correctness Gone Mad which doesn't describe it and besides that isn't even what the euphemism treadmill is—the euphemism treadmill is the process by which a euphemism meant to replace a taboo word takes on the same taboo connotations, requiring a new euphemism to replace it.
It doesn't necessarily overlap with political correctness, since it can apply to anything which might get a euphemism, such as disease or death.
I suspect that it'd work best as a Useful Note which covers what it is, since it isn't a trope in and of itself. If it stays a redirect, The Scottish Trope would likely be a better choice.
