Well to be fair, Zoe was kinda shy and it was established before that she didn't take part in the nightly patrol. I'd imagine Undine stepping up for her, Undine fighting and especially that thing with Undine, HP and Zoe's cousin, must have inspired her to push herself. Her powers are also really combat ones, so it's not like she could have practiced in her free time.

Ah, so she wasn't aware of that yet. Makes sense. Also, it makes it clear for us that Magical Girl powers are not instinctive.
By the way, I went back to that comic where there was a Magical Girl snooping on Undine and HP's training... and that is not Zoe. We have a rogue, orange-ish Magical Girl in this comic.
Cassidy is pretty orange.
Isn't she training at the same time as they are?
Yeah, but depending on what kind of training there could be an opportunity to sneak away for a moment (tracking hide & seek as an offhand for instance)
I have to say, I thought Mary might actually kill Rue; I don't for a second think she's going to kill Zoe. (At least not tonight.)
My posts make considerably more sense read in the voice of John Ratzenberger. If you mean to say Zoe being this good in helping Rue doesn't mesh with her being a Shrinking Violet... I'd say it's mostly instinct at this point, as in "I have a ranged weapon in my hand so might as well attack what's attacking me/someone else." Why it hits is where her powers come in.
Nah, I was just making fun for a bit. I found it funny that the events all worked together so well for her, with the flower weighing the tooth monster just enough for it to fall, and the other one apparently being right underneath it. The convenience of it made me chuckle.
Ah ok. As for the flowers, I took it as "the flower is tearing the monster apart from the inside so it's dying and can't hold itself up/fly/whatever" :D
Yeah, being eaten from the inside by metal roots sounds like a very nasty death.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."That's what I'm imagining as well. Although given their apparent weight and color, I'm starting to think they're some kind of metal.
I'm imagining she's pulling up her mask/collar to hide that she's grinning like a manic after that skeeball kill.
For some reason what I thought of is "what if pulling up her mask activates some sort of invisible barrier defending her from the blast"
I think she's making sure that the gunk that'll be flying around won't end up in or around her mouth.
Seeing that she's also turning away from wormy in the last panel, I do get the impression she's shielding her face from the upcoming blast.
Maybe her Magical Girl title will end up being Silver Thumb?
Gosh, she'd look really cool in motion.
Now comic: Snacking
I wonder now if the reason Zoe stepped in and fought was mostly because this occurred outside her home. That doesn't look like a hospital room or anything, at least.

I am definitely angling towards Undine putting together a team of non-thematic Magical Girls.
My first thought was that Zoe had taken her home because the hospital didn't know where to send her, but if she hadn't woken up in the interim she'd probably still be there.

New comic: http://www.sleeplessdomain.com/comic/chapter-13-page-14
Zoe is realizing that the midst of combat isn't the best place to be learning exactly how her powers work.
