Cafeteria

Sam walked in without making much noise. With some luck, he'll get some peace before the day starts.quickly picking up a tray as quietly as possible, before trying to find a seat by himself once again.

Taking a deep breath, he started searching for a table. In all honesty, he didn't feel like speaking to people right now.

But, why do I feel He started thinking That it will be inevitable?

Cafeteria: Look out. She's here.

Ever briskly walked into the cafeteria nearly knocking over Sam. Uttering a quick apology she was off to the food line to avoid undue attention. As Ever waited she searched the crowd for Lucy. Found her. Getting only a near raw slab of meat, she carried her tray over to Lucy and plopped down next to her.

"Lucy. We need to tal-" Ever stopped as she noticed Hei, and continued in a more quiet tone. "Lucy, we need to talk about that picture you have on your nightstand. Why do you have him in a maid costume framed and poised next to your bed?" Ever gestured towards Hei. "Loo- Look, I'm sure he's a nice guy and all, but you just met yesterday. I think of you as a friend and I have the right to be concerned here. You're going a bit fast."

Cafeteria

If there was one word to describe Lucy's expression, it was most certainly 'mortified'. Getting up, she sent a numb "J-Just a moment" to Hei before quickly dragging Ever by the arm towards the edge of the cafeteria, away from prying ears.

Taking a deep breath, she managed to look her in the eye. "T-There's a... p-picture...?"

Without even waiting for a confirmation, she groaned, covering her face with her hands. "E-Ever, it's not like that. It w-was..." she paused, unable to put the situation into words, before giving up and gesturing to Matten.

"Make sense now?" she asked rhetorically. "She's the one who d-dressed him up," she explained, sending a spiteful glare towards the daeva. "I c-can't believe she actually went and put a p-picture of it on the dresser..." she rambled, looking both irritated and incredibly embarrassed at the same time.

Truthfully, she could believe it. Which only made it worse.

Cafeteria

Ever narrowed her eyes as she followed Lucy's gesture. Presumably, Lucy was talking about Matten, not Rebecca. "Mmhmm. Sense. You watched her dress him up did you?" She sighed and crossed her arms. "Maybe I should go have a 'chat' with Hei and Matten about what is and is not appropriate."

Cafeteria

"No!" she hissed, smacking her forehead with the heel of her hand. "L-Let me explain. H-Hei took me back to the dorms to g-get me something for my headache. M-Matten popped in and took him away for a while, t-then came back telling me to go to Mike and Liam's room. W-When I got there, he was already in the dress," she clarified, face sporting a furious blush at the memory despite her agitation. "I g-guess she had got him to try and c-clean the room in her... own way. I only stuck a-around to help him, it seemed like he hadn't c-cleaned anything in his life."

Panting slightly from her tirade, she ran her fingers through her hair. "D-do you get it now?"

Ever nodded, "Yeah I get it. Alright. Sorry to bother you, Luce."

Ever was still gonna have that chat with Hei later. Their stories better match, or Ever would have words with each. The medicine Hei had gotten for Lucy had better have just been for headaches. She pretended to make for the table before stopping herself.

Ever turned back to Lucy. "If something more or something bad does happen, you know you can talk to me right?"

Cafeteria

Lucy made to nod, but something about Ever's all too dismissive and sudden acceptance of her explanation set her off. Her eyes seemed to snap at Ever's words, and her expression turned stony.

She doesn't believe me.

"I didn't think you thought so little of me, Ever," she stated in a quiet monotone, before walking stiffly back to her table, overtaking her roommate.

"S-sorry about that, Hei. J-just needed to clear s-some things up," she apologized, her stammer returning.

Cafeteria

"Oh, my, Captain. I would have carried you to your seat somehow." Matten had already laid out the tablecloth and candle and what was left of her meal when Rebecca had moved to a seat. The black dog had dropped out of her bag before disappearing. Matten's more humanoid phantasm saluted before disappearing all the same.

Of course then Captain Pollutrix began spouting off half-finished questions. Great, the kings always get on me when I don't answer there drunken ramblings. She can't still have a hangover from last night?

"Of course," Matten bowed about to just overlook them before standing erect and beginning to count off by her fingers. "I planned ahead and gathered some things I'd need to lift you without burning you and your books and person away. This is a most becoming entrance for a hero. I just regret that I could not get a white horse for you. You just entered the cafeteria, but you rushed off your seat so quickly you must have fallen. I'm aware of what you said, but so many VIPs say 'don't treat me special' and then get pissy when you don't. And you said, 'why would' already. I assume 'why' is redundant?"

"Anyway," Matten curtsied before about facing. "Treat your followers nicely. They're my classmates too. I won't stay here and overshadow you. I can already feel people staring, and my beauty is a natural focal point. If you need me, I shall return so. I'm trying to get more time in the training room before homeroom. I think I can conjure up a dozen or so playmates. Sobh bexeyr, my captain."

Catching Lucy's gesture, Matten waved her hand at the girl before leaving. She winked at Hei Lin as she passed before sailing out of the cafeteria.

After sending off Navi, Rosalinda headed back to the cafeteria.

Cafeteria

Hei gave a tired smile at Lucy's support. "J-just a little embarrassed, made it hard t-to sleep...I'll survive." He replied, taking her hand in his. "And thank you for helping m-me clean last night...I couldn't have done it with out y-you."

Hearing Rebecca's confusion, Hei gave her a look of sympathy. "It's Matten. Sometimes it's best t-to just go with what she h-has in mind."

Then Ever marched over to his table, looking none to cheery...and for good reason, as a increasingly mortified Hei read the words photo, maid outfit and desk from her lips. "Fuuucckk..." He cursed under his breath, head buried under his arms. Why was there a photo of him in that outfit in the first place!?

Hei remained in that position until Lucy returned looking oddly tense, which he thought was strange, considering they were last talking about him. "I see...Did something h-happen in your talk with Ever? I head her mention a photo..." He asked in concern.

Cafeteria

Lucy's blush returned with a vengeance, and she began intricately studying the table's material.

"U-Um... I er..." she mumbled, racking her brain for some lie, before giving up. He was her friend after all.

"I-I think Matten snuck a p-picture of you i-in... -cough-thedress-cough- next to my bed while I w-was gone... I didn't notice t-this morning, I w-was too groggy," she said truthfully whilst nervously pulling at her hair. "I-I'll make s-sure to g-get rid of it when I c-can though, s-so don't worry," she added hastily.

Telling him this seemed to relax her somewhat, and she gave him a small smile, which soon erupted into a quiet giggle fit as she realised how ridiculous the whole situation was.

"I-It's k-kinda f-funny now, thinking b-back on it," she admitted.

Seeing Lucy cheer up like this made Hei relax, and a smile crept onto his face without him realizing. “I g-guess it kinda is.” He agreed. Now that he was thinking clearly the maid outfit didn’t seem as big of a deal as he first thought.

“Thanks Lucy, I feel a l-lot better now.”

Cafeteria

Lucy managed to break out of her giggle fit to return his smile, although this time as a wide grin. It was perhaps the first full smile she had shown during her entire time here, without a hint of doubt shown in it.

"Y-You're welcome, H-Hei," she replied. "I'm... I'm glad t-to be your friend..." she hesitantly added, a light blush on her face. She immediately mentally kicked herself for that.

You just made it awkward again. You can't just say things like that, it might come across like you like him-

Her mental processes screamed to a halt, skidding off of the proverbial rails and smashing into the side of the tunnel, causing hundreds of innocent deaths and creating thousands of dollars in collateral damage.

I-I like him...?

She hadn't really thought about that possibility before, and if her thoughts had ever drifted there they have to had been vehemently beaten down out of denial. It certainly explained a lot...

Cheeks burning, her confidence drifted back down to where it was before, and she lifted up her hood again, staring down blankly at her forgotten food tray.

Liam made his entrance into the cafeteria, smiling and waving at everyone to let them know that he was not still in a down mood from yesterday. He fetched some food and took a seat - he still had not yet seen Mike, and was kind of worried about him considering how far he had transformed.

The thought Mike had been stuck like that was one he didn't like to think of.

Cafeteria

As Lucy and Hei shared a moment, neither knew that someone else was sharing in it. Or at least observing it. He stood in a dark corner at the edge of the cafeteria; a scrawny teen wearing all black. On the surface, he was happy as could be, smiling without a care in the world. But only the slightest twitch betrayed the fact that he was absolutely livid.

In any case, he decided he might as well make his move. He grabbed a tray of food and walked over to Lucy and Hei's table. He didn't appear the slightest out of place. As far as anyone else was concerned, he might as well have just been an average highschooler. Or as average as one could be in SA. Though it couldn't have been farther from the truth.

"Hey there! I was looking for a place to sit, but there don't seem to be too many seats open. Mind if I join you guys?"

Cafeteria

Getting a tray of food, and debating whether to empower a plastic knife and throw it at Matten (alas, despite her ridiculous entrance the daeva hadn't done anything worth stabbing. Yet.), Mikael sat down across from Liam, smiling at the other boy.

"Guten Morgen, Liam." He took a bite of sausage, swallowed, then, still looking down at his tray, murmured softly, "Are you still interested in destroying that watery dimension? Because I am, and I believe I could use your help in this endeavor."

His plan had changed since last night, of course, now that he knew the true scope of their enemy - the toxins Rebecca produced, however noxious, were likely not enough to destroy an entire world of water on their own - and yet, in learning the truth, another avenue had opened.

If all went as planned, he would visit the 13th Door.

Cafeteria

Hei looked startled by the sudden arrival of a stranger, but managed to answer politely. “S-sure, there’s room.”

Privately, there was something about the newcomer that put him on guard. Maybe it was the the smile that didn’t feel natural, like he was hiding something. Or maybe it was the fact that his shadow felt...foreign to him.

Despite his thoughts, Hei decided to be friendly, not wanting to act on gut feelings alone.

Lucy snapped out of her thoughts (which were slowly drifting into lecherous territories) at the arrival of the new kid, giving him a hesitant nod as he sat down.

"O-Oh. H-hi..."

Like Hei, she was on guard. She hadn't heard anything about a new student, plus he just overall seemed... off.

Suddenly, something spiked in her subconscious.

She flinched, rubbing her eye briefly, before refocusing on the new kid.

"S-So... W-What's y-your name? I-I'm Lucy..." she introduced tentatively.

Cafeteria

"Thanks!" The stranger sat down, making himself comfortable. "I'm Elim. So, had your first day of school, huh? Let me tell ya, it's tough on your first day, but you'll get used to it. Anyway, Lucy is it?" Suddenly, something began to shift. It was subtle at first, but it was there. It was almost as if a slight pressure could be felt at the table. Nothing too noticeable and nothing damning, but it was there nonetheless. In any case, Elim simply leaned forward ever so slightly and said, "Or should I call you Ms.Livingston?"

Lucy froze up, looking at the boy nervously.

Despite her trying to reassure herself, the tense atmosphere made her break out into a cold sweat.

"H-How..." she stammered. "H-How do you know m-my name?"

Day 2 - Cafeteria:

Alexa arrived at the cafeteria, waving at those who were present. Automaton observed the place to choose whom to sit with. Hei, Lin and the person she did not know were already deep into conversation, so that table was out of options. Rebecca, for the sheer fact that she was Rebecca, was already not an option. She did not want to interrupt Mike and Liam's conversation. So that left...

Sam, who looked like an epitome of a "cool loner" stereotype. While her superego was telling her to not interrupt his moment of solitude, her id insisted on otherwise just for sheer laughs. After all, she needed it.

She got food and sat in front of Sam. "Hi!" she said cheerfully, fully expecting for him to get annoyed.

Cafeteria

"''I know all there is to know about you, Lucy. And everyone else. Ain't that right, Hei? But you most of all. Remember a few years back, when you protected David from those bullies? You don't, do you? Not really. But I know. I know everything." His lips started to curl up to the corners of his face, and his eyes began to turn a dark obsidian. "And I know you're just as much of a monster as me."

Cafeteria

Lucy was starting to hyperventilate, her eyes glazing over with fright as she stumbled out of her chair, slowly backing away from Elim.

"N-No..." she whispered.

It's not your fault...

"I d-didn't protect him... I w-was t-too weak to... to even try..." she denied. "Y-You're lying! I d-didn't do a-anything! T-They knocked me out!" she shouted desperately, not even bothering to hide her fear.

Something was hammering in her mind, something vile, screaming disgusting, incomprehensibly awful things. She clutched her head, too ashamed to even look at Hei.

"S-Stop... j-just stop..." she sobbed, sinking down onto her knees.

Rosalinda grabbed some bread, butter, and coffee. She found an empty seat and sat down, unaware that Lucy was having a seizure somewhere in the same room, thanks to space being warped and time being bendable.

The Cafeteria

"Oh, I ain't the one that's lying," said Elim. "They are. The Doctors. Your therapist. Even the whole damn staff! Everyone knew, but they didn't tell you the truth. Well, I am. And you wanna know why?" Suddenly, an aura of pure, pitch-black darkness began to emanate from Emil. It was like smoke, rising and shifting and turning. It came from his mouth, his eyes, everywhere. And he reveled in it. "Cause where it counts, we're the same."
